Motley Monday Check in and Mooselaneous Musings

 photo funny-pictures-snow-kitten.jpg

Good morning Motley Meese! Hope your weekend was lovely. We had snow all day yesterday followed by ice overnight. Accidents and interstate closures galore. Supposed to warm up this afternoon – meanwhile, I’ll stay right here, thankyouverymuch.

PLEASE Don’t Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

30 degrees and icy – seriously icy. Tree branches weighted down and yard could be used as a skating rink icy. Not going to be a fun day. Iriti planning on working from home.

  2. We have 14 degrees here with an expected high of 16. We got at least 5 inches of snow yesterday and overnight and it is not done. The snow is falling slowing by steadily. Some of it will start blowing around with the winds expected to pick up later this morning.

I hear the plows outside now. Schools have not been cancelled or postponed and probably won’t be. We call 5 inches a dusting around here. 🙂

Today starts the official December push. Everything that has been promised for “this year” has to be done (or at least plausibly started) in the next three weeks.

I will catch up with everyone later. PLEASE stay out of trouble.

so it is hard to see how icy it is outside – I can see some white patches on the back porch. It’s 28 degrees and we have “light freezing rain”, says the weather page.

Looks like not a good commute day – just got hubby up and handed him his coffee.  Glad I do not have to go outside.

Didn’t freeze last night, but it’s still unseasonably cold for here. And it’ll freeze tonight, so I have to cover the plants back up. But by this weekend, it’ll be normal again with 40s overnight & highs in the 60s.

Eating breakfast (quinoa with kale & broccoli with a sauce with tahini, balsamic vinegar, lime juice & cilantro), drinking tea from my Tardis water bottle.

Yes, I will call the doc about my lungs. I probably just need to start using an inhaler again. My outdoor workouts have been in the evenings the past couple of years — and our winters have been mild, so I haven’t been exposed to workouts in 20-something weather.

My earworm – O Come, Emanuel, from church yesterday — amazing how many different versions there are

I’m glad it’s warming up…..my frozen plants are ready for rain and so am I! I see the physical therapist this morning and then I hope I can go back to the pool.

Then I’m going to take my novice quilt to the quilt shop for some advice re how to make the two center squares more interesting. I had to use plain blocks to make the pattern work and while my grand daughters will not notice or care, I think they need some embellishment. A simple quilting pattern will work, but I need a quick lesson!

my favorite hymn of the Advent season. When I was Episcopalian I loved the liturgical calendar and the fact that we sang the same songs at the same time every year.

    Thanks for this, another!

Our power went off at 4:30 a.m. Luckily Dearly Beloved had obtained gas for the generator so currently we’re enjoying some power. He’s gone to work and the generator may give out at any minute, so this post might terminate abruptly!

They’re predicting one to three inches of snow tomorrow morning, so the morning commute will be messed up too. The employers of my son and daughter-in-law have taken up permanent residence in the mid-twentieth century, so no telecommuting for my hapless family members! Such a stupid policy, so easy to reverse. I despise the mindset that says, “If I can’t see you, you aren’t working.”

I hope they’ll be able to get jobs with 21st-century employers one day.

We have a woodstove so we’re not freezing. I’m using the laptop in the dining room at the moment, because the woodstove is in the next room. The oven, furnace, and hot water aren’t on but we’ve been able to have toast and coffee.

Hope everyone will stay safe and warm today!  Will check in again if we have power.

So, no asthma medication, he thinks it was just a normal reaction to the extraordinary cold. So I’m looking at balaclavas & face masks. But I do get to: get my thyroid looked at since it’s been 2 years since the nodule was biopsied; and you know that wonderful test you get to start getting after 50? I get to take mine early. And a sleep study to see if my insomnia is sleep apnea. Sigh.

So now I’m eating dinner & watching Castle, waiting for a new ep tonight. And I stopped at the yuppie grocery store & got a single-serving chocolate cheesecake, because – damn I deserve it.
