    WaPo has some exit polling

A preliminary exit poll conducted Tuesday in Virginia found that early voters were more likely to be Democrats, less white, and more highly educated than the electorate that turned out in the 2009 governor’s race.

Nearly four in 10 voters identified themselves as Democrats, while just over three in 10 said they were Republicans or independents, according to the exit poll conducted by Edison Media Research for the National Election Pool.

If the results bear out the poll findings, the numbers would represent a dramatic shift from four years ago when Republicans outnumbered Democrats by four percentage points.

  2. @daveweigel: That D percentage of the VA electorate – 39% – very troubling for Rs. Means Ds held onto 2012 numbers

That bodes well for 2014. Turnout turnout turnout.

  3. @JeffLieber: Get more conservative… lose… get more conservative…lose… get more conservative… lose… get more conservative… lose…#‎GOP

  4. @JessicaTaylor: #VAGov exits how biggest gender gap in VA yet: McAuliffe up by 14 w/women. In 2009, McDonnell won by 6. In 2012, Obama carried by only 9*

    @stevenportnoy: 62% of #‎VAGOV

voters say they support legal abortion. Two-thirds of them voted for McAuliffe today.

@DavidCornDC: In VA, white guys broke for Cooch by 21 percent. And he still is going to lose. Bad news for GOP. Not enough white-guy voters to win.

Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey Wins Re-election, Exit Polls Show

Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey won re-election on Tuesday, defeating his Democratic rival, State Senator Barbara Buono, by a crushing margin. The victory vaulted him to the front ranks of Republican presidential contenders.

In a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans by 700,000, Mr. Christie won decisively, making impressive inroads among younger voters, blacks, Hispanics and women – all groups that Republicans nationally have struggled to attract.

Governor Bully who yells at teachers wins in a state where teachers unions have been demonized. He will find that the Hates Teachers demographic is much smaller in the rest of America.

Just got back from Jennifer Boysko’s HQ in Herndon, VA. Her race against Rust is too close to call. Jennifer really fought the good fight–I’ve never seen anyone work as hard as she has.  She won in my precinct, which is the biggest precinct in the 86th district!

She was at my precinct most of the day, starting at 6:30 this morning. The rest of her family went to other precincts. I enjoyed standing with her and a couple of other volunteers to pass out sample Democratic ballots. There were some interesting people–one rather cross married couple said they didn’t like McAuliffe or the Kook, but would vote down ballot for Jennifer for delegate and Stacey Kincaid for sheriff.

I really enjoyed working on Jennifer’s campaign. I didn’t do that much but I had a great time meeting all the dynamic people, especially the young ones.

And what some had predicted would be a tight race, Democrat Chris Allen took down 18-year incumbent Republican Robert Aiello in District 2, that covers the village and part of the town of Saugerties.

    I’m grinning 🙂

Though no longer a resident of the Big Apple/ Big Mango – friends and family are there, and my husband works there daily with the poor, the mentally ill, and the elderly.

Lots of my students are from there too – especially from heavily Dominican areas of upper Manhattan.

so my congrats go out to Ydanis Rodriguez

He is very progressive on issues of immigration reform, police brutality, tenants’ rights, workers’ rights and affordable housing. He is known outside of New York City for his arrest at an Occupy Wall Street rally in November 2011. In New York City he is most known for his advocacy of Public Education and the work in his northern Manhattan community.

Victorious Murray ready to show ‘government can work again’

State Sen. Ed Murray’s promise of a more collaborative leadership style carried him to victory Tuesday night in Seattle’s mayoral race, as voters signaled they were fed up with four years of Mayor Mike McGinn’s political brawls.

    ~snip~

Murray, 58, will be Seattle’s first openly gay mayor, and his campaign capitalized on his signature legislative accomplishment – helping to lead the 2012 campaign to legalize same-sex marriage in Washington. He celebrated on stage Tuesday night with Michael Shiosaki, his longtime partner whom he married this summer.

Murray and McGinn ae both Dems…interesting that the candidate with the less combative leadership style won.

Good news from Whatcom county elections as well….

Progressives sweeping Whatcom County races in early returns

If the Whatcom County Council elections were a referendum on a proposed coal export terminal, then the community appears to have taken a stand against it.
