Motley Monday Check in and Mooselaneous Musings

 photo iz-dis-fing-on_zpsa847a99a.jpg

Good morning Motley Meese! Hope your weekend was lovely.

PLEASE Don’t Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

Still supposed to inch down in the 20’s before heading back up to the mid 40’s this afternoon. 10 degrees below normal for this time of year.

Lovely weekend here. We’ve finalized our choice for the log home we plan to build in 2015 and will be putting down a deposit to lock in today’s price. It’s small, meant as our retirement home, but we’ve added lots of windows to make it light and airy. It will also have vaulted ceilings (up to 13 feet, it’s a one story) in the living/dining area and master bedroom. Sooooo excited.

    Happy Monday, Peeps!

  2. 45 degrees here right now on its way up to 55 degrees … windy with showers in the forecast.

Congratulations on your new house, iriti. I laugh when I see people mention “retirement”. My retirement is so far in the future it does not involve thinking about where I will live other than to look at large appliance boxes and think “that one might work”.

Tomorrow is the Big Day in Virginia and the Day of Infamy in New Jersey. I started (another) blog post about Chris Christie and why it would have set the right tone for taking our country back if we could have kicked him to the curb (front-end-loader him to the curb?) this year. In 2009, he and Bob McDonnell were the beneficiaries of the tea party anger purchased with corporate money by FreedomWorks and the Dick Armey in summer 2009. Christie, McDonnell, Scott Brown … then the tea party wave election in November 2010 that swept away the country’s sanity and set up permanent Republican majorities in statehouses across the country. New Jersey politics is complicated (people ask me why we couldn’t recall Scott Walker in 2012 — it’s complicated) so it would be rude of me to wag my nannyish finger at them because they won’t vote to advance my agenda. But I reserve the right to be sad that Christie will be able to run for president in 2016 on the lie that he is a moderate Republican because “Look! Democrats voted for me!”.

Eeek!! I have spent too much time here. I did not work on the projects I needed to get done over the weekend for a variety of reasons. So I have 2 hours to cram about 8 hours of work into. Wish me luck!!!

p.s. Yesterday’s Moose sluggishness appears to be corrected. Kysen reports that we were not alone in the Soapblox world experiencing slowdowns. Fingers and toes crossed that we can continue promoting Progress Through Politics.

Currently 60, hugh of 69, and more rain. Weird to have the light in the morning. I’m going to hate this evening. All evenings, till around January.

Anyway I’m eating breakfast & drinking tea.

The death toll from last week’s floods is now at 5. They found a mother & baby over the weekend and a missing man in Comal county was also found. Very sad. We should get an update this morning on my co-worker whose house was flooded – they said on the news some houses are being condemned.

I’m going to e-mail the library for a Consumer Reports article on mattresses. Mine is 10 years old & at least part of the reason my back hurts all the time.

Gym bag is in the trunk. Now to actually go to the gym after work.

Earworm: Chocolate by Snow Patrol. Which has total nonsense lyrics, none of which make any sense. Well, there are couplets that do (well, mostly), but they don’t mean anything together, and none are about chocolate. I do like this bit though:

Goodness knows I saw it coming

Or at least I’ll claim I did

But in truth I’m lost for words

Lost two huge comments I wrote this morning because the computer crashed AGAIN.  It crashes once a day.

I tried a fix someone at the other place recommended, of reinstalling Firefox, removing Shockwave and Flash and then reinstalling them, but the system still crashes.

I’ll either have to buy a new computer or get someone to fix this one.  Since they both cost the same, I’m not sure what to do. I’ve got Windows 7 professional on this desktop and I HATE Windows 8. I don’t want colorful tiles or a touch screen on my desktop–I use it for work. The iPad is for fun and portability.  The laptop has Windows 8, and it’s such a pain I’ve only turned the thing on three times in the year I’ve had it.

    Grumble grumble grumble.

In the meantime we had a glorious weekend and it’s glorious again today.  Hope everyone will have a good week, and I’ll stop by tomorrow if it doesn’t crash again.

We have been hiding the iPad from my kids due to way to much screen time for them.  But I snuck it out this morning to say hi.  I have been reading but late at night usually.  Just got caught.  These kids have a nose for this iPad.

Mid forties today.  We are going to the park this morning.  I’ll take a towel to dry off the slides so true park fun may be had by all.

Hope you all are well.  We have been steaming ahead with house renovations and are a week away from a completed second bathroom!

    Have a great day all!

Yesterday was the kind of fall day I love…..crisp and sunny. Our neighbors help RonK rake and bag two truck fulls of leaves, and I cleaned and reclaimed my floral arranging space in the garage. A productive day!

My friends at A Lot of Flowers gave me the arranging bench from the old shop so I’m happily nostalgic when using it for my own fun. I found space for a heater and a leg up resting place so hopefully I can maintain and still enjoy my hobby.

Sunny and gorgeous today, as Diana in NoVa said. I sent my research plan and I dare to think it’s a pretty good one. Oh, and this.

    Dear Portlaw,

You have been diligent in wishing me well, and good thoughts have been sent to me by other friends also. I muchly appreciate this warmth. It looks as though I’m financially okay from now until the end of December, which will make these winter months, well, warmer.

Thank you all for your friendship.

It’s overcast and we may (or may not) get rain.  It’s 1st day of priority registration – still fairly quiet, so far only 4 juniors trying to get into classes reserved for graduating seniors (plus 1 mommy trying to get her baby sophomore into a class reserved for graduating seniors).  Quiet as in they take up time as they first argue and then ask for help re-doing their schedules, but since relatively few (at the moment) they aren’t lined up down the hall as they will be later in the week.  On the bright side, my regular QC committee meetings for the week have been canceled for lack of agenda.  Hope everyone has as good a Monday as possible.  {{{HUGS}}} bf
