Russell Brand on the BBC’s Newsnight..You Marry me NAOW!

MOOOOSE bit of time since i’ve communed in the herd, but Russell Brand has done it again, and I just wanted to blog about it.

No, I’m not leaving my Sweetie actually, what I want to wed are his ideas, but more specifically the lyrical way he presents them in interviews.

Actor and comedian Russell Brand is calling for a political and philosophical revolution in his guest editorship of the New Statesman magazine, and he explained what he wants to see in a passionately argued interview on BBC’s “Newsnight.”

Combative host Jeremy Paxson asked the British actor, who’s known for his past drug use and his brief marriage to pop singer Katy Perry, what gave him the right to promote his political beliefs, particularly since he’s never voted.

“I don’t get my authority from this preexisting paradigm, which is quite narrow and only serves a few people,” Brand said. “I look elsewhere for alternatives that might be of service to humanity.”

He continued, issuing reams of prose even as the veteran TV reporter challenged him to defend his arguments.

This is the third example I’ve seen in the last little while of this man speaking some very stark truth in a very entertaining yet extremely poignant manner.

His attitude about voting I don’t believe serves American interests at this time, but I certainly understand why he holds them.

Russell Brand appears to be his generations John Lennon.  I have no problem with what he’s trying to say.

Last week when I asked about places that no longer exist that you’d like to visit,  the Library of Alexandria was the most frequent answer. So, IF you could visit it, and IF you were able to read the contents, what section of the library would you head for first?

What is your favorite internet search engine. Why?

What is your favorite online photo upload site? Why?

Licorice: A good thing or a bad thing (the black stuff, the red vines are not really licorice)?

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

Hypocrisy Alert! The Party of Defund Obamacare concerned about ‘healthcare.gov’ web site glitches.

The party that shut down the government in an attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act wants to fire the person in charge of implementing the program … because the web site does not work well:

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) said Tuesday that the secretary must be “held accountable” for Obamacare’s rocky online rollout.

Republicans have been fiercely critical of the Obamacare web portal’s glitch-ridden Oct. 1 launch. Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS) called for the HHS secretary’s resignation a few weeks ago, asserting “Americans are tired of the Sebelius spin.”

Hate Affordable Care Act and vote 44 times to repeal it. Check.

Hate Affordable Care Act and shut down the government to delay/defund it. Check.

Call for the resignation of the person in charge of implementing the health care law you despise … wait … NOW I get it.

Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind.

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

E Pluribus…de facto segregation

 photo racistprotestinArkansas_zps4d2832fe.jpg

Some of us were alive when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Brown v. the Board of education. Few of us who were around in 1959 can forget photos documenting the reactions like this one depicting a rally at state capitol of Little Rock in Arkansas, protesting the integration of Central High School. The protesters were carrying U.S. flags and signs that read “Race Mixing is Communism” and “Stop the Race Mixing March of the Anti-Christ”.

They would fit right in with the ideology of modern day Teapublicans. Lest we forget that this phenomena of segregation was not simply a matter of the south, demonstrations and protests around schools and segregation took place in the north as well, like this photo of a 60’s protest in St. Louis.

What is your favorite nut? Do you prefer to eat them out of the shell, or some other way?

It’s National Color Day, what’s your favorite color? Does this change over time, or has it remained the same?

Do you throw away things like towels when they start to get frayed and tattered?
