Motley Monday Check in and Mooselaneous Musings

 photo iz-dis-fing-on_zpsa847a99a.jpg

Good morning Motley Meese! Hope your weekend was lovely.

PLEASE Don’t Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

34 here in the Shenandoah Valley, headed down to 32 before rocketing back up to 62. Who knows how to dress for such foolishness?

    Hope it’s a marvelous Monday.

  2. 36 degrees here, heading up to 47 degrees. Looks like we will get high 50s later in the week along with some rain.

October ends this week but not conveniently on a Friday or weekend so I have to make sure to set aside time for end of month accounting related things.

The news these days has been wringing me dry. There are too many issues that seem unsolvable and too many stories suggesting gridlock is going to be a permanent part of our government for many years to come. I am a pragmatic progressive, and as such I see the long game … change does not come quickly or easily. But a few short term victories would help allay the weariness. “Winning” the battle to reopen the government and not crash the world economy is not really a victory unless the Overton Window has shifted so far to the right that “our country doesn’t completely suck” is considered a great outcome. It doesn’t help that the teapartiers are showing no remorse and that the Republican Party’s official leadership, which needs TP votes and money, has learned about as much from this latest debacle as they did from the debacle of the Romney candidacy. When you scratch the surface of the supposed Republican moderates you find Republicans who desperately want to regain power and who will form alliances with anyone who will give them a shot at it.

Well, that was even more gloomy! Off to work!!

Wearing capris & sandals – it’s 66 now, heading to a high of 80. Last week the weather people were saying we’d get a cool down later this week, looks like that’s gone.

Eating breakfast & drinking tea. I’ll call the dermatologist at 9. And I’ve got to remember to vote – we have constitutional amendments & some city bonds to vote on. This time next year, we’ll be having city council & mayor – we voted in single member districts, so there’ll be 11 open seats. Endorsement meetings will be a freaking nightmare. But that’s next year, who knows what could happen between now & then.

Earworm – Walk on the Wild Side. In college, one of my friends’ band played a really great version of it.

but it is not here yet.

55f.  the day’s high was 62f, at midnight.  potential low in the 40s.  which is not a lot different than last week, just distributed differently.

Today is the 28th of October. I just checked my time record. The Company Which Shall Not be named has given me the following number of hours of work in October.

    Two

I did edit my friend’s novel, and I’ve billed her for 1/3 of the work this month so I won’t lose my $16 (oops, $15 because the Stimulus expires October 31) in food stamps.

I’m not really Poor Pitiful Pearl because I have some options left. But when things happen to me, it reminds me of all the similar things happening to already-suffering families all over this godforsaken country of ours.

Bit stiff and sore this morning. It’s 46 degrees, supposed to reach 63 today.

Tonight’s spinning at the Greenbank Mill, so I’m taking some bamboo to spin. And I have three skeins of yarn to hang up to dry, since I washed them last night to set the twist.

No clouds, no fog! The twinkly stars in the still dark sky were a nice surprise when I went downstairs for coffee this morning.

It was a basal cell carcinoma, but she’s sure last week’s scraping got it all. There’s already a follow up scheduled for January. She did write a prescription for a chemotherapy cream that I’m going to have to use for 2 weeks, since this is the 2nd time this has happened, besides all the little things they freeze off. I’ll put it on my scalp & forehead for 2 weeks, she says this is one of those “worse to get better” things – there will be redness & even scaling. But she says she’s sure all is ok, didn’t want to move the follow up to sooner.

Nurse Kelley – I tried to remember the name of the cream, but it went out of my head instantly.

    62 F. today.

Gosh, anotherdemocrat, that sounds like a bummer to go through. Both Dearly Beloved and Elder Son have had problems with small skin cancers. They’ve had them removed from foreheads, ears, and forearms. They now wear hats and long sleeves when they go out in the sun. Hope you will sail through the treatment and recover very quickly!

Did the Overnight Oatmeal thing last night–opened the crockpot this morning and the results were quite tasty. Dearly Beloved wants me to add more maple sugar next time we make it, and we both like our oatmeal “soupier,” so next time I’ll use less steel-cut oatmeal and a bit more milk and water.

It’s really nice to sling everything in a crockpot, set it to “low,” go off to bed, and wake up the next morning with breakfast already cooked.

Had a lovely dinner with the newlyweds last night–yesterday was their six-month wedding anniversary, which neither of them had realized until I pointed it out.

This morning I had to unexpectedly take Miss Preschooler to day care. She was still asleep when Daddy had to leave for work.  Can’t imagine what we’re going to go through next year when she begins kindergarten! Somehow we’re going to have to get her to bed earlier.

Hope everyone will have a good day!

then 60s/40s for the rest of the week.  The weekend was pleasant but we could sure use some of that rain they keep saying we’re going to get but don’t.  The week is starting more or less calm.  No QC tonight helps.  As of the grand opening of the Marion Orton Recycling Center on Saturday, I’ve now had 4 elected officials/department heads ask me to reconsider and run for re-election.  I’m wavering.  The situation is toxic and I’m anything but efficient as far as getting anything done – but I do voice the concerns and issues of the elected officials and department heads, especially at budget time.  Sigh.  We’ll see if any other Dems want the job – QC can be a great training ground for those who want to move on to state and federal office which I don’t want to do.  If nobody else wants it, I guess maybe…  {{{HUGS}}} bf
