Motley Monday Check in and Mooselaneous Musings

Good morning Motley Meese! Hope your weekend was lovely.

PLEASE Don’t Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

It is so too morning, at least on the East coast. 55 degrees as I post, headed down to 46 before going back up to 68.

Posting this now because I get to sleep in, hooray. Off to the ortho tomorrow, where they’ll cut this smelky cast off. Here’s hiping they don’t have to put a new one on.

    Happy Monday!

  2. I also hipe that they cut your smelky cast off!! 🙂

It is 39 degrees here. I think this may be our first visit into the 30s. There was a frost advisory through this morning so I guess it is time to winterize the house. The cover will go on the satellite dish to keep the ice and snow off, the rainbarrels will be emptied, the outside faucets turned off.

It is expected to get to 63 degrees today.

Busy Monday as Mondays usually are. I will be keeping half an eye on the news but I am afraid that it will not be good. All signs point to default. Unfortunately, the Republicans are getting some terrible advice about the result of the default. They think that a shut down Treasury department can just sit down at the kitchen table, sift through the million or so bills that are sitting there and decide which ones to pay. And hope to hell that the guys who they don’t pay won’t come and take the car.

Chuck Schumer sounded hopeful “We’re Not That Far Apart On Debt Deal”:

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) outlined Sunday a possible deal to re-open the federal government and increase the debt ceiling, saying he was encouraged by recent talks between Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

The potential deal would fund the government until some point before the automatic budget cuts known as sequestration take effect again in January. The sides would then work to replace the cuts. It would also raise the debt limit before it is breached on Oct. 17.

It sounds like the Wall Street guys (who still have money but not as much clout) have gotten to Mitch McConnell. There were some signs last week, especially after right-wing bloggers shook their tiny fists screaming that they would primary him, that he knew that placating the tea party was never going to work and that his best bet was to throw in his lot with the other money guys: Wall Street business interests. I wonder if the terrible polls gave him pause? McConnell: I’ll ‘Work With The Government We Have — Not The One I Wish We Had’

McConnell noted that while he would prefer to have a Republican in the White House and a GOP-controlled Senate, he must accept the current circumstances.

“I’ve fully demonstrated that as much as I would rather have a Republican president and would rather be the majority leader of the Senate, I’m willing to work with the government we have – not the one I wish we had,” he said.

He has a Democratic challenger with business ties who might sound more appealing than the wild-eyed bombthrower he would sound like after he moved far enough right to please the tea partiers. Unless he has Mitt Romney’s Etch-a-Sketch, he will not be able to move to the middle for the general election and if he is complicit in crashing the world financial markets, the more traditional money guys will probably not reward him with their largesse.

Another prediction: if Mitch McConnell cuts a deal that makes it through the Senate, John Boehner will cave.

Whew! So much for “one little comment then off to work”. How about “one bloviation then off to work”?

    See all y’alls later!!

sun just beginning to peek through. Enjoyed myself too much over the weekend–my weight is back up.  Off to the gym this morning!

I feel terrible about the news.  It’s so depressing.  I’m afraid the Rethugs will drive the country into default.  If they do, there goes Social Security and veterans’ pensions!  Dearly Beloved pointed out that our pensions would disappear too.

Now the sun is really coming out.  At least the grass looks green now, not dry and dead as it did before the rain began last week.

Perhaps we’ll get some good news today–let’s hope so!

Long time no see.  We have been bathroom remodeling and that is quite the time suck.  Plus, our weather has been amazing so I’ve been outside a lot with the kiddies.  Went to the Chicago marathon yesterday.  Always amazing and inspirational.  My friend flew in from NYC to run it and did great.

    Have a great day everyone!

I’m meeting a friend for lunch today to celebrate her 69th birthday……we’re both wondering how we suddenly find ourselves to be this age. Time to pay attention!

    skull-banging headache with it (for me, my best friend, and the G.A. working the computer lab at least – can’t say how many more).  Coffee has helped bring it down to a dull roar.  Got QC Budget committee tonight.  And tomorrow night.  (Regular QC on Thursday.)  Many of you may already know, but Trish’s kitteh Jenny crossed The Bridge Saturday night.  Apparently some kind of renal failure.  dammit.  Any way hope all the meeses have a decent week, even if it doesn’t seem to be starting out as a week ‘o mundays.  {{{HUGS}}}
