Friday Coffee Hour: Check In and Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind. TGIF! Don’t forget to let your peeps know where to find you.

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

Friday Coffee Hour and check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

OK, good middle of the night. But hopefully good morning by the time you read this. It’s 50 in the Shenandoah Valley, headed down to 48 then back up to 74.

TGIF. Been a busy, crazy week here, planning on a very lazy weekend.

65 f inside, after 80ish as recently as tuesday.

outside is (peeking now) 48f, possibly falling to 41 for the overnight low.  friday high is forecast to be 51f brrrr.

kids and i are heading up to evanston for a practice trip, just overnight.  1:15 drive from here.

  3. 51 degrees here in Madison WI, expected high of 80 degrees. Wha? It was not supposed to get to 80 again!! I am sure that this is finally it. A front moving through tomorrow will cool it back down into the 70s.

Today is the second to the last working day of September which is also the end of the 3rd quarter. Lots of deadlines to meet.

I am pulling together the video and transcript of the president’s speech on the Affordable Care Act yesterday in Maryland and will post it shortly. It was a good one.

    See all y’alls later!!

going up to 70. Getting ready for school.

End of September is school tax time for us – they went up this year 🙁

    72. Coffee and reading about Boehner and the hostage takers are first, then it’s time to get serious. Hope you all have a great day wherever you are.

On another note, like thinking, as I type greetings, that some Meese have been working for hours and are thinking about lunch, others struggling to find the coffee and the keyboard and yet others are still sleeping, snug in their beds. Mooseland spans so many zones!

Blech, allergies. I wonder if my twitchy eye is related, but it gets so much better when I leave the building, so maybe not.

Because of a discussion in another diary, I did without the valerian last night. I didn’t know that it starts having the opposite effect if you take it too long. Anyway, it didn’t make much difference. So I keep finding out that this stuff I’ve been doing do help me sleep isn’t. Sigh.

Anyway, exciting speakers at my church tonight. Very unconventional women, I’m in the middle of reading both of their books: Jesus Freak and Pastrix_.  Brought my AIDS Walk t-shirt to change into, because, well, never pass up an opportinity to ask for donations, and the church is expecting over 300 people. For a religious talk. On a Friday night. In the live music capitol of the world.

Anyway, that’s my day: work as long as my twitchy eye will let me,  talk at church, bed as early as I can because of my ungodly early Saturday wake-up.

It is a beaut of a morning here in VA Bch, 68 now and only expected to hit 72. I love this weather we have been having the past week or so. It is a shame that it never lasts long.

I hope everyone’s work week closes out peacefully and transitions smoothly into a relaxing weekend.

I’d like to take a moment for a bit of diary pimpage…

Sricki (a much love ‘original’ Moose) has written a most excellent diary on the stigma of mental illness. It can currently be found on the Moose front page and HERE on dKos.

I HIGHLY recommend that everyone give it a read (and give Ricki some Moose love!).

    Hope all are well!

Sixty degrees going to eighty today.  Beautiful.  My husband works late tonight but then has all weekend off.  Our new bathroom is starting.  The plumber is starting work today.  So exciting.  And expensive!

Off to have another cup of coffee.  Have a great day everyone!

I’ve committed a colossal error on my last few documents for The Company That Must Not Be Named. When I receive the files they’re from Word 2010, docx files. I transform them into Word 2003 files by opening them with OpenOffice by Apache and transferring the text to Word 2003.

It seems for the last few weeks the docs have been opened in the abomination called WordPad instead. WordPad is a stripped down version of Word that exists I know not why. When I transferred the text, the footnotes have been missing and I didn’t know it. I don’t know why, maybe stress or something, I didn’t think to say Hmmm… something’s missing here.

There’s a disclaimer above the text that says WordPad does not support all of the features of this document’s format. Some content might be missing or displayed improperly.

I should say so. One never expects that the footnotes will be hacked off as in the Spanish Inquisition.

It’s 65 here (inside) and the fingers on my right hand are cold. This always happens when it gets to that temperature range, and it only ever affects the right hand. A fingerless glove helps. And hot coffee.

I’m babysitting the F Bomb, but it appears to be napping, so I guess I’ll go finish up the hovers for next week… and maybe I’ll make some bread today. If it’s as windy as yesterday, the weather will be perfect for actually turning on the oven.

We’ll get our first freeze tonight and maybe some snow – yay! I hope that puts paid to the grass and weed pollen that have exploded this summer. Last night the lawn was fertilized and soaked while my guy removed lots of tree limbs. There are still a few hummingbirds passing through on their way south, but most of the summer birds are gone.

My day started late so I missed my pool time, which is prolly just as well because like it or not it’s going to be an elevate the leg day 🙁  I much prefer the “waning” part of the commonly used “waxing and waning” description of chronic conditions!
