Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind. Don’t forget to let your peeps know where to find you.

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

It’s 45 here in the Shenandoah Valley, headed for a high of 74. Fall has fallen!

Guess what day it is, Meeses! Guess.What.Day.It.Is:  Humpdaaaaaaay! (I love to hate that commercial).

    Happy Wednesday.

  2. 48 degrees in Madison with dense fog advisory until 9am. Expected high of 72 degrees. Perfect weather (once the fog burns off).

I might have to travel today but I am not sure yet because my client is not getting back to me. People are very quick to report problems but not as quick to report that the things I have suggested they try worked. I am hoping that it is the latter (that my suggestion worked) because I really don’t want to get in my car today. I have too much queued work from dealing with a different major crisis for 2 days.

Drizzling rain, edging toward a high of 70. I have no clients today!!! Yay.  Uh-oh. No clients means no cash flow. Boooo!

Got to take daughter to doctor this morning for a routine appointment, but otherwise quiet day. Planning on doing a few chores, but not much else.

but will be 70 later they say.

Have to spend the day writing for Sunday, and will need some sage to smudge with after doing the research since I’m wading through “white power” websites …UGH!

    Happy hump day Meeses!

  5. Made it back with my brother. He loves it down here in North Carolina. His car and furniture are on the way. During the course of getting him I slipped while trying to climb into his truck to clean it out and banged up by left shin really bad. It is still throbbing. The I slipped on a spill on the stairs at his old place and sprained my right ankle. On the train over it lurched while I was up and getting Reid some coffee and I badly sprained my left ankle and bruised my right thigh. I am just the walking wounded.

56 right now in partly cloudy Delaware, gonna be about 75. Nice day to do some outside stuff, if I can limber myself up. Woke up stiff and sore, hands swollen, hip grumpy. WTH?

Oh, well. Life goes on, and so will I.

Fine weather continues, though it’s been breezy. At least the temperature has been mild. And no fog!

I hope everyone is having a great week. 🙂

The furnace has started turning on so I should close the window in my room. But I enjoy the breeze and the fresh air so I always wait as long as I can.

We went to dinner with our son last night and enjoyed see his pictures and hearing his stories about his trip……a modern family moment, passing the iPhone around and texting photos to the rest of the family. It’s all magic!

I’ve got a quick appointment with the pain doc this afternoon (to give him a good report) and that’s about it. All the rain we’ve had has made the Aspen trees stay green long past the usual time for color, so the leaf peepers should stay home this weekend. Khloe and I are enjoying the post-Labor Day quiet up here. 🙂

    Budget Committee not so bad last night, approved 6 non-controversial Judge’s dept no-increase-requested budgets, argued whether some of the new 1/2 cent sales tax for roads and transit should actually, you know, go to transit – but since the transit guy didn’t show up with a request, for the time being anyway it’s all going to roads.  Then we sent the road guy away to “get us more data and come back next month” and went home.  I actually got to eat dinner last night, albeit after 7 pm which is a bit late for me, but not so late I can’t eat (Monday night not home til 8:30 – can’t eat that late).  Halfway through the week – hope the rest is good for everybody.  {{{HUGS}}}

82 in South Florida this morning. We did the PETA protest at Linda Beans yesterday. One thing is for certain, PETA knows how to stage a protest. The whole town was buzzing about it all day yesterday and it was on several of the local news stations and picked up all over the place. People are still talking about it today.

Linda Bean is a right wing crazy so it as fun giving her business a little grief yesterday

I copyedited for 4.5 hrs today. I can manage about 4-5 hrs/day, one pass with track changes, another pass looking at final to see how the edits came out, and diminishing returns in the sixth hour so I try not to extend the day. I hope I can do more pages per hour as I go along. The book is short, only 150 single spaced pages and 74,000 words, so I don’t expect burnout or anything.

I hated suggesting a change in the lede, but the opening sentence just didn’t work, and of course the first paragraph is crucial to every book. This is why editors have to inspire trust and do their very best. Fortunately, my friend thinks highly of my professional skills, and she’s an editor herself, so Whew!

I’ve heard it said that writers hate editors. Editors have to prove themselves writer by writer and book by book. People think it’s just comma splices and Mrs. Grundy the English Teacher but it’s a lot more than that. It’s more like bathing a newborn, you don’t want the mother looking over your shoulder, you just want to hand back a clean, shiny baby.
