Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind. Don’t forget to let your peeps know where to find you.

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

Headed for a high of 82. Crisp out there this morning – Autumn approaches.

Not quite awake yet this fine morning…

  2. 51 degrees here in Madison WI on its way up to 84. Yesterday it did not get above 75 but the sun was out. It was what I would call a lovely day.

Today is either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. If it is Wednesday, I am in a world of hurt because I have not gotten my Tuesday work done and, also, that means that tomorrow is Thursday which is going to be 5 times as busy as a normal work day because of some new systems going into production.

Yesterday was the first day of school and it was a half-day. To call it chaotic would be kind. I am wondering why bus routes and bus schedules are so hard to get right after about 70 years of using buses to transport kids to school. Some of the buses were half-empty and some of them had kids 3 to a seat. That might work for kindergartners but not so much fun when it is 6 ft 200 lb high schoolers. If they don’t have a computer program to do the routes, they are negligent. If their computer program came up with this schedule, they need a new program.

Today I will take my daughter to school because there is no way that she can possibly get her musical instrument on a bus that is already overcrowded. I will give them until Friday to sort this out then I will get my pitchfork sharpened and head down to the school district offices. Or send an email. 🙂

    No rain in sight yet.

Yesterday did indeed turn out to be a Monday from Hell type day.  A few steps forward, a few back…. hopefully, today it’ll be better.

Orange version of my diary is up. It’s already 80 degrees out, pre-7am. A little bit of rain, just enough to make it feel like a steam bath. And it’ll be over 100 again this afternoon. Blech

Our weather is improving right on schedule. We’re still having foggy mornings but the afternoons are nice and sunny, and this weekend is predicted to actually get HOT.

I’ve been spending more time outdoors and less time on the internet, mostly for reasons of physical health. Have somehow put on ten of the 25lbs I’d managed to lose so I’m battling to reverse that and hopefully lose even more weight, or at least turn fat into something like muscle mass. I joined the neighborhood gym with a four-month membership but haven’t started working out there yet because I need help in setting up an exercise regime that’s both low-impact per the orthopedist AND effective.

Now that there is sunshine I’ve been feeling much less gloomy, which is a wonderful thing indeed. 🙂

  6. Now A Test Can Tell If Your Pricey Cup Of Cat Poop Coffee Is Fake

The beans are literally harvested from the feces of the tree-dwelling civet cat in Indonesia. The idea is that a trip through the animal’s digestive tract partially ferments the beans and imparts a much-sought-after flavor to the coffee.

The exotic processing makes the coffee, called Kopi Luwak, exceptionally rare – and expensive: Think . And thus, experts suspect that much of what’s sold as civet coffee on the market is actually either or made from low-grade beans.

The funniest sentence in that story:

“[biotechnologist Sastia] Putri argues that counterfeit coffees are giving the civet poop coffee a bad name. “

How could “civet poop coffee” ever get a bad name? 🙂

Am headed off to a hair salon in a few. One of the things I miss the most about living in NYC is that there are thousands of beauticians who have a clue about how to do my hair. Up here it is a problem.

I’m going to try once again, at a new shop, after a series of failures over the last few years.

If this doesn’t work I’m just going to have to go all the way to NYC and get it done right.

Ahh- the luxury problems we face in life 😉

Off to the bank to discuss my, um, little overdraft problem.

Raided my IRA over the weekend but I haven’t got around to getting direct deposit. That oversight came back to bite me in the butt. They’ll overnight the check but then I have to deposit it and wait for it to clear.

I bought a coffeemaker for R last week. She’s too busy to go to Kmart or Target or wherever when stuff needs replacing so I’m happy to do it for her. I’ll collect the $15.00 she owes me to add to whatever cash I have in my wallet until the check clears.

Reason for overdraft? It took the property manager till August 12 to cash my July 12 condo fee. Then they cashed the August 15 check yesterday and ding ding ding! I’m overdrawn.

Made a phone call yesterday to ask why I was approved for SNAP August 5 and haven’t received my $16.00 (now $32.00) EBT card.

Ain’t life grand in the twenty-teens!

Maybe 80 for the high, so definitely comfortable.

Got stuff to do today, but motivation is just out of reach. Already listed a few vacs on eBay, so we shall see how they do. I really need to work on my Etsy shop. It has been sadly neglected.

I just can’t seem to stand watching or listening to any news this week. My stress level is high enough without witnessing choreographed arguments about Syria, but my heart goes out to the people suffering there.

    with an expected high in the upper 80s.  We’ve got another night/day of this which is nice.  Last night wasn’t (nice that is).  I’m not sure what was the worst.  The Animal Shelter didn’t even bother to send a rep to make the report – just sent the stats which are bad.  We’ve had so much sickness in the animals brought in this summer.  For August every single kitten and most of the puppies had to be put down.  It’s just heart breaking – and that fiasco last month when the Court refused to fully fund/staff the Shelter!  We’ll be lucky if the entire staff doesn’t just take a walk.  What we did do at a meeting that ran over 2 hours and I had to leave before it was over (nausea) was argue and insult people about the water project that is taking water to most of the SE section of the county – ahead of deadline and more people than originally planned for – and why it wasn’t taking water to 3 households we don’t have right-of-ways to get to and then start taking the employee use of County equipment policy apart line by line.  I left in the middle of that.  Not running again.  Just not.  (At least not if the person doing the line-by-line thing runs.)  I’ll be lucky if I can hold out the whole 15 months of the rest of this term.  Sigh.  Everybody have whatever kind of day you want to have 🙂 {{{HUGS}}}

All the grand kids are back in school now, and thanks to the magic of smart phones and their thoughtful moms I’ve been sharing the first day fun. They look so cute and excited to begin the new school year……1st grade for little girls, 6th for Emma and 7th for Ryan.

I’m a nervous and excited mom this morning to. Our son (Hans/cornbread) is leaving this morning for a trip to Austria and Croatia. He’s very excited, but given his experience with blood clot hell (a bad PE 4 yrs ago) I’m feeling very anxious.

I finally have the prior authorization form for my painkiller.

R pushed me to go and get it at the pharmacy at 3:30 today and when I got there the dr’s office had just called in my Trazodone (sleeping pill) Rx. I was able to get the form and the Trazo in one trip.

Tomorrow I get the form signed because dr is in same building where I have cardiology appointment.

My own fault. I didn’t do this very well. I’ll do it right from now on.
