It’s International Youth Day. Are you the “get off my lawn” type, or do you tolerate or even enjoy the young (not counting the ones related to you)?

Did you ever read comics? If so, which ones? Do you still read them (or graphic novels)?

Do you play computer games? Which ones?

On This Day

In 30 BC, Cleopatra (7th of her name and the only famous one) allegedly made an asp of herself. It was fatal.

In 1851, Isaac Singer received a patent for his sewing machine.

In 1898, Hawaii was annexed to the United States, though it did not receive the privileges of statehood until 1959 (though there are some today who insist it is still not part of the U.S.).

In 1898, the Spanish-American War officially ended.

In 1964, South Africa was first banned from the Olympics for their racist apartheid policy. I guess we can’t ban Russia for their homophobic laws since they are hosting.

In 1981, IBM released their first PC.

In 2004, the Supreme Court of California ruled that the same sex marriages conducted in San Francisco since February of that year were void, stating that Mayor Gavin Newsom did not have the authority to allow them.

  1. For National Vinyl Records Day, what is your preferred music medium? Vinyl, CD, digital…? Music I can put on my MP3 player and take everywhere.

It’s International Youth Day. Are you the “get off my lawn” type, or do you tolerate or even enjoy the young (not counting the ones related to you)?  Love young people. They help keep me young.

Did you ever read comics? If so, which ones? Do you still read them (or graphic novels)? The only one I ever got into was Howard the Duck. I’ll reread the ones I’ve got.

Do you play computer games? Which ones? Basically just Solitaire and Mahjong when I’m having problems sleeping.

CD. My car will play stuff from a flash drive & I put a whole bunch on one & it only plays about 1/4 of the songs. Something about “digital rights management”??? I don’t understand.

Youth, as in teenagers? I don’t really interact with them. College kids — this is a bad time to ask, as Austin is being invaded by 50,000 of them as we speak. My ratio of near death experiences goes up drastically, with all the people doing u-turns in the middle of the street, turning left fromthe driving lane — or the right lane, etc. So I guess that makes me a “get off my lawn” person. I can’t wait till mext May.

Sandman is on my tbr list. I read some of the Walking Dead, then noticed they were publishing number 108 or something like that & lost heart. And the plot line was so different from the show. Of course, there was one instance where it had to be. Even on cable, what happened to Michonne at Woodbury would have been too much.

Do you play computer games? Which ones?

No, I know I’d get too caught up in them, so I just don’t.

  3. For National Vinyl Records Day, what is your preferred music medium? Vinyl, CD, digital…?

I have a lot of CDs.

    Some of each

Did you ever read comics? If so, which ones? Do you still read them (or graphic novels)?

I don’t read comics now, but as a kid I read a lot of them.

Do you play computer games? Which ones?

I am not hooked on any computer games right now. I played Civilization a lot, in the Civ II and Civ III versions. I play Ruzzle some on my Droid. I play bridge against my computer.

75, on its way to 89.  Already feels miserable at 75.

I like CDs, but of course they pile up in your house like LPs.  The mp3 and the iPod are humankind’s greatest inventions.  I love having my gazillion tunes in the car, putting them on shuffle, and never knowing what’s coming next.

    I like the youngsters.

When I was a kid, I read the whole comics page.  Now I only read Doonesbury, Tom Tomorrow, and the other Kos comic by Keef.  Don’t remember the name.  The only things I’ve ever read that you could call graphic novels are Maus and Persepolis.

Nope.  Computer games don’t call out to me.

A further thank you is in order for not posting a Porter Wagoner video.  😉

I used to read comics when I was younger. Richie Rich, Archie, Dennis the Menance etc.

I don’t play a lot of computer games. I do play Spider solitaire pretty much every day. We have a 200+ solitaire games set and Spider is pretty much all we play. LOL.

I made some kahlua gelato and it was pretty good. Then I tried this Raspberry-Chery Ripple Gelato. Pic from the site below-

Looks good, doesn’t it. Well, I didn’t like it. Tasted like raspberry ice cream. Not to mention, the lemon added to prevent oxidation of the raspberries ruined it for me. Lemon and milk just don’t go together. The fruit gelati I’ve had in the past from the gelaterias didn’t taste like ice cream at all, but had an intense fruit flavor. I suspect they were sorbettos.

Valerie June hails from Tennessee, and at times her music surveys a spectrum of the state’s signature sounds – from the rural roots of the West to Nashville’s country twang to foot-stomping Memphis blues. On the new album Pushin’ Against a Stone, June embodies each of those voices with raw confidence and a voice that’s as powerful as it is unusual.

music medium…..I like cd’s, but I’ve saved all my old LP’s and am very tempted to buy a player so I can listen to them again.

youth day….I love kids, and since one grand girl just climbed in bed with me and the other two will be here soon it’s fortunate I do! Full bed now…..they have all arrived.

comics….I don’t read them anymore, but I used to.

computer games ….I enjoy Solitaire and the girls think it is time to play Starfall, right now, please Grammie!

Reading Tweets requires a lot of grammatical and lexical leaps of faith. It is almost a language unto itself: TweeNGlish … building on the language of texting but with #hashtags and a REAL character limit (most phones allow you to send any size message now, taking the creativity out of texting).

From the butterfly flapping its wings in San Francisco … to Sacramento … to the voting booth … to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals … to the Supreme Court of the United States and now California law.

In 2004, the Supreme Court of California ruled that the same sex marriages conducted in San Francisco since February of that year were void, stating that Mayor Gavin Newsom did not have the authority to allow them.

A delightful day of hovers with a water-into-wine theme. Thank goodness it was not water into whine … we already have too much whining on the Internets!!

No whining from me about this: today’s BIG HUGE DEAL:

Happy Birthday, George Soros!!! Without you all of us liberal bloggers would be starving!!!!

p.s. We R Now PetBOTS: “Assimilation is complete. No resistance was encountered.”

  11. Cruz’s Dad: ‘Homosexual Marriage’ Designed To Make Government Your God (VIDEO)

The new federal health care law will “destroy the elderly” and “homosexual marriage” is designed to supplant God with government, Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) father warned conservatives in Iowa over the weekend.

In a fiery speech Saturday at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa, Pastor Rafael Cruz laid out a number of socialist doomsday scenarios that he claimed are playing out in the United States, likening President Barack Obama to Fidel Castro.

For National Vinyl Records Day, what is your preferred music medium? Vinyl, CD, digital…?  Digital – MP3 Players/iPods made my life so much easier; I have a wide ranging taste in music, and carrying a portable CD player and a huge book of CDs everywhere was tiring.

It’s International Youth Day. Are you the “get off my lawn” type, or do you tolerate or even enjoy the young (not counting the ones related to you)?  Definitely the “get off my lawn” type.  Children make me irritable.

Did you ever read comics? If so, which ones? Do you still read them (or graphic novels)?  When I was younger, I read Archie, and the newspaper comics.  These days, I read webcomics, and lots of them, including the syndicated ones still.  I have the bookmarks at home, so I don’t have the full list, but if anyone’s interested I can post it later.

Do you play computer games? Which ones?  Oh yes.  Skyrim, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Civ V, just picked up Shadowrun Returns and Divinity: Dragon Commander; those are this year’s obsessions anyway.  Neverwinter Nights, Diablo, Evil Genius, Dungeon Keeper 1&2, and Rise of Nations are old favorites that I still break out now & then.
