Friday Coffee Hour: Check In and Hangout for the Herd

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

Friday Coffee Hour and check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

A brisk 55 degrees here, headed for a gorgeous, sunny, perfect high of 82 with moderate humidity.

Tomorrow: Road trip. Driving 420 miles each way…down to Knoxville, TN to meet my sister halfway, do a Mother exchange and bring her back for a 6 week visit.

This year Mom has a built in driver since Kidlet got her license, so she’ll be in heaven. Kidlet on the other hand…

here in the Hudson Valley of NY, so I will have dogs cowering next to me as I try to write.

I wish someone here, who has a better understanding of policy would write a piece on the “Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board” and its members.

From what I could glean this morning there was strong r-wing opposition to the new chair David Medine – see Chuck Grassley statement for example

Looks like Repubs have been blocking them from existing in more than name only for some time.

I see that POTUS is meeting with them.

oh well – back to my writing-for-deadline

  3. 69 degrees here with an expected high of 85 degrees. Scattered storms in the forecast … one scattered itself on us about an hour ago.

The ebil “no sleep for you!” gods conspired against me last night. Late to bed because of a youth softball double-header that needed some decompression from … awakened at 1am by the smoke detector telling me the battery needed replacing (why does it never discover this in the daylight hours?). Then storms rumbled through about 3am or so.

The alarm clock was ignored for as long as I possibly could and coffee does not seem to be helping.

Have a great trip, iriti. I am sure that driving 800+ miles is EXACTLY what you want to do after just coming home from a trip of about 4,000 miles.

heading for the low 80s. I am thinking of heading for coffee and the news. Have trouble sorting things out with the rush of news and feel that I am not even sure what privacy is anymore. Guess I’ll ask Wiki. What did I do before Wiki? Hope you all have a fine summer day. Someone whose name has slipped my mind once said or wrote  that the most beautiful words in the English language were “summer afternoon.”

  5. It’s 75 degrees here, heading to 90ish. Humid — we already went for a walk. And the gnats are out already.

Dinner last night with friends was lovely. The company was great and the food was, too. Turkey roasted with homemade basil pesto, roast asparagus and mushrooms, spinach salad with strawberries, Bartlett pears, walnuts, and Maytag blue cheese and homemade raspberry vinaigrette. Rhubarb cookies and vanilla ice cream for dessert.

Today we have nothing scheduled other than working out to try to knock off a few of those calories.

    Have a wonderful day!

although we aren’t predicted for any actual rain. The sun is coming out and should dry us up soon. At least we aren’t supposed to be getting triple digit heat yet. The recent rains have turned everything green, such a welcome sight.

Eating breakfast (black beans with rotel tomatoes & spinach, topped with avocado), drinking tea.

I brought my (surprisingly small) copy of the Complete Works of Shakespeare so I can re-read Much Ado before I go see the movie this evening. I’m so looking forward to this. I love all the actors and it sounds like such a cool idea. (the people in the Whedonverse apparently regularly get together on their days off from acting…. to do Shakespeare at Joss’ house)

So that’ll be my day: work, change into my “define interesting” t-shirt (it’s a line in Firefly), movie. And I just realized I forgot to leave my porch light on. Lucky it’s the longest day of the year & it should still be light at 8:30 when I get home.

and a happy first day of summer to all.

Left my phone at the office yesterday and didn’t notice it until I got home. Shame to admit that panic ensued but gradually turned into something that I wished I did more frequently.

Hope everyone has the kind of weekend they want to have.

I haven’t actually looked outside yet.

I’ve had a rough couple of nights after an equally rough few days in the wake of a confrontation at work which includes a NIMBY-type threat to my small charity.  I’m sure things will work out, but I’m having trouble turning the “problem-solving-for-real” part of my brain off enough to get to sleep, and achieve any real quality sleep.

The nutshell: a neighboring merchant doesn’t like our presence and engineered a confrontation with one of our clients as a pretext to threaten our shared landlord that it’s “them or us.”  Needless to say, if he has to kick one of us to curb, it ain’t going to be “them.”  I’m not as worried as I am a bit overwhelmed at the complications involved, and dealing with the conflicts and negotiations, etc., on top of my already heavy workload.  (Also, I’m catching some flak for being substantially over budget, but that’s manageable.  I just need to redouble my fundraising efforts.  Yeah.  “Just.”)

So…  deep breaths, a couple of cups of coffee, and once more into the breach.

The heat is here.  Supposed to get more and more humid as the day goes on.  This whole weekend is hot hot hot.

On tap for today:  haircut for my two year old, grocery shopping and splash park.   I am working tomorrow so that should be busy.

Have a great day and weekend everyone!

in the low 90s with a chance of isolated storms.  It’s so darn muggy here that I melt into a puddle if I spend any time outside.  Have to spend a couple of hours this morning at MU’s ophthalmology dept. getting a good going over.  My best hope is that my cataracts haven’t grown as I really don’t want that surgery.  Have a safe trip Iriti.

Already a gorgeous day here. Should be the warmest day this week, unless tomorrow surprises. I have a couple of errands on Haight Street that aren’t time-critical; I’ll decide later today whether I’m up for the walk or just plain in the mood, or not.

  13. Very slowly getting over the hantavirus. What a month. Food poisoning, start to get better, then hantavirus. Still real weak and shaky but at least keeping stuff down.

The house closes next Friday or the following Monday. Woo-Hoo!

Been doing a bit of art. This is called The Wizard’s Door. Now I have to figure out what to do with it in the story I’m writing.

Yesterdays fun with the grand girls included taking our son’s laptop in for repair thanks to a soft drink spill….oopsie!

They were quite somber as I had them carry it into the shop and explain what happened. Other than that we had a a nice rainy day together.

Time for the pool. I’ll have to take it easy again but I’m ready to be back in the 3 x’s a week routine.

After doing almost NOTHING until after 11, I finally stood up and got a few things done. One was to pick the turkey and get the carcass in to simmer.

    Next up, let’s make yogurt!

  16. The Grandboy has developed his first multi-word sentence.  He likes to give you something then when you give it back he says  thank you.  It’s like that kid was designed to make me love him.

So if you pour your water intake in a day through the Keurig does it count?

All this National Security talk made me remember when I openly criticized Barack Obama’s position wonder if anyone remembers?

Don’t usually put the UFO stuff up on the Moose don’t want to spook the herd : )

  17. No, I am still not a diva.

However, I did get the turkey carcass picked, made broth, have yogurt in fermenting, ran several errands, made a delightful dinner (for myself, not Jim) of PB&J on toast…

For such a slow start, including a nap in the morning of all things, I’ve managed to get a bunch done.
