Friday Coffee Hour: Check In and Hangout for all Moosekind

Good morning, Moosekind. TGIF! Don’t forget to let your peeps know where to find you.

**Disclaimer: I am not awake when I post these and there’s simply no telling what I might type or do. I try to draft them in advance but that doesn’t help me with my opening comment. Denise points out that I have wished all a “Happy Monday”. While of course I hope all your Mondays are happy, perhaps “Happy Friday” might have been a better fit this fine morning.

Friday Coffee Hour and check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

59 here, headed for a high of 57. Wait, what? Anyway, that’s what the weather app says so that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Running late this morning. Oversleeping FTW. Happy Monday!

Expect more rain today.Bullwinkle and I have had breakfast and are waiting for some light to come through the windows. We hope you all have a great day!

  3. (psst it’s Friday … please don’t whisk away the weekend … I have stuff to do!)

37 degrees here in Madison WI. Expected high of 65 and sunny. I am hoping the “sunny” means I can sit outside for a while and soak in some rays. Haven’t been outside for two days now.

    Need moar coffeeeeeeee!

35 degrees with an expected high of 55. I’m still doing the swing shifting thing, so I haven’t been around much. 15 days left!

Abernathy is willing me back to bed. Resistance is futile.

Trees are blowing around, the tiny patch of sky I can see is grayish. Looks like rain.

Yesterday I got up too late to have coffee before exercise class. Afterward I went to Trader Joe’s. Looked at package, 4 salmon burgers for $6.00. It took me five minutes to figure out how much they cost per each.

I slept like a log last night but today it will be extra coffee. I have actual paid work to do. ::Jill bustles around, feeling useful::

with boss…..  I have a doctor’s appt this afternoon.  It’s my first visit with this doctor – PA, internist – may be my primary care doctor…. anyway, first visit and I’m very nervous about it… my last doctor retired in Oct of ’11.  I’ve been to a doctor only once since to get prescription refills – that’s what I need now as well, but I’ve got issues to deal with and I now have insurance again.

It’s supposed to rain every night and taper off for scattered showers in the afternoon.  Up to 2 inches expected over the next 3 days.

the storm went around us last night so all we got was gusty winds carrying the usual grit but it did drop the temperatures to a more comfortable level. We have some clouds and there is rain forecast for today so there is still hope. At least we should stay in the 80s for the next couple of days.

Ah, summer in Texas. We had a weirdly long & cool spring, but now it is back to normal. Sigh.

But this is Friday before a 3-day weekend – yay! I was just looking at the work calendar & I was smart enough to ask for the day after the Danskin Iron Girl, but not the Friday before. Yes, it’s on a Sunday, blah blah blah, but I think I’m burning myself out here. If I ask off early on the Friday before, that gives me a 3-day work week next week. Yikes!!! the Danskin Iron Girl is when?????? And suddenly I’m no longer interested in breakfast.

Other race anxiety – the new owners of the race have posted cut off times. The Danskin never had any & this is actually contrary to the whole spirit of the Danskin. I get that the folks who run the Iron Man are different folks. But I purchased an entry to the Danskin. It has always been a challenge — I’ve been tha last finisher more than once. But the race this was before honored those of us from whom it is a struggle. This race wants to kick us out.

Course Cutoff Times Sprint Distance: 1/2 Mile Swim/12 Mile Bike/3 Mile Run

The following cut-off times for the event: Swim – 30 minutes Bike – 2 hours Run – 60 minutes

In my very best year ever, I never made the swim in 30 minutes. And this ain’t nowhere near my best year. Well, if they have to pull me off the course, they do — but I’m not quitting myself.

Anyway, I’m seriously thinking about taking next Friday off. Even just the afternoon — for a nap if nothing else.

And since I’ve been getting anxious about the race, I need to play City of Blinding Lights (the song that convinces me to do things (like ride up hills) that I know I can’t do) — I’ll just play it in my head, won’t foist the video on you.

  10. Sunny and windy and cool here, only 48 degrees and heading to high 60s. Actually should be quite pleasant.

Son is downstairs trying to corral his stuff, figuring out what he need/wants to take to Oklahoma. Later we need to go weigh the vehicles empty, load them, take them back and weigh them full. I am at his service…

As for me, I have a few windows to wash handprints and mouthprints from. I’ve done the sliding doors already, and they should have been the worst.

Jim is at work. Six more days including this one.

40 going up to 60.  Bright sun and crisp.  I think it is gorgeous today.  Taking my daughter for her kindergarten physical today, she’ll need vaccines but I go to the county for those because our insurance doesn’t cover vaccines.  Of course.

After her dr visit we are going to lunch with friends then home to play and do laundry.

Three day weekend will be cool and maybe rainy.  There is a BBQ festival in town this weekend, we have a party to go to in Madison on Sunday.

Tuesday our death trap deck gets removed and the patio will be done by the end of the week.  Fence in two weeks!  Then the big yard stuff is done.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

I am having internet problems so am working myself up to spending some time with my IP to see what’s going on.  Problem is not with the Mac; after spending about 1-1/2 hours with AppleCare, we could find no problem.  The critter is loading very slowly, especially any site with a lot of graphics.  Oh well…

a sign of my frugality or laziness.  I report; you decide.

It would be a shame to waste a drop of the coffee roasted and blended by Orthodox monks in Goldendale, Washington, from fair-trade beans.  They generously donate coffee to the Center where I work, and if there’s any left over, I scarf it up for a reheat the next morning.

Haven’t checked weather this morning, and should be finishing my rush to get out the door.  But, wanted to check in.

So, I’ll leave y’all with this, without even attempting a tie-in or segue:

    Another breezy day in store.

I spent yesterday afternoon with my friend Kim. We sat in her lovely garden soaking up sun and talking, completely protected from the gusty winds that were howling above. It was a treat.

I had to take a cab home because my train line was out of service. Cabs are expensive (this trip was $18), but it was worth it. And really, would I have been happy without something to complain about? 😉

  15. My niece is out and said that the radio is telling people to be careful because a bear has been seen around a mile from my house. I told Pixie no she can’t have him as a pet.

Still floating that we actually have an offer on the house. Closing should be on June 28th.

Saw my new primary care doctor yesterday and she said they are going to take good care of me. For the first time in over a year I actually have my arthritis medicine.

Since it is going to be hot and humid all weekend I devoting the weekend to getting new art up on my two sites and doing some PR over on Pinterest.

I have an annual membership which gets me in for “free” and I hardly make use of it. Plus, just across the way from the museum sits this wonderful fountain, donated to the park by William Randolph Hearst’s mother back in the 1920s. It’s one of my favorite things in the park. 🙂

We should have an interesting trip home tomorrow….the combo of Memorial Day Traffic, the annual Ski-to-Sea festival in Bellingham and the collapse of the Skagit River Bridge will pose a challenge.

Our current plan is to try to bypass the mess and drive home via Chuckanut Drive. It is a slow windy road but the views are lovely, so oh well!

The closure of Interstate 5 due to the bridge collapse will have a major impact….hope the R’s will start cooperating now re both state and national funds for repairs.

Weather (multiple days of storms) is starting to wear on me; fighting a sinus migraine.  Took real sudafed & a migraine pill, head feels a little cotton-y but not sharp & painful, so I guess that’s an improvement.  Having company over tomorrow for dinner, still debating what I want to make.  Narrowed it down to either a Ham or Spaghetti & Meatballs.  Need to get some cleaning done tonight, hoping I have energy after I get home from work & grocery shopping.

Oh, and I’m also useless in the mornings without my coffee.  My group at work knows not to talk to me until either I’ve initiated conversation or they see an empty coffee cup on my desk.

San Francisco Giants Jeremy Affeldt says SF transformed his negative feelings toward gays: ”There’s a chapter in there of me coming to San Francisco and being hesitant because I had homophobia, and now I don’t,” he said. ”I see more San Francisco as a city of love and a city of passion and compassion. It’s unbelievable this city. To see that and to have my heart change as a city I didn’t ever want to come to, to a city that I’m so thankful I’m going to be part of for a long time, it talks about that. For me, it was an awesome deal.”
