Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind. Don’t forget to let your peeps know where to find you.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

Happy Wednesday to ya! 54 degrees here, headed for a cloudy/rainy high of 70 so they say.

Posting early (but it is Wednesday everywhere in the lower 48) because I am awake now and do not necessarily have to be awake at 6 AM Eastern. I took the day off because I wanted to and due to a routine medical appointment smack in the middle of the day. As long as there are no needles involved I’m good.

  2. I hope you got back to sleep and that you enjoy your day off.

Make sure you check your doctor’s credentials:

49 degrees here on its way up to 78. Nose to the grindstone day. See you later!!

My lilacs will be blooming within a week.  I’m still watching the new bushes…. the jury is still out on a couple of them.  I’ve been kinda slow the previous mornings.  Mowed for the first time late yesterday.  Yard definitely looks better!!

Here in northern Virginia we’ve been getting some blessed, blessed rain.  The three rain barrels are full now.

My pink lilacs are fully out–a lovely sight! The white lilacs–abundant this year after years of doing nothing at all–are gorgeous.  The mauve lilacs are over but the purple ones are still seeing some action.

Unable to secure an appointment with either of my HMO’s dermatologists, I’m looking after my own little problems and trying to solve them.

The dog goes to “doggy play care” this morning for half a day of fun and companionship, I need to go to the gym for sure, and I really hope to be able to write today.  Didn’t manage it yesterday.

    Everyone have a good day!

going up to 72’ish with rain.

Rain is good.  We are going to have three days of it with a sunny weekend which will be great for my Mom’s Day gardening efforts.

and a bit sultry, we may get some rain today. Since it’s been three months since we’ve seen measurable moisture I’d sure like it. Grace had a good day yesterday even though it included a shower, she’s having longer peiods of calm every day. She has a sweet temperment I think although our old dog wouldn’t agree, the pup has not given up yet on getting some play going.

Weather’s back to normal – 60s this morning, mid 80s this evening. We have a chance of rain in the next few days, which is exciting. Not drought-busting (were still in a “severe” drought, but at least it’s not “exceptional” any more).

Working on not panicking about Saturday’s triathlon. Playing loud music in my head to drown out panicky thoughts. Weather in San Antonio for Saturday 30% chance of thunderstorms. hmmmmmm

rain moves in late this afternoon.  Rain all day tomorrow too.  Updated my MAC operating system yesterday and I need to figure out how to use all the new features.

NYC but the image of quantum cat has me smiling. Thanks. It’s 56 heading for the mid sixties. I am heading for physical therapy. Hope it’s a great day for all Meese and other four footed ones,

That cold I thought I was getting is actually just rip roaring allergies.  Generic Claritin and showers and saline spray are helpful but mostly I just want to rip my nose and eyes off.

Sixty going to upper seventies today.  Sunny and gorgeous.  We are gonna check out a new park today.  Plus, I need to do laundry.

    Have a great day.

This morning it’s just overcast, but last night the fog was a-blowin’ in like nobody’s business. A good friend (who used to be my downstairs neighbor) took me out to dinner across town in a very yuppie neighborhood, full of chic little bistros and watering holes. We both felt a little like visitors from another planet. A big contrast from our more earthy neighborhood.

We went to an upscale barbeque place (my friend is obsessed with slow-roasted meats) where I had what I must admit was a pretty succulent Texas-style brisket, with potato salad and cornbread on the side. Friend had the biggest plate of ribs I’ve ever seen.

On the table was an assortment of sauces; my favorite was a Carolina mustard sauce, but I tried and liked them all. It was a good hearty meal for a damp evening. I’m still full this morning!

After dinner I made my friend drive over to the nearby Arthur Conan Doyle House (pic at the link) as he’d never heard of it. While we were having a good look at the house a lady walked by with a very big and very friendly dog who we got to pet. Capped my evening perfectly. 🙂

You just can’t please some people. When we don’t get rain or snow, it’s “OMG! Teh drought! Teh drought!” Today they’re convinced everyone will be killed by mudslides, falling rocks, and flash floods. It reminds me of the drought pittiepat and I witnessed when we first moved to Colorado. The land east of the mountains was baked to a crisp, cattle were being sold off, and crops wouldn’t grow. So what was the reaction when we finally got rain? “Oh, nose! This rain will make things grow, more fuel for fires!”

What the hell is wrong with people?

  14. Really sick. Just back from Doctor. Good news not pneumonia. Bad news acute bronchitis with a severe flare-up of the C.O.P.D. The x-rays show scarring in the lungs, the diaphragm is weakened and not working properly, and a hiatal hernia. Plus a slight thoracic curve with degenerative change in the spine. In other words I feel lousy. A very strong antibiotic prescribed plus a cough syrup with codeine that my insurance won’t cover but I got any ways. Going back to bed.

So many sunny days in a row were making me twitchy….time for rain!

I’m off to the PT pool, then it’s Wednesday afternoon with the grand girls. Today the grand puppies (Heidi the black lab and Maggie the pom/poodle mix) will join the fun.
