Friday Coffee Hour: Check In and Hangout for all Moosekind

Good morning, Moosekind. Don’t forget to let your peeps know where to find you.

Friday Coffee Hour and check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

57 degrees here, heading for a high of 79 though I think it’s supposed to drop a few more degrees first.

I may be in and out; still battling the flu.

read this over your morning cuppa I’ll be zzzing.

Being a night owl most of you have been here and left by the time I’m up and awake enough to stop in so I usually just read.

Tonight I got so absorbed in quilting I lost track of time.

When I actually start the quilting process it’s like I am absorbed into an alternate universe. If the house caught fire I wouldn’t notice until the power supply to the machine was cut off.

This quilting venture tonight marks great progress in my spirits though. It’s the first time in the last ten days I’ve been able to go into my sewing room and not end up in tears over the fact it won’t be mine for much longer.

Guess I’ve processed enough of the sadness that I can just let myself enjoy it while I still have it.

Hope you get to feeling better soon, iriti.

Best wishes to all for a great TGIF.

  3. No FRIST this morning for me, obviously! Good morning/late night, iriti and meeses!

34 degrees in Madison WI. Leaving at noon and determined to get my to-do list to-done.

    :::waves to all the meeses:::

rain and later some kind of sleety stuff here.

I stayed up wayyyyy past my bedtime trying to push back against the BHO=Bush=Reagan +Goldwater (and worse) ravings of some folks.

A thankless and futile task. I got so upset with the Obama equals Goldwater crap I couldn’t sleep till hours later since I’m old and remember racist B. Goldwater and his design of the Southern Strategy holding hands with Tricky Dick Nixon all too well.

As I finally drifted off to sleep the teevee was talking at me to the sound of Laurence O’Donnell and I woke back up

I have no clue how to embed this 🙁

but it was interesting to me since people are screaming that BHO is some type of plot used to ensorcell us all with his false blackness since he is the only POTUS to ever mention any changes to SS (not that I think the R’s will buy his budget proposal – too much stuff in it that is good – for us) but the tone of the rhetoric has gone so far off the deep end I am alarmed…he’s a “boy” and “not black” and oh just so much stuff I have for the first time in years a massive headache.

I’m going to go rummage in the kitchen and find super strong Cuban coffee as a cure (I hope)

    Be back in a few.

34 degrees, I am very happy to report. The ice storm that was expected did not reach this far south. 6 miles up the road wasn’t as lucky. They ended up with the worst of it. The next few days will bring the flood.

  6. The coffee is hot and strong, sweetened a little, magical.

Last couple of weeks have been quite busy, lots of real people time, less online time. Probably a good mix. This weekend will largely be offline, with some outdoors time. Forecast is for 50ish, not warm, but the rain will be over.

Still working on my little churndash blocks. I’m almost at the point where they will go from being lots of little parts to being the 24 blocks I need.

iriti, I hope you get good rest today and feel better soon.

I forgot to move the feeder back last night. I’ve refilled the trays with clean cups and put the spice rack in the kitchen to wash. The thistle sock got wet. I’m hoping it will still be good when the sun dries it.

The rain ought to give the buds a jump start. I drove through a lot of trees on a couple of regular routes yesterday, so I’ll see how they look Monday. Can’t do it today, driving downtown on River Road and Canal Road. It will be nice to see the trees along the river.

Dreary is the right word for the weather here in Saint Charles.  We are done with the big rain but there are chances of rain daily through next Wednesday. We need it but a little sun would be nice.

the apartment.  Don’t know why the furnace refuses to put out heat so will call the landlord in a few minutes to come fix it.  It’s too darn chilly to take a shower and I’m wearing a blanket-weight bathrobe.  Good thing Keke has a fur coat…

with clear blue sunny skies and no wind. It’s cool right now and will be warming up shortly, should be a nice day for outside work. We’ve started cleaning the beds which is a big project. The ag agent here has convinced people to leave everything over the winter even though it looks messy because it protects the soil. We also compost so we work that in every year slowly trying to build some soil in our sand.

Cool and (mostly) clear out here this morning, as far as my caffeine-starved eyes can tell.

A happy Friday to you all.

After going to the PT pool I hope to be outdoors in the garden. We finally made the long overdue decisions to hire some help…a lawn service, a pruning service, and a strong young man. So now that the basics are being done I can focus on planting and being creative. I’ve got plans!

I went to a local seniors games day yesterday and plan to join this group. Here’s a sample of the activities from our community newspaper.

Has anyone here ever joined a group like that, especially for “seniors”? Did you like it?

  14. Keeping a sharp eye on the weather. Severe weather and possible tornadoes along the coast. I don’t think the danger is going to move this far inland but you never know.

The stress of losing Merlin has hit Pixie and she is throwing up. She does that everytime she gets upset. Trying to give her extra love.

Meantime I’m working hard on formatting the cookbook I want to get published. It keeps in the computer room so I don’t have to look at the empty couch.

The HOF is strong on the “other” site – it’s a good day to stay purple.  Hope somebody remembers why he created O-to-B in the first place and start channeling the anger to do some good.  As a person this effects profoundly (mcjoan’s graph yesterday afternoon could have had my name as the example – before you account for Medicare premiums automatically being deducted) I want to see Social Security and chained CPI pulled off the table so fast and so hard nobody dares put it on again and that isn’t going to happen if we waste time and energy screaming at each other.  (The one present the GOP would love more than destroying the safety net is to destroy the progressive movement.)  And that’s MY rant for the day.  Blessings on whoever invented Mooseland for providing a quiet and safe place to visit.  As usual, I won’t be online over the weekend, but {{{HUGS}}} to everybody.  Without you I’d probably be HOF myself.  b

…I don’t get around to it later today. I may just sleep because I got into an uncomfortable position last night that interfered with my rest.

That’s my excuse for napping today, LOL, and I’m sticking with it. ;-p

Anyway, it’s a fine overcast morning outside. They’re still tearing up the street in front of my building to replace aging infrastructure (in this case, gas utility pipelines), so it will be another noisy day hereabouts.

  17. However, it is not clear to me where the line is with regard to criticism of other websites. I have made a couple of pretty innocuous remarks and been scolded (gently) for it. So my confusion is reasonable, I think.

Thanks for any clarity on this.

My seat belt has once again rubbed my neck raw. I don’t want to go another spring and summer this way.

I need something as soft as rabbit fur to wrap around the seat belt and protect my neck. I don’t want to use real rabbit fur, there must be something else.

    Does anybody have any ideas?
