Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind. Don’t forget to let your peeps know where to find you.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

It’s OK if you prefer to remain anonymoose here. There’s an app for that.

Sorry for the re-run. Yesterday was a very busy day and I actually forgot to draft the diary. So a quick copy & paste this AM…but my heart is in the right place (left side of my chest, just where it’s supposed to be).

34 right now, headed for 46. This weekend forecast to hit the 60s and actually act like spring.

  2. 32 degrees in Madison WI, expected to get to 41 with some sun this afternoon. Time for some melting, please! I need my backyard for youth sports activities.

  3. Most of our snow is melted. It will be warmer today. Tonight I attend a talk on surviving extreme heat. Heat waves, drought, lack of water…what do they do to the body and how to avoid it.

Gotta finish the coffee and be on my way. Have a nice day.

  4. I can’t believe I made it to 65. Where did the years go?

So far on my birthday on the day I was born a tornado hit the other side of town. The big Alaskan earthquake occurred. And Mt. St. Helens woke up but didn’t explode until later. So I’m keeping an eye out on Mother Nature today. 😉

up to fifty in NYC. The radio is still playing Bach around the clock (now it’s Cantata 67), the coffee is on  so it’s a beautiful morning. Hope it’s a gorgeous day throughout all of Mooseland.

It is in the high 30s here, but the sun is shining. The birds are singing, so spring must be coming. Stormy is sitting my the back window watching the birds at the feeder.

    pink-dog-birthday

Have a wonderful day, and thanks for bringing color and imagination and beauty to our purple pasture!

  8. Jim just high-tailed it outta here. We can talk now…

Weather forecast: 50s by Saturday! That would be a nice change.

Day’s activity forecast: doc appt this morning; some sewing of the binding onto that bad quilt; sort more papers; address more commissioning invitations… That might be enough. If I finish the binding, I have a couple other sewing/quilting things to work on.

Son says his thesis is due Thursday so leave him alone… okey dokey…

No other news I can think of.

I’m having issues of getting out of my nice compfy bed in the morning without the dog demanding to be let out first thing the alarm goes off…..

Work is progressing well.  Have access to just about everything I need now.  I can remote in when needed now as well.

Now, if the headaches will just go away….

I promised myself that the next time it snows (hopefully not until next year) I will eat out pantry provisions and not leave the apartment until the last flake has melted and the temperature is above freezing.  Taking out the trash, I found a patch of black ice and confirmed, once again, that I no longer bounce well.  Buggered up my good knee but can get around okay, just really sore.  I’ll try going outside and down the stairs later today (very!) carefully.  Also confirms that becoming aged sucks!

and it’s not supposed to get hot today, merely pleasantly warm with not so much wind. The litigation over re-districting in Texas is still muddling along although I haven’t seen any news coverage. I follow it on a legal blog that has consistently had the best information and the lawyer who does it links to everything that has been filed so instead of someone’s summary you can read it for yourself. The problem remains that there are too many plaintiffs and it is all too easy for the state to divide and conquer, last year they split off one party by offering them a good deal and everyone else got screwed. I don’t have much hope that the plaintiffs will behave better this year either so the chances of us having actual representative districts is vanishingly small.

It was in the 40s overnight (hey, I’m a Texan – that’s cold to me!). Should get up to the 70s this afternoon.

I woke up early, but only a few minutes before the alarm, so that was ok. I wonder if the headache yesterday was because I’ve been taking melatonin for a few weeks & it’s probably time to switch off to valerian or something.

Slightly sore from the abs part of last night’s workout, but my feet are not worse. They’re not “fine”, but they’re not worse.

I voted for #innies in the question of what watchers of Chris Hayes’ new show should be. And I suggested pits & hummus for the snack, because there’s so many different ways you can do hummus.

Today: work, workout at the gym, then turn off brain & watch tv

and heading for the mid 50s!  I walked in the door to the phone ringing and before I was off the phone 2 people walked in – both only needed keys thankfully – and I’ve got over 50 emails to deal with already so I said, “Heck with it! I’m going to check in with the meese before I get started on this mess!” and here I am.  Only Ceiling Cat knows when I’ll get back to check comments, but I will sometime or other.  Hope the sun is shining wherever you are (at least in your heart if not in the sky – now there’s a strange mental image! heh).  Y’all take care and I will check back, Scout’s honor.

Yet another Texas weather report, 40 now but should scare 70.

I think this blog has all of Texas covered except for the valley? Hello Rio Grande Valley?

It’s grey here and mild (53°F). Rain on the way later in the week.

I slept almost normal hours last night, 1AM to 7:30. Will see if I can keep that up. 🙂

Also, heard from the physical therapist and she’s coming by on Thursday, for what I believe is the last time. So on Friday off comes the beard!

Given my oopsie yesterday I won’t attempt much more!

ps why is Easter so early this year and why is that making me grouchy?

  17. slksfca

…yet, not just since surgery but since this whole hip thing began over a year ago. I get around the apartment just fine (well, with the very occasional wobble) without crutches, and am only using them for balance outside. And last night I actually slept part of the night on my side (what relief!), with a big pillow tucked between my knees as per the P/T’s instructions.

So now it’s only a matter of little things, like remembering not to cross my legs or point my toes inward, being careful about bending over (no more than 90 degrees), and watching where I step. I feel like the big stuff is quickly receding into the past, and if these few rapid weeks are any indication, I’ll be feeling completely back to normal in the blink of an eye. Thanks for coming along with me on the journey, but from now on I’m hoping that my health will recede into the background of consciousness and that I’ll be able to find other things to write about.

Speaking of which, I’m starting to get the itch to diary again. It may be awhile before I actually DO, but I haven’t felt the slightest twinge in ages so this is a good sign. 🙂

So I’ve decided to be lazy and not take a walk today. Tomorrow I have to go out, to get prescriptions refilled. And Friday I think I’m meeting a friend or two at the neighborhood pub, so I’ll have an outing then, too. But today I’m staying comfy indoors.

Besides, I need to figure out what’s up with my wi-fi. Had to disconnect it awhile back because it began interfering with my DSL modem. Now I have a new Kindle Fire, the large screen model with HD (which I’m told is great for watching movies with), and I’m itching to get online with it and have some fun. 🙂

  19. slksfca

…over dinner. I’m having a Mongolian Beef dinner from the food bank that isn’t half bad, with a side of veggies. Next week I’ll be telling them that I no longer need their help with food, and I almost regret having to do so because the food is surprisingly good. But I can’t continue to ask for their help when I no longer need it.

Hope everyone has a pleasant evening!
