Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind. Don’t forget to let your peeps know where to find you.

For those of you still waiting Spring starts at 7:02 AM Eastern, 6:02 AM Central, 5:02 AM Mountain and 4:02 AM on the left coast. As I write this, it’s winter. By the time many of you read, spring will have sprung. For those still waiting…

But hang on!

And look out!

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

And now, on with the show!

Hooray. He made it safely home at too-sleepy-to-look-at-the-clock o’clock this morning.

40’s here today, then snow tomorrow.

  2. It is 10 degrees here in anticipation of spring at 6:02am RPT when it will be … checking Weather Channel desktop app … 9 degrees. Wait a minute!!! That is clearly the wrong direction. It will get to 20 degrees today.

Spring is a state of mind. Today at 1pm Central, I will welcome the spring with a holiday diary. Be there or be square!!

20 degrees here, with a wind chill of 5. At least it’s on the plus side! This week we will be around 15 degrees below the normal temperature.

I’m going on strike. No spring cleaning until it feels like spring.     😉

Fell asleep last night while watching TV and was out cold until midnight. Then I slept again until just now, when I awoke from the most beautiful dream. I won’t recite it because people’s dreams usually tend to bore other people, but it was beautiful and involved both flying (no plane, just me) and swimming in a gorgeous big river. I feel rested and refreshed, so here I am, at least for awhile. 🙂

Mild out right now (52°F) and rain is predicted today. Good, we need some to help bring us closer to “normal” for the season.

    Happy Wednesday, Moose-ites!

…from my Photobucket digging yesterday. Unlike the ones I posted yesterday, I did no digital editing on this one. It’s of Central Park Lake and I took it about 25 years ago on a fine summer afternoon. I love the tranquility in the midst of the big city. 🙂

  6. Knocked so much stuff off the list the last two days, today I can work on stuff that didn’t make it to the list!

We had fun with friends last night, a good antidote to … lots of stuff! including this not-spring weather.

Mr. Hourly chuckles at the notion of spring. It will be “blustery” today and in the 20s.

Jim and I have been playing with blogspot (him) and wordpress (both of us) to see where we’ll land. I think it will be wordpress.

    Coffee…

Oh, and YAY TRS made it home!!

my annual poem in NY dialect :

    Spring in the Bronx

    by anonymous

    Spring is sprung,

    Duh grass is riz;

I wonder where dem boidies is?

Dey say duh boid is on duh wing:

    But dat’s absoid!

Duh wing is on duh boid!

  8. real-world friend. It culminated with Matthew 10:14,

And whoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when you depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

And while this is one of those had-to-be-there stories, we both got a great laugh, a good way to start the morning.

Thirty-four degrees Fahrenheit on a clear but chilly morning here in northern Virginia.  Even the daffodils in the front yard are huddling together, it’s so cold.

What a weird weather pattern:  Monday morning we woke up to an inch of pretty, Valentine-lace snow.  Yesterday afternoon it was so mild and sunny that Dearly Beloved took Monty Beagle out for a much longer walk than usual.

Happy this morning because I finished the Ostara story, now need to get cracking on the birthday story for m’granddaughter.  I’m already well into Scene 2, just need to keep going.  I like plenty of “cooling off” time for my short stories so I can go back after a few days and say, “Landsakes, you can’t say that, you have write it this way.”  It’s funny how the old subconscious never stops working!

Busy day today–shopping, doctor visit, and I hope, the gym.  Everyone have a good day!

  10. As Melanie said, we had a fun small dinner party last night. Friend Ed, who lost his beloved wife nearly to cancer two yrs ago, was there in fine form. I taught with him several years until 2007. One other guest was Steve, who was a student of Ed’s back in the 60-70’s in high school. Interesting connections.

Gotta go dust off my shoes (Matthew 10:14) and head to work. Play well today. Be kind or else.

  11. Morning Meeses. Getting ready to take niece to work and then back on the computer to try and finish formatting the cookbook so I can try to find a publisher.

Currently on my art wall is Lights and Shadow.

I haven’t shaved since before the surgery, about three-and-a-half weeks ago, and I’m really getting the Grizzly Adams thing going on. I’ve really enjoyed not worrying about it but the time is coming for a decision: do I shave it all off or not? If not, I’ll need to do some trimming anyway, which I think would involve more fuss-work than just shaving clean. But I’m sorta liking the bearded me, even if the beard is a lot greyer than my lightly flecked head of brown hair.

Alas, I fear the beard will lose. I’d post a pic and let all of you decide for me, but then I’d feel guilty for going against your wishes. ;-p

bed where it’s nice and warm.  It’s 12F out there this morning.  I hope the tulips and daffodils that have started coming up make it.  “They” say it’s going to be colder tomorrow morning.

Work is going well so far.  The biggest problem will be remembering what all the form names mean, what they contain, and which type of thing they belong to.  I’ll get used to it eventually.  I was introduced to the ‘smallest’ process yesterday and it was pretty straight forward.

Get to wear jeans today – for the first day of spring.  Yeah, right… it’s too damned cold to be spring.

We got rain last night! Well, hail actually. And it was a fast-moving storm, so it didn’t really help the drought. The streets are still wet – I looked at the paper’s website for pictures but didn’t find any. I slept through it. Slept the whole night, only waking up at 4:30. Which is kinda annoying because that doesn’t leave enough tome to really get back to sleep. But at least it was only once. I think losing weight will help with this. My tri group starts next week, so I’ll have to exercise then. Tuesdays, at least.

Anyway, I’m eating my smoothie, reading yet another diet book & playing on the internet.

And conversing with a pastry plate. The @UpPastryPlate seems to watch the entire MSNBC feed all day long, is always commenting. Said, in response to somethng said on Morning Joe, that no one would believe a WMD story again. I replied that people still do believe the WMD story, and that one advantage to living in Texas is you hear all the good conspiracy theories.

tomorrow night and Friday.  Already out for a bite to eat, gassing up the buggy, getting groceries and cleaning out PetSmart.  I’ll be picking up the new kitty around noon today!  I think she’ll be torn between exploring and lap sitting.  Not going to let her have the run of the place for a while as it’s best to let her get used to her new home a bit at a time.

thanks iriti for the tip about avoiding screens/lights for the hour before sleeping since I tried it last night and slept really well. Most important I woke up in a reasonable mood-this is going to become a habit. We’re back to cooler weather which is probably too late for the fruit trees as most of them have bloomed out already. There is the slightest chance we won’t get another freeze and perhaps fruit this summer but I’m not counting on it.

…before I close the Photobucket tab I have open. This is one I took of my friend and traveling companion in Paris’s Tuileries Gardens, overlooking the Seine on a late October afternoon. It was our last day in Paris and we were both feeling slightly melancholy. This is one of my favorite pics I’ve ever taken. 🙂

but expecting to cloud up by the end of the day.  Quiet at work because no classes this week – which is what allows me to check in here 🙂 As to Spring or not Spring – the temps were in the 70s last Saturday and the pollen is already here.  (And I’m so-o-o-o-o glad Kelley told me where you guys are hiding out.  I’ve been worried since I got on the pooties diaries long enough to notice you weren’t there.)

…from a friend who is occasionally totally whackadoodle. This is one of those occasions.

We’d planned last night to go for a walk later this morning, and her first email apologized for bailing on me, saying that she was suffering from insomnia.

Then, fifteen minutes later, came another email in which she compiled a litany of other reasons why she couldn’t walk today, including both the weather and the infestation of her apartment by something called “cigarette beetles.”

This, mind you, from a woman who, when I missed a phone call from her last week due to being fast asleep napping, left me repeated voicemails and emails of a tone which indicated that she felt our friendship was DOOMED because I was purposefully ignoring her.

    ::sigh::

I’ve known her for thirty years now, and while she CAN be a lot of fun, she can also cause major headaches. I think I won’t mind walking alone today.

in my dreams. I typed out a tour of it in a comment but I lost it. Just as well.

It’s big, always the same but the events are different. I’ve been going there for years. It feels real and familiar, very detailed.

I wouldn’t be surprised to wake up there after things go dark in this world.

The first day of spring in Bellingham is windy and raining, but I know we’ll be visiting the tulip fields soon.

  22. The squirrels are running through the bare trees behind my house. While they play, I’ve been stitching the binding on a comfort quilt for a friend, and watching NCIS.
