QOTD: NOM chairman suggests Chief Justice Roberts’ choice to adopt kids is “second best” option

Quote of the day, from the Associated Press:

“You’re looking at what is the best course societywide to get you the optimal result in the widest variety of cases. That often is not open to people in individual cases. Certainly adoption in families headed, like Chief Roberts’ family is, by a heterosexual couple, is by far the second-best option,” said John Eastman, chairman of the National Organization for Marriage. Eastman also teaches law at Chapman University law school in Orange, Calif.

Because when you’re less than two weeks out from arguing cases related to marriage and raising children, the thing to do is viciously and cruelly insult the Chief Justice’s family, right?

    the error thing?

Posted the first time and it said it was unable to post. So I did it again. Then had 2-3 posts in the recent diaries. Weird.

    But anyway.

It doesn’t surprise me, of course, but it REALLY pisses me off. I hope my son never sees the quote.

My gorgeous, brilliant, funny, beloved son….

  3. David Boies Expects SCOTUS to Rule Against Prop 8

In a wide-ranging interview this week with the USA TODAY Editorial Board, attorney David Boies said he believes that the court’s ruling, expected in June, “will not be a 5-4 decision. I don’t know whether it’s going to be 6-3, it’s going to be 7-2,” he said. “I don’t know where it’s going to come out, but I don’t think this is going to be a 5-4 decision.”

Maybe NOM already knew they were screwed and are just trying to fundraise, although I am not sure what they are fundraising for. President Obama said in the ABC interview that he thinks that a SCOTUS ruling against Prop 8 will make it a lot harder for states to claim that their same-sex marriage bans are constitutional.

Maybe they just want to be mean?

can join the great Family of Janitors and live in substandard housing next to the schools they clean. What’s the problem?

but, I think people are missing the point.

Yes, this comment is not them slipping up. This is part and parcel of what they are.

If Justice Roberts’ adopting is “second-best”, what’s first? Pumping them out yourself. One of NOM’s biggest arguments is the marriage-is-for-babies one. They’re willing to grudgingly allow for infertile or past-fertility heteros to marry–because, if they didn’t, they’d be even more ludicrous than they are now–but they don’t particularly like it. Any hetero marriage that does not quickly result in basic, Christian, made-in-the-missionary-position offspring undercuts their whole argument.

So, yeah, this is as disgusting and repulsive as you’d expect from these scumbags. But it wasn’t a slip-up.
