Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

The Daily F Bomb, Saturday 1/19

Happy Sat– Cat– Fat? urday! (I always have a massive breakfast on Saturdays, so the latter certainly applies here.)

My nosiness knows no bounds! Today’s questions: Boxers or briefs or boxer briefs? Or for women: Granny panties, bikini briefs, butt floss, or one of those other fits? Who was the first live musical act you ever saw? What was the first play you ever saw (school plays don’t count)? What is your favorite Shakespeare play? What is your favorite cocktail? Whose poster did you have on the wall when you were a kid?

From the Twitterverse:

Now, on to the history lesson!

On This Day

In 1861, Georgia seceded from the Union, joining South Carolina, Florida, Mississippi, and Alabama.

In 1863, The first electric lighting system employing overhead wires, as built by Thomas Edison, went into operation at Roselle, New Jersey.

In 1920, The U.S. Senate voted against joining the League of Nations.

In 1935, a company called Coopers, Inc. began selling the first briefs, dubbed “The Jockey” because they claimed to provide the same support as a jockstrap. Thus the tighty-whitey was born!

In 1953, 71.7% of all U.S. televisions tuned in to watch Little Ricky’s birth on I Love Lucy.

In 1981, the United States and Iran signed an agreement paving the way for the release of 52 Americans held hostage for more than 14 months.

In 2001, in a deal sparing himself possible indictment, President Bill Clinton acknowledged for the first time making false statements under oath about Monica Lewinsky; he also surrendered his law license for five years.

In 2006, an unmanned NASA spacecraft, the “New Horizons” probe, blasted off on a 3 billion-mile journey to Pluto.

    No comment in the underwear.

Who was the first live musical act you ever saw? I saw the Kingsmen, the forerunner of Sha Na Na, when I was a freshman at Barnard/Columbia, some time in the 68-69 academic year.

What was the first play you ever saw (school plays don’t count)? We saw Lysistrata off-Broadway with the Latin Club when I was in high school.

What is your favorite Shakespeare play? The Tempest.

…(as recently as a couple years ago, hah!), I liked boxer-briefs. Nowadays it’s old-fashioned boxers, the baggier the better. Brooks Brothers makes the ultimate version of those, from a pattern that hasn’t changed in many decades. Plus they’re comfortable.

One of my very few luxuries nowadays! 🙂

  4. Via Chicago

Going to be a nice day today in Chicago. I swear I’m going to get out there for a run.

One problem with getting involved with neighborhood watch groups and community policing is you end up rubbing elbows with some unseemly characters, and I’m not talking about the criminals.  Getting out with the gen. pop. I’m finding out that racial profiling is still alive and well. I just told them all to knock it off, we’ll see how that flies.

Boxers or briefs or boxer briefs? Boxer briefs.

Granny panties, bikini briefs, butt floss, or one of those other fits? All good.

Who was the first live musical act you ever saw? Rush.

What was the first play you ever saw (school plays don’t count)?  First one I can remember is Jesus Christ, Superstar. (A revival, not the original.)

What is your favorite Shakespeare play? Hamlet. Only because I remember totally getting the 2b or not 2b the first time I heard it. Which didn’t normally happen for me.

What is your favorite cocktail?  I don’t drink anymore, but have great luck with asking bartenders to make an NA cocktail for me that tastes good. They like the challenge. In a restaurant, after the waiter relays the request, so often the bartender him/herself delivers the drink in person so they can explain in detail what they’ve made.

Whose poster did you have on the wall when you were a kid?  Psychedelic blacklight posters and a Farrah.

    Happy Saturday!

  5. Boxers or briefs or boxer briefs? Boxer-briefs typically, Hanro boxers with a suit. Go Hanro for the indulgences, last long enough the the price isn’t quite as outrageous as it looks.

Who was the first live musical act you ever saw? World Fest ’78, Chicago. Walter Eagen, Mahogany Rush, Foreigner, AC/DC and Aerosmith.

What was the first play you ever saw (school plays don’t count)? Cats, Toronto

What is your favorite Shakespeare play? The Taming of the Shrew

What is your favorite cocktail? Irish Coffee

Whose poster did you have on the wall when you were a kid? None.

That would be an outing to hear the Oregon Symphony in Portland in the very early ’60s. I can’t recall what was on the program, but I was very impressed indeed.

As for what most people regard as concerts, my first one of those was Frank Zappa and his Mothers, at Winterland in 1970. All I remember of that event is that it was noisy and there were clouds of oddly fragrant smoke…

  7. princesspat

And I’m lazy too! So as for your (nosy) questions…..mens’s undies, clean…..women’s undies, comfy….first act, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (1969?)….first play, can’t remember…Shakespeare, Midsummer Night’s Dream…..cocktail, pesky meds means none for me now but I remember gin and tonics and margaritas fondly….are there any more questions? I can’t remember, and I’ve scrolled to the top for the last time, Ha!

    Good morning Floja

…to get every single republican to support strict gun control legislation:

1.) liberal women purchase an AR-15, at least two semi-authomatic pistols, extended magazines for all three, a full suite of tactical gear, and a metric ton of ammunition.

2.) liberal women launch armed assaults on every Doctor/clinic in the country who refuses to provide an abortion and/or transvaginal probe.

    3.) ?????????

    4.) Victory!

Live music act: Prolly one of the bands that played at our school dances, otherwise- none.

First play: The Misadventures of Candide, performed by the National Theater of the Deaf. It was mesmerizing!
