Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

Yet another new moose!

Yes, yet another Kossack has joined the moose! Mooses!  But not Meeses (remember him?)

So I thought I’d introduce myself.

On the net I am mostly plf515. But I’m not a nony moose, and, if anyone cares, my RL name is Peter Flom.

Let’s see, introduction. There’s usually some biographical information:

Eyes: 2 of them. Both hazel. (Interesting that we only use “hazel” for eyes)

Sex and so on: Straight but not narrow.

Hair: Curly

Height: 5’7″

Weight: 190

Religion:

Aweist  but the God I don’t believe in is Jewish

Politics: My heart and mind are on the left wing of the Democratic party but my feet are firmly planted in reality. I’ve been active in politics pretty much my whole life.

Profession: Statistician and I am also attempting to do some work re Learning disabilities including working on a book to be titled “Screwed up somehow but not stupid” (it’s how my dad described me to his friends, 45 and 50 years ago).

Favorite topics to blog about: Books (I read a lot), elections, disabilities, quotations, jokes and lots more.

Things I believe:

We should vote for people based on what’s between their ears and in their hearts not what’s between their legs and in their beds.

No one should go to jail for putting something in his or her own body.

There are no categories of people.

Asking for rights for one group is like saying “your side of the boat is leaking”.

There is no Planet B.

Continuing to burn fossil fuel is group suicide.

Welcome! I remember you. This is a fun, laid back place. You can discuss the issues and disagree, but they taketh no crap – I like that here. Have fun, and I’m like kirbybruno – I’d love to see what are you reading here – although most of the stuff I’m reading these days is either woodworking or construction.

“No one should go to jail for putting something in his or her own body”

I plan on quoting you on that next weekend.

Amazing how punitive we are about choices.  I believe we should have resources available for anyone who feels they are addicted to a substance and have a desire to stop – but I also believe that if adults choose to use substances – that those substances should be available and taxed.

I’m a harm reduction purist (not the U.S. model)

I’m putting in another vote for WAYR here. Although I have been reading the same series of Scots mysteries for a while now. Life keeps screwing up my reading time!

Hmmm…maybe I should start a series called What Are You Streaming? Been watching a lot of Netflix lately 😉

  4. I will start by agreeing with this:

There are no categories of people.

…if for no other reason than it is the very heart of Moosehood.

We use tags all the time – necessarily, or we would never finish a sentence – but we cannot remind ourselves enough that they have only notional existence. “Democrat/Republican”, young/old, race, inclination… these all mean something in context and nothing in specific. Snowflakes have literally nothing on humans when it comes to diversity.

  5. Hey I remember you!  I’m starting to feel repetitive watching old friends come on down here.  But hey, how you doin? Nice to see ya again.
