is a downer. Not so much that he will be a great loss (though, he does not offend me and I REALLY admire his attempt to kick-start reform in our penal system)…but, more because I fear that it will mean a return of the odious George Allen.

I just am not convinced that there is currently a Virginia Democrat that can win statewide….perhaps, come ’12, there will still be Obama coattails…I’m just not overly confident.

    I can’t stand George Allen.

    /sigh

But talk to some of the 16 freshman lawmakers who have declined their government health benefits, and you’ll hear a different side of the story – about tough out-of-pocket expenses, pre-existing conditions and support for health reforms that would help those who struggle with their coverage. As they venture into the free market for health insurance, these lawmakers – many of whom swept into office fueled by tea party anger over the health care law – are facing monthly premiums of $1,200 and fears of double-digit rate hikes.

The experience has caused some of them to think harder about the “replace” part of the “repeal and replace” mantra the GOP has adopted regarding the health care law.

“I have a niece who has pre-existing conditions, and I worry about her if she was ever to lose her job,” said Florida Rep. Richard Nugent, one of the freshman lawmakers who declined federal health insurance benefits.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), the Tea Party star who has been eyeing a possible run for President, is now being badmouthed by an unusual source: Ron Carey, a former chairman of the Minnesota GOP — who also happens to be one of Bachmann’s many ex-chiefs of staff!

“While she passes the conservative test, my opinion from my association with her is she’s not going to be an electable candidate for us,” said Carey. “And even if she were elected I don’t believe she would be ready for the position of the president of the United States.” http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo…

Of course, that can be passed off as the mutterings of a disgruntled ex-employee.  Also, leave Michele alooooooooone!

prominently displays an image of the president as Erkel (however you spell his name) ~ that would be our African-American president.  The diary just below details the Orangeburg Massacre ~ that killed 3 African-American men for trying to go bowling.

The span of forty years condensed into a web page.  Just made me go, “hmmm.”

  5. The Deerfield Inn has put an offer on the table, and it gets me in the same local area that all my stuff is in, so the move to Rochester is a step closer.  Good place to gather up some cash and get ready for the leap there.  And it gets me back to Western Mass, and the food and folks that I love.
