CNN is reporting that the famously undisciplined campaign of John McCain, someone who during the course of the campaign frequently has been described as erratic, has lost control of Sarah Palin. McCain aides apparently consider her to be a “rogue” vice presidential candidate.
McCain campaign aides cite several instances where Palin has criticized the campaign and gone off message. The story notes that a McCain aides complains that “she appears to be looking out for herself more than the McCain campaign.” This aide said:
She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone. She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else. Also, she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: Divas trust only unto themselves, as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom.
Great. First, the Republican Party thrusts upon the United States a pathological gambler in the person of its presidential nominee, and then he selects for vice president a woman he cannot trust. Andrew Sullivan asks:
If McCain doesn’t trust her, why should anyone else?
All I can say is this: Barack Obama for president.
I don’t know if you will get this letter. I am not sure if anything is getting through anymore. The fighting has been bad and we have lost too many good soldiers over these past few months.
Brit has organized the EU nations against the terrible threat, and they are fighting the enemy effectively and very bravely. Brit has in fact sent his precious son into enemy lines.
I fear for my friend Stipes. I have not heard from him in so long. My greatest hope is that he is well. I had been worried about Canadian Gal, but I heard across the tubes that she is winning some major battles. Spacemanspiff, my brother in arms, has inflicted massive damage on the ground troops. All of my fellow warriors, Sricki, Ragekage
I have been interested in genealogy for years, have spent many years researching my own family and helping other people explore their family trees.
One of the myths about African-American genealogy is that their history stops, once you get back to 1865; that is is impossible to climb the brick wall of enslavement. At Afrigeneas we have helped thousands break through that brick wall.
I stumbled across a wonderful article and photo journal documenting Michelle Robinson Obama’s paternal roots which led back to the Friendfield Plantation in South Carolina.
The article, and photo gallery were in the Washington Post:
A Family Tree Rooted In American Soil:Michelle Obama Learns About Her Slave Ancestors, Herself and Her Country
Rasmussen reports this morning:
Obama 52
McCain 44
The numbers yesterday were 52-45, so today’s poll represents a one point gain in Obama’s margin over McCain. Rasmussen observes:
This eight point advantage matches Obama’s biggest lead of the year in a race that has been remarkably stable down the stretch. A week ago today, Obama was up by five. Two weeks ago, he was up by seven
When I think of the torment, the hate crimes, the wars and the genocide that exist in the world today, it is not hard for me to see what lies at the root of it all. I see the injustice imposed by the majority on those in the minority. I see the injury inflicted on the weak by the powerful. It is painful to think that to some, the idea of a difference in beliefs, a difference in opinion, a difference in ethnicity, is so intolerable that it is worth taking another human life.
More and more often, I find myself wondering…
How many lives could be saved?
How many brothers, daughters, mothers and husbands might still be alive…
… if we could all just learn to live and let live?
Bill McKibben, whose 1989 book “The End of Nature” was one of the first to warn of the threats of climate change, has helped launch a 90-second clip that puts the spotlight on global warming and where we need to be if human civilization is going to survive. The clip does not have words and it is assumed that this is because, global warming is a problem transcends language, culture and country.
Once upon a time, long ago, before industrialization, before coal-fired power plants spewed carbon dioxide into the atmosphere that’s precipitated climate change, there was a number. That number, 275, was the parts per million of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.
That’s right.
Greg Sargent over at TPM has the scoop:
John McCain’s Pennsylvania communications director told reporters in the state an incendiary version of the hoax story about the attack on a McCain volunteer well before the facts of the case were known or established — and even told reporters outright that the “B” carved into the victim’s cheek stood for “Barack,” according to multiple sources familiar with the discussions.
Pathetic.
The McCain spokesperson’s claims — which came in the midst of extraordinary and heated conversations late yesterday between the McCain campaign, local TV stations, and the Obama camp, as the early version of the story rocketed around the political world — is significant because it reveals a McCain official pushing a version of the story that was far more explosive than the available or confirmed facts permitted at the time.
Follow me for more, after the trip.
Here we go, folks:
“When I was face to face with him, my honest first impression was that I expected something more. I had heard so much about ‘his presence’ in the media that I was surprised to find that he seemed very average,” Mr. Wurzelbacher wrote in a live online chat on The Washington Times Web site.
“My gut feeling as he answered my questions? I was scared for America,” he wrote in response to a reader who asked “When you were face to face with Obama, what were you thinking and how did it feel?”
They’re back!!! It’s been eight years, can you believe it!!!
True!! Change!!
