Full text of Barack Obama’s Speech at Mile High Stadium (Invesco Field)

To Chairman Dean and my great friend Dick Durbin; and to all my fellow citizens of this great nation;

With profound gratitude and great humility, I accept your nomination for the presidency of the United States.

Let me express my thanks to the historic slate of candidates who accompanied me on this journey, and especially the one who traveled the farthest – a champion for working Americans and an inspiration to my daughters and to yours — Hillary Rodham Clinton.  To President Clinton, who last night made the case for change as only he can make it; to Ted Kennedy, who embodies the spirit of service; and to the next Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, I thank you. I am grateful to finish this journey with one of the finest statesmen of our time, a man at ease with everyone from world leaders to the conductors on the Amtrak train he still takes home every night.

To the love of my life, our next First Lady, Michelle Obama, and to Sasha and Malia – I love you so much, and I’m so proud of all of you.

A Few Key Quotes From Obama’s Acceptance Speech

The entire speech is excellent. His delivery was nearly flawless. There isn’t a politician in America who can match his speaking ability. The man is truly inspiring.

America, we are better than these last eight years. We are a better country than this.

It’s not because John McCain doesn’t care. It’s because John McCain doesn’t get it.

In Washington, they call this the Ownership Society, but what it really means is – you’re on your own.

Well it’s time for them to own their failure. It’s time for us to change America.

We must not let this moment pass us by

Tonight, August 28, 2008, Barack Obama gave his acceptance speech at Invesco Field in Denver, Colorado. This speech may well be ranked as one of the best speeches of the 21st Century.

Democrats are uniformly ecstatic about the speech. Republicans are trying desperately to give it a negative spin. Neither group really matters. What ultimately matters is what independents and undecided voters think of the speech. I can’t see how anyone could listen to that speech without being moved.

Even conservatives, like Andrew Sullivan were moved by the speech.

Great way to get good images for diaries

There is a video feed available from the DNC that you can view on your computer. The beauty of this hi-def video feed is that it allows you to do screencaptures of the available videos. I captured these four images and resized them in a few minutes. You won’t see any of these images in news articles.

How can you not love Rachel Maddow?

This woman is awesome. Her new show on MSNBC should be a huge success among progressive viewers. We are gaining a really strong voice for progressive politics.

I give Keith Olberman much credit for helping her get where she is on MSNBC. I view him as her mentor there. It says a lot about him that he isn’t threatened by such a strong-willed, intelligent woman.

Pat Buchanan is officialy in teh engels territory

So I’m watching MSNBC (of course) and all the heavyweights are on the air. Of course, the biggest heavyweight of them all (no pun intended) has to be Pat Buchanan.

Pat has become the crazy old uncle who you don’t take seriously but still listen to what he has to say for the comedy factor.

Pat is officialy in teh engels territory. A selfparody of such proportions that you can’t help but feel sorry for the guy. Everytime he opens his mouth I am just in awe of his wit and incredible insight on everything that has to do with the Democratic party.

I love me some Maddow and even she is laying off Pat. Rachel Maddow just wipes the floor with him every single time. It’s come to the point that I actually like him. His work as a surrogate is so pathetic now that he’s better than 10 Democratic strategists combined.

Pat Buchanan might be a racist tool but damnit, he’s TEH racist tool.

Anyways, don’t know if people are hanging out here tonight but if you are, consider this a Democratic Convention open thread…

P.S. It’s a Multi Vote Poll by the way….

The Day the Earth Stood Still

The fix is in, the die has been cast, the Democratic Vice Presidential Candidate has been chosen.

Many have wondered, many have guessed, many have spoken with authority.  But all were wrong.
