Friday Coffee Hour and check-in is an open thread and general social hour.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

…in the Shenandoah Valley. Headed down to 53 by morning, then back up to 79. Low humidity, sun, a beautiful day.

Saturday my daughter graduates from high school. I am mildly traumitized.

    Have a great weekend!

  2. It is now real morning, not like this, iriti (and bubbanomics!): “by: iriti @ Thu Jun 05, 2014 at 23:20:01 PM CDT“.

62 degrees here on its way up to 81 degrees and mostly sunny. Well, the first week of June started with May 33rd and has sadly not gotten any better. More unplanned things were done than planned things which means today will be spent emailing people about the missed deadlines. I was still optimistic until yesterday mid-morning when it became obvious that there was not enough time left in the week.

NOW … need moar coffee …

and am glad this week in over. It’s been very depressing – the demonization of a POW and another campus shooting with the D Day commemorations in the background. What has happened to us over the years? It’s heartbreaking. Here’s hoping for better days.

here. Today’s agenda involves making homemade weed killer to use on the patio and various other activities, such as picking peas. Splash party this afternoon for the two little cousins, if the weather holds and Dearly Beloved inflates the panda wading pool.

Have to tend bar over at Orange after breakfast this morning for the book discussion group. Feeling exhausted after keeping up with an active five-year-old and looking forward to the weekend. Hope to get some writing done on Saturday and Sunday. Also, the Belmont Stakes takes place tomorrow and there’s a Formula I race in Montreal on Sunday. The news is so depressing I would like to think about something pleasant.

Today is the anniversary of D-Day, of course. It’s one thing to be told about it through films and books, and another to stand on Pointe d’Hoc, noticing how the massive shell holes are now overgrown with smooth green grass, and stare at the gray concrete gun emplacements on the hill overlooking the beach. Gods, those men were brave! Long live their memory and their sacrifice.

    Everyone have a good day!

I doubt we see 70.  I’m still sleeping under a comforter with the windows open; now right at this moment, though.  Sam and Fran (and I) are outside taking in the fresh air where I should be weeding but am not.

Big plans for today are to start (and finish?) sewing curtains for the nine windows for the front porch.  Found the most fabulous fabric and got it all cut yesterday so now it is down to pinning and sewing.

I also have a confession to make.  Yesterday I put up a US flag and I did it for the wrong reason: I’m not so much showing any patriotism (hard to do right this second with the way Bergdahl is being treated by the “real” patriots) but I did it mainly because I like the way the colors look as a decoration.  My house is so white and monotone I need color and it looks very homey/small town.  I’m sure Keith Ablow would say I hate America.

Didn’t ride my bike to work. Will do something active tomorrow, though – they are opening a new part of the Town Lake trail – a walkway over the water for part where you used to have to walk along a very busy street. So I’m going to the grand opening tomorrow.

Weather: 70s to mid 90s. Can just copy & repeat for the rest of the month.

at least I can still get online with laptop

My pc has frozen – and can’t even control alt delete out of it

so will now spend the next hour watching them try to figger out what is causing the problem.

uncomfortable 73 is at 91% humidity – which it is right now.  Sigh.  And that’s at 73, summer’s not really here yet.  (I grew up in Houston – summer is upper 90s with 100+% humidity – and no air conditioning.  I think that would kill me now.)

The cat sanctuary will take Grey, but they are in Mena – a 6-hour round trip, 3 of which with a very unhappy cat in the car.  I’m checking one last time more locally and if no go, then hoping the sanctuary people might be making a trip closer in the next few days and we can do a midpoint meet-up.  I wish I could find the poor baby a person, he’s not yet a lap kitty but he’s showing evidence he could become one if given a chance.  At the sanctuary he will join a colony of FIV+ cats in an enclosure some 10x the size of my house and lot.  Oh well, he might like that better anyway.

It’s WalMart week – the actual annual meeting is today – the campus is running on minimal staffing. (Classes must be held, academic dept offices must be open, and “required services” must be available – otherwise take a vacation day and don’t come in.  Note I said “take a vacation day” – they want us to stay home to clear space for Walmartians, but not enough to pay for it.)  So I’m keeping the office open which to a large extent means being an information desk for lost Walmartians rather than actually getting any work done.

Anyway, Happy Friday in Moosylvania 🙂

I made some progress on my desk mess yesterday and was outdoors as well so I feel a bit better about my bad list.

If all goes as planned our boat may finally have a buyer! The papers are signed, the sea trial is at  11:00 this morning, Ron’s over his disappointment re the price, and we have just one last (crossing fingers) mechanics bill and monthly moorage to pay.

This will be the first time in over 30 yrs Ron hasn’t had a boat but when he offered to clean and wax our son’s kayak last night I started wondering how long being boat less will last.
