Tuesday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

seven and am feeling that I am already behind today’s schedule. But first coffee and the news. Crimea, Syria, Malaysia.  And then, of course, the Repubs. Hope it’s a good day in Mooseland and all your news is good.

At least the snow predicted for tomorrow is now rain.

One day soon it will be spring. Fingers crossed. 😉

Tomorrow, there’s this charity drive, Amplify Austin, and local charities get matches for donations, and charities that raise a lot get prizes. So I’m writing a diary today for the Ride. I hope our call volume is reasonable so I can get it done. But even interrupted a lot, 8 hours ought to be enough time. It’ll be a “what your donations do” one. What song should I use? It doesn’t have to be U2. (I also like REM, Snow Patrol, Michael Franti…. there are others….)

It’s chilly this morning – 40s, but supposed to be 80 this afternoon.

A 3rd person died from that damned drunk driver. If he doesn’t plead, if this goes to trial, they’re going to have to move it out of town.

My reward for the morning darkness is seeing the moon shinning in the kitchen window as I found my coffee cup. I forget it’s there, behind all the clouds.

This Hellebore is blooming in my garden just outside my sewing room window. I’ve been trying to take a photo but my creaky knees just won’t let me. So thank you Anne Welsh, via the Seattle Times

G’morning, meese! The news re Crimea, Venezuela, Syria, and everything else is so depressing one hates to keep up with it. Let us think about the approach of spring (what spring?) instead. It’s supposed to happen on Thursday at 12:57 p.m.

Didn’t have child care duty today as my son is taking my granddaughter to day care. Today will be a day of writing letters and thank-you notes, working on the birthday short story, and wearing out what’s left of my brain by thinking of a plot for the Beltane story.

Still much exercised over the missing aircraft. Did you know (this is something I learned only a couple of years ago) that the passengers aboard a flight are referred to as “souls,” even when all goes well with the flight and the plane lands where it’s supposed to? So now there are 239 lost souls somewhere. One always feels horrible when a plane crashes, but for it to disappear completely is deeply disturbing.

Back to the weather–there’s a lot of dripping going on outside. Perhaps all the snow will melt by the weekend.

Everyone stay warm and have a good day!

Let’s see – at the memorial last night (Election Commissioner died last week – solid Dem and honest as a summer day is long) one of the judges thanked me for my service on the QC saying I was a “voice of sanity on the Court” – OK, I’m feeling guilty enough for not running again, that was nice but it pushed the guilt button again (I laid the same guilt trip on my assumed successor – along the lines of this is what I did, don’t let me down); one of my sister’s called after I got home – seems one of my uncles died of a heart attack over the weekend and the memorial is going to be on her birthday Friday, also her husband has prostate cancer which they plan to surgically remove sometime in the near future; the Chair is in surgery today and apparently from the tenor of his emails trying to run the office while under anesthetic.  There’s more but I think that will do for a check-in diary.  {{{HUGS}}} to all Moosylvanians.  bf

heap o’ grading to get done today, plus a proposal that’s gotta get out the door soon.   Hope everyone has a good day.

  8. The weather is entirely too boring in S. Cal beautiful day 84 degrees yadda yadda.

I just wanted to poke my head in here and say I’m still around.  Grandboy just had his 2nd birthday, and Grandboy 2 is halfway through and I can’t wait to meet him in July.
