Tuesday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

    today here in Saugerties NY.

    19 degrees.

Could not even get into my office yesterday on campus – had to sit in my car for two hours during my break- they never shoveled the path to the house where my office is located.

Students told me it was horrible on campus over the weekend – almost no snow removal.

I don’t blame the maintenance people – their staff was severely cut back by our state house and Gov.

On the way home watched a line of dump trucks heading over to the Hudson River, loaded to the top with snow/ice…we still have piles by the side of the road over 6 feet tall.

When this starts to melt it will be back to major local flooding – our county (Ulster) has had several bad years in a row with disaster level floods.

here in NoVa. Current temperature is 29 F. but it’s going up to 46 F. today! We’ll have another Something coming through later in the week but it will be rain, not snow. So in this regard we’re better off than  Denise, in New York and Jan in Wisconsin. Will this winter never end?

Had a good day yesterday, finally got some work done. Was enthralled by the free dance on the Olympic ice skating last night. The best pair won the gold, I’m glad to say–Charlie White and Meryl Davis were a joy to watch. But then, so were the Canadians and the other competitors.

Tonight is a Fish Night, which means I’ll have to think of something for dinner. It would be so much easier to be vegetarian–I’d cook a huge pot of black beans on Sunday and eat them all through the week. Oh, well.

If I get a break this afternoon I want to come back and graze among some of the Moose diaries I see on the Home Page. Right now I have to cook an illegal breakfast. I mean, it’s a Tuesday but Dearly will be getting a Sunday breakfast because as a rule I’m not here at breakfast time.

Everyone stay warm and have a good day!

Warm enough for sandals – for which my feet are grateful. I’ve got 2 blisters on one foot, so I’m not putting on enclosed shoes till maybe Thursday. Still somewhat sore – feet not thrilled, but not screaming, either.

I’m drinking that tumeric drink, had an apple, will start on my tea soon (I’m doing a modified cleanse – not cutting out the caffeine). Today’s goal is to stay awake, surprisingly enough, I’m still tired.

a rainy NY.It’s 19 now but will be 40 before night falls. That means slush, puddles and rubber boots.Hope it’s a good day for all meese and all the ailing are feeling much better.

but the sun is shining, I got to walk home yesterday and looks like I can do it again today, so I will enjoy it while we’ve got it.  Not going to get actually cold (below 50) for the rest of February.  Brigid did her work well 🙂 That isn’t to say we won’t get a few more cold snaps before we start working our way to uncomfortably (hopefully not fatally) hot for the year, probably a few more hard freezes so I hope the warmth we’re getting right now doesn’t wake up the fruit trees.

Good health/healing to all in Mooselandia.  {{{HUGS}}} bf

Reading about all the snow makes me grateful for the grey and wet PNW weather. The moss is growing on all the rocks and paving stones in my garden…a beautiful welcome green.

Ron is continuing to improve and I’m starting to resume the basement cleanup project I started last fall. Today my friend is coming to take several bolts of fabric to her drapery workroom so the curtains I’m never going to sew will finally get done. And I’ve found a business that recycles textiles so when I’m ready they will pick up. Feels good to finally be able to let some things go!
