Interrogatories

Who or what do you nominate for most absurd for today’s National Absurdity Day?

Have you named your PC (or Mac or whatever you have)? What is it? Have you named any other devices or household appliances?

Have you named your car? (I thought of a really personal one I could ask the guys, but I politely refrained.)

What company do you use for your phone? Cable? How awful are they?

Have you ever had an out of body experience?

On This Day

In 1789, New Jersey was ratified the Bill of Rights, the first state to do so.

In 1820, it is said that an 80-ton sperm whale attacked and destroyed the whaling ship Essex 2,000 miles from the west coast of South America. The story was partial inspiration for Melville’s Moby Dick.

In 1945, the Nuremberg trials began.

In 1947, then-Princess Elizabeth married Philip Mountbatten at Westminster Abbey, which was broadcast on BBC radio to 200 million listeners. She used ration coupons to buy the fabric for her dress.

In 1962,  in response to the Soviet Union agreeing to remove its missiles, President  Kennedy ended the quarantine on Cuba, ending the Cuban Missile Crisis.

In 1969, the Cleveland Plain Dealer published graphic photographs of the dead villagers from the My Lai massacre.

In 1974, the Department of Justice filed an anti-trust suit against AT&T Corporation, ultimately leading to the breakup of AT&T and its Bell System (which sometimes appears to be trying to re-form).

In 1985, Microsoft released Windows 1.0. You bought it, right?

Who or what do you nominate for most absurd for today’s National Absurdity Day?

Have you named your PC (or Mac or whatever you have)? What is it? Have you named any other devices or household appliances?

Have you named your car? (I thought of a really personal one I could ask the guys, but I politely refrained.)

What company do you use for your phone? Cable? How awful are they?

Have you ever had an out of body experience?

I happened to hear a couple of quotes from Michele Bachmann yesterday that put her at the top of the absurdity list.

All computers have names, yes?  Pet names, no.  I had a girlfriend in college who named my car Alexis.  She didn’t name anything else, but my dad’s preferred name for them was Johnny.

AT&T for phone and Comcast for cable.  Haven’t had any particular problems.

An out of body experience being a sense of observing one’s body from outside?  Or what?  During my last cold, my cough was so bad, I think I almost(?) passed out a couple of times.  😉

The entire Republican Media Parade is absurd. They make up the silliest crap to blame Obama (or women, or poor people, or people of color). Wars on Christmas (under God, even) and flag pins and census fudging and birth certificates… The Onion might as well cash it in. Almost everything they post now seems way too likely.

I’ve never named any of my stuff. I call it by what it is (or thingamajig and gizmo when I am feeling befuddled).

I asked the car question a while ago, oops. I don’t have one. I might actually name one if I had it. I call my bus “the 780.” That other thing? Well, I do know guys who named theirs, but I won’t go into that subject just now.

I am stuck with Time Warner. They suck, but after the previous Adelphia experience, they are actually wonderful in comparison. They have my internet, too, and they are MILES better than Earthlink. Outsourcing the help desk to a clerk in India who follows a script is not good customer service. TW at least gets a 50/50 chance of someone who can actually help. But – EXPENSIVE!

I had an experience once, it could have been a dream, where I felt this rushing in my ears, and then looked down on myself sleeping in bed. That was all. I made myself open my eyes (not that easy) and then everything was properly oriented once again.

My Dad isn’t “testing” you, He’s fucking with you. There’s a difference.

    – Jesus Christ

Wonder if that knowledge would have made my mom feel better or worse?  She was always worried about whether she was passing of failing “the test.”

Was MIA for a while; got sick at the end of last week.  Still not 100% but feeling better.

    Q&A:

Who or what do you nominate for most absurd for today’s National Absurdity Day?  The Republicans

Have you named your PC (or Mac or whatever you have)? What is it? Have you named any other devices or household appliances?  Yes – PC is named “Detritus” (after the character in Pratchett’s Discworld series) because the case is this big monster of a beast.

Have you named your car? (I thought of a really personal one I could ask the guys, but I politely refrained.)  Yep.  Car is named Black Beauty because it’s a black Elantra and I was happy to be rid of my Insight.

What company do you use for your phone? Cable? How awful are they?  Phone is Verizon, they’re Meh.  Don’t have Cable, but have Internet; use Cablevision.  Speed is good, service is OK if you reach the right person.

Have you ever had an out of body experience?  Not that I can recall at the moment.

Good day……I had the early morning shift with the grand girls today, so I’m late reading the moose. Noah and his sister Amy opened for OTH on Sunday night.
