Saturday All Day Check-in for the Herd: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Let the greetings begin!

56 here in the Shenandoah Valley, headed for a high of 82.

I’m home, hooray, after a week on Long Island. Had a very productive but brain-frying week. Gonna head out momentarily for a hike with our local hiking club to decompress.

You’ll never guess what I have: A good old fashioned PDA. Due to security around a lot of high profile or best-selling titles in production, the place where I work frequently has cell phone bans – you can’t bring a camera in and cell phones usually = camera. So I figured what the heck and have resurrected the old technology. I feel so last century!

  2. Watch out, Bay Area peeps!! San Francisco Under Emergency As Fire Threatens Power, Water

A wildfire that has spread into Yosemite National Park is now threatening the power grid that supplies San Francisco, prompting Gov. Jerry Brown to declare an emergency for the city.

The 200-square-mile Rim Fire also threatens thousands of homes and has forced the evacuations of hundreds.

Bob Hensley, reporting for NPR, says that in issuing the state of emergency for the city of San Francisco and San Francisco County late Friday, Brown indicated the wildfire has damaged the electrical infrastructure in the Yosemite Valley that provides power to the Bay Area 150 miles to the west.

going to the great basin fiber arts festival today.

this means they have independent alpaca growers and small batches of fancy yarn.  spinning, weaving, knitting demos and classes.

they probably need a better name and might need a better web site.

  4. Another lovely day in Southern California.

Been having a great time this week watching the Nova in Delphinus and of course playing with the grandboy.  He’s grabbing control of language and getting to the size where his head is doorknob clocking height.  Great times.  If I could trust the color would work on my skin I’d tatoo these eyes on my back.

The seedpods on the old maple trees are beginning to turn color and the breeze  from the open window has the feel of fall. It’s time to remove the spent summer flowers from the container plantings and replace them with asters and mums.

We were going to go out and see a few more sights today, but the city is thronged with people here for the MLK anniversary. Went on a four hour bus tour (the monument tour) last night, and I am still tired from that.

  7. Sorry I haven’t been around lately. I have been swamped trying to get things ready to move my brother out here. I’m going through moving offers now and still need to get bids to move the car. We are aiming for the moving companies coming on September 16th so I am hustling to get things tied down.

Took a break and did a little artwork called Powerful.
