Tuesday Morning Herd Check-in: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least content.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

You can follow the daily moosetrails here: Motley Moose Recent Comments.

Let the greetings begin!

39 degrees with an expected high of 67. Looks like my last week in Michigan will be the high 60’s all the way. I had a nice little fire last night. Still not sleeping. One of these nights I will fall asleep. I will not nap until I do.

    An earworm for dear JanFab….

  2. It’s about 56 degrees here, heading to about 70.

Jim has a lunch scheduled today with his co-workers. Friday is his last day. YAY!!!

Yesterday we made rhubarb custard pie. Jim made the filling using my Grandma Brown’s recipe. I made the crust using a recipe I found online.

If it weren’t for the photos, I would have thought I was doing everything wrong. But it came together and made a lovely crust, light, tender, and flaky!

I never made a crust before, so for sure this was the best crust I ever made!

And the whole thing is wonderful, definitely something to do again. It reminds me of making my own frosting instead of using canned — once I made it myself and knew the difference and how easy it is to make, I’ve rarely used canned since.

blooming a pretty pink flower.  Some are growing quite a bit, others are still establishing themselves.  My iris are in full bloom.  Day lillies haven’t started yet.

Back is feeling better, right arm is still iffy…

The boss has effectively targeted co-worker.  She knows too much of his history…. (which she’s shared with me and she was really wondering if her badge was going to work yesterday morning).  With some of what’s happened when I’ve submitted emails, I foresee some issues as well.  Last week, I sent an email with some items that I knew work needed to be done on and asked what my priorities should be.  I’m still waiting for a reply.  It’s not up to K to manage my work load that’s the boss’s job….

Simultaneously half asleep and hard at work this fine morning. Hope you are all doing spiffily.

but it seems high for this early in June.  It’s 57ยบ F now, and the sun ain’t up yet, so 90 seems possible.

Well, time to see if I can run a razor over my face without drawing blood.  Wishin’ a great Tuesday for everyone.

it’s going to be a hot one today. Not a problem for me but for the people who don’t think they need to drink water it can be serious. And there’s always some who get hauled off to the hospital before they understand. In the words of one 19th century immigrant-of all the things that want to kill you in Texas never forget the weather.

just a half-day, no backpack for son.

    warm and sunny.

2nd to last baseball game tonight for son.

    happy tuesday to all!

Mid seventies today.  Clouding up as day progresses.  Rain tonight and tomorrow.  We don’t need more rain.  Finally got my drivers license with our new address so we can join the library now.  My kids have been missing their special books.  I am a bit tired of the books we have so I’m excited.

    Have a great day.

  9. Feeling a little better after this bout of food poisoning.

I have a picture for those of you heading towards Colorado. I graduated from college there and lived there a couple years after I was married. Love the State.

The picture is called Listen to the Quiet.

There’s a statue of a moose in some CO town, and an amorous young male moose has fallen in love with it. If I can find photos or video, I’ll post them. Cute!

  11. 1) dryer sheets supposedly keep gnats away.

    2) if you want to save old bananas to make bread or cake, just put them in the freezer, peels and all. Once they thaw and are peeled, they’re already mashed.

    since early getting writing done.

Phew – finished – now headed out to pick up hubby’s car from the shop. Whopping big “up-keep repair” bill but no way to dodge it.

    Sigh.

Have a good day – seeya later!

My shoulder is actually glitchy, so with my un-ergonomic desk set up, writing would actually hurt. I got a chair massage the day before the race, have been taking muscle relaxers at bed time….. I’ll see if my acupuncturist has an opening today.

Anyway – June in Texas. It is hot, and going to get hotter.

The power cord on my Mac seems to have given out. When my brother handed it down to me, it had been chewed, but it still worked. Yesterday, it told me it was running on reserve battery even though it is plugged in, then shut down. So I’m going to Best Buy, to get a cord.

Tech advice needed – I put a bunch of songs from iTunes, a mixture of purchased & ones from CDs. My car has a usb port, I plugged it in and it plays about half of them. When I plug the drive into a computer, I can see the songs are on it. Any thoughts on what I did wrong?

for khloe, iriti, trs (and Kelley, of course) is the best I can think of through this migraine.

Last night I mostly kept my mouth shut and my head turned away so the UN-agenda 21 CT nutjobs couldn’t see my expression – there’s no reasoning with these people, they wouldn’t know reason if it bit them on the nose – a tactic that had them asking me why I wasn’t paying attention to the presenter and video.  I just told them I had a migraine and the lights were bothering my eye – but they didn’t really believe it since I’d voted against their resolution to revoke the federal “Blueway” designation of the White River (“it’s a government land grab”).  Tonight will be better – just nimbys, not nutjobs.  Oh well, back to work on the Annual Report.  {{{HUGS}}} bf

I’m ready to be not still sick! I can cough today, as opposed to barely breathe though…..so I guess that’s progress!

I’d best err on being quiet today…..I can tell some serious whining is about to commence.

I hope everyone has a fabulous Tuesday. After resting yesterday I’m ready to get out and do some walking today. Hope the weather cooperates — but I’ll be out in it even if this fog decides to stick around.

    Damn hormones don’t help either…

Shoulder hurting enough that it’s hard to type or use mouse now… have appt for tomorrow morning.

I’m taking my daughter to get her ears pierced today. It will be a surprise and part of her birthday present. She has been asking for at least 3 years, she shows enough responsibility in taking care of her body, and she has even managed not to lose her glasses since we got them last summer.
