Motley Monday Check in and Mooselaneous Musings

Good morning Motley Meese! Hope your weekend was lovely. Remember to let your peeps know where you are!

This week’s shot of the week was taken at Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park. Because I thought it was cool, mostly. (It’s not a Moose! Look at the antlers. Besides you can’t hunt there so I’m sure it died of natural causes or a long time ago.)

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

64 degrees, headed for a high of 79.

Only 4 more days until my vacation, Woohoo! Going to see Khloe and then Nursie, with a stop-off in between to visit with other friends met on-line. Very excited and having a hard time getting motivated for work this week.

in the Hudson Valley of NY.  Poured here with some flooding yesterday.  Thunderstorms and power outages.

so glad I have the generators.

Off to take the car in for the 90,000 mile thingee, then to the dreaded dentist.

Today is hubby’s birthday and he is celebrating it with a trip to the dentist – lol.

Sounds like you are going to have a great vacation Iriti!

35 degrees with an expected high of 66. Yesterday I did my very best to keep myself awake. I did take a short nap, but not a full sleep. Last night I tried to sleep. That didn’t work out so well. Today, I will get some melatonin. I need to adjust my sleep schedule by Saturday.

  5. Going to meet a friend for coffee this morning. He and I taught and worked together the past 21 yrs. You might know him as janislav on l’orange.

Later, comes some exercise as I try to stay fit. This week I might even cut down some of the dead tree in the front yard. Our ornamental pear succumbed.

chilly this morning with expected high of 70 this afternoon.  Had trouble getting to sleep last night due to sore back and right shoulder…..

  7. local all-black cat again last night. We were watching teevee and someone starting yelling outside. I looked out and there he was. He is long and low, short legs it seemed, and he seemed annoyed by the grass tickling his belly as he walked through the yard. I knocked on the window a couple of times to get his attention. Most of the cats startle a little and look up, but he didn’t seem to notice. Perhaps a hearing problem, or maybe just immersed in his own thoughts…

I stayed up too late last night, and am not sure there’s enough coffee in the world to make me feel human.  It’s a good thing nobody was around to hear what I uttered when the alarm went off.  Would have blown my image entirely.

Today’s our monthly Requiem at the Center, then I have the rest of the day off.  I have to do laundry, and some yard work, then plan to laze the rest of the day away.

Best wishes for a great day to all my fellow Mooselandians.

We had lots of rain yesterday afternoon.  However, here in the “tri-state” area, they only measure the precip. at airports. According to the airports in DC, Maryland, and Virginia, we’re three inches under for the year, while my rainbarrels are so full the runoff hoses have been activated, the grass is as green as Easter, etc., etc.

Quiet Monday planned–hope to do some writing and go to the gym. Can’t take Monty for a walk, it’s too wet. I really hope he loses weight with the new feed I’m giving him–the guy at doggy play care told me it might take two or three months for Monty to shed those pounds.

These are Monty’s last few days of being a “whole” dog.  He’s going to have The Operation on Thursday, poor little thing.  But it has to be done. Hope he’s not going to feel too miserable afterwards.

    THE SUN IS OUT!!!!!!!

I think it has been a week since we have had a sunny day.  Should be a good one.  Sunny and sixty eight.  Tomorrow sunny and seventies.  Makes for good swingset playing for my kids.  It took my husband and my dad eight hours to put that thing together yesterday but it is awesome.

Today the patio guy comes back to lay sod (it was too wet to cut sod last week so nobody had any).  My husband goes to the dentist after work and we are going OUTSIDE.  Maybe all day long.  Have a great day.

So there were thunderstorms yesterday morning. Lots of rain, lightning, etc. Got out to the race site, transition wasn’t open but there wasn’t any word. Oh — and it was cold. Probably not what you northerners would call cold, but in a tri suit, temps in the 60s are a bit chilly (I’m just guessing, no idea what the temp was)

So the storm finally passed, but the said the water was too choppy, and they made it a bike-run. They started us off time-trial style, waiting 10 seconds between each rider (in case anyone fell, there wouldn’t be a pack).

I rode the whole course – made it up several places I normally walked. Walked the 4 worst hills. There’s one where there’s a sharp right turn (so you have to basically stop) & an immediate steep hill. But — I rode all the way up the hill I call the highway hill. It’s the feeder road going up to an overpass/intersection. I think maybe I’ve made it up that damn thing once before without walking. And today I did it.

Before the race, I started talking to one of the volunteers. It turns out she was my swim angel last year. (The Danskin had a team of volunteers who help those of us who are….. less than good at the swim. Those of us who really suck at it would actually get our own volunteer, who would swim with us the whole way – a swim angel). Anyway — she had said that she wanted to swim with me again this year, and when they said they were dropping the swim, she said she’d meet me at the end of the bike & walk the 5K with me. So she did.

Walked the 5K, it was hard. But there’s a hill on it that I think I’ve always stopped on, and I didn’t today. It’s way at the end, before you come out where you can see the finish. It is looooong, just really long. So here are pics:

I know it’s not exactly on target, but it’s close.  Need to get to work on the annual report and start the process for Spring 14 classes lucky me – QC committee meeting tonight and first hearing for new cell tower tomorrow (the opposition lawyered up and is busily pretending our small DIY county planning office is a mongo-huge corporate-owned outsourcing-to-corporate shills boondoggle as seen at the federal and sometimes state level).  Everybody wants cell coverage.  Everybody wants 911 coverage.  Everybody wants it to be magic and not require cell towers.  Sigh.  {{{HUGS}}} to all in Moosopotania.

  14. Those going on vacation say hi to Nurse Kelly for me. If you are ever on vacation in North Carolina stop by and I’ll make some of my famous triple ginger cookies.

Still trying to get over what I’m pretty sure now is food poisoning. Note to self if you are hungry just wait until you get home don’t grab a hot dog. Going back to bed for a while.

The picture is called “The Eye of God.”

…I can tell it was foggy earlier. There’s still fog rushing through the Golden Gate just to the north of here, but it’s pretty much gone away directly overhead.

Slept in late after a busy day. My friend and I had Sunday brunch yesterday on Castro Street. We also had some very large Bellinis. After that we walked around, sat in the sunshine in a public parklet, and stopped in a couple of bars with outdoor patios for more drinks. It was fun and only moderately tiring. I feel like I’m starting to come back to life at last. 🙂

I’m still sick, but finally on the getting better side of the journey. Six more days of antibiotics though…while I’m grateful for the meds managing the side effects is yet another challenge. Oh well, I can breathe again and that’s most welcome.

in beautiful south Sacto already, but it’s going to get hot again to where the ink on my tattoos will melt. I do not like the hot weather at all. Instead, I will bask in the AC with the cats and dogs.

I’m hoping this n-th cup of coffee will help get me more motivated to get up and moving. Even though it’s not a very warm day, there’s sunshine outside!
