Especially very placid lakes in the early morning, preferably with little wisps of mist rising up from the water, but also in full afternoon sunshine.

Or at night, with the garden lanterns of resorts and vacation cabins twinkling through the trees and reflected on the surface of the lake.

  2. Oceans, lakes, or rivers (best bodies of water)?

I guess rivers. But they’re all nice

How long does it take you to get ready to go out?

Dressed up (i.e a suit and tie) maybe 20 minutes.

What is your favorite war movie?

    Patton

When you die, do you want to be buried or cremated?

I’ve signed my organ donor card. ‘Cause I’m pro-life, doncha know? Let them take everything they can use, then they can burn the rest.

How do you make the perfect hamburger (or veggie burger)?

I go to a good restaurant and ask for a burger!

How long does it take you to get ready to go out? 10 – 15 minutes

What is your favorite war movie? Casablanca

When you die, do you want to be buried or cremated? Cremated and my ashes strewn over the ocean.

How do you make the perfect hamburger (or veggie burger)? A little Panko, teriyaki sauce, fine minced onion, garlic/pepper seasoning.

Oceans, lakes, or rivers (best bodies of water)?

Have to pick oceans, since my spiritual life is dedicated to the Mother of Waters – the orisha Yemaya.

How long does it take you to get ready to go out? no more than 10 minutes.

What is your favorite war movie? The Battle of Algiers (if that will count as a war movie)

When you die, do you want to be buried or cremated? cremated.

How do you make the perfect hamburger (or veggie burger)? I add dry Coleman’s mustard, and some finely chopped garlic and onions to to mix, then add some Peter Luger Steak Sauce. Yum.

  6. Its the Supreme Court Stupid

Oceans, lakes, or rivers (best bodies of water)?  Lakes and rivers can’t carry oceans’ water (although they do carry water TO the ocean).

How long does it take you to get ready to go out? About 30 seconds

What is your favorite war movie? The Americanization of Emily (actually, an anti-war movie, but I think it also counts as a war movie).

When you die, do you want to be buried or cremated? Burn, baby, burn.

How do you make the perfect hamburger (or veggie burger)? A mixture of 90/10 and 80/20 ground beef, onion powder, garlic powder, zatar, and a touch of cayenne.

    Oceans.

I’m ready now.  What’re we waitin’ for??

    The Thin Red Line (Malick).

    Cremated.

All I know is something I remember from the cooking nerds:  Don’t press down on the burger, because the juice comes out and you end up with a dry burger.  (Oh!  America’s Test Kitchen.)

  8. Floja Roja

Oceans, lakes, or rivers (best bodies of water)?

I’m an ocean person. The way it can be calm or stormy, the variation of color and mood, the sound of it, and the smell of it (which always kicks my appetite into high gear).

How long does it take you to get ready to go out?

    15-20 minutes.

What is your favorite war movie?

Either La Grande Illusion, The Best Years of Our Lives (well, it’s a post-war movie), or Dr. Strangelove.

When you die, do you want to be buried or cremated?

Cremated. The funeral industry is a creepy scam.

How do you make the perfect hamburger (or veggie burger)?

I’m a minimalist. Use really good meat with a high fat content, work it as little as possible. Serve with homemade chipotle mayo, sweet pickles, red onions, and sharp cheddar. Now if I could only find a source for good buns.

  9. Gee

1858 – Carl Richard Nyberg, Swedish inventor and industrialist, developed the blow torch (d. 1939)

It’s scary imagining the early failures.

Oceans, lakes, or rivers (best bodies of water)? Yes, please. Most of the places we lived growing up were on the Persian Gulf or the Mediterranean, and I swam just about every day. I don’t know if it is still this way, but in the 70s, the Persian gulf was so clear & clean, it was like looking at one of those blue paint sample cardboard things with the blue spectrum…… it was nice.

How long does it take you to get ready to go out?

30 minutes; even leaving in the morning, I’m out the door in under an hour

How do you make the perfect hamburger (or veggie burger)?

There was a restaurant in Austin long aog called Mad Dog & Beans. Near campus, burger joint. Had an “Austin burger”: sprouts, avocado & some white sauce….that’s how I’m make my veggie burger, if I could re-create their sauce.

1953 – Arto Lindsay, American musician (DNA, The Golden Palominos, The Lounge Lizards, and Ambitious Lovers)

I went to see Jack Bruce once when he was playing with Kip Hanrahan’s Desire Develops and Edge.  There were two bassists (Jack and Steve Swallow(!)), two drummers, one conga player, a horn section, and only one guitar.  The guitarist was the skinniest guy I’d ever seen, and the weird thing was, he played no solos and no chords.  He was using the guitar strictly as a percussion instrument.  It’s only recently that I figured out that that was Arto Lindsay.

Weird thing about your video:  I can hear Arto’s guitar, but he seems not to have gotten any camera time.

Water:  rivers!  I have fond canoe trip memories.  Then lakes.  I am a bit scared of the ocean.

Get ready:  shower, dry hair, dress, a touch of makeup.  Twenty minutes.  I have two small kids, there is no lingering over the hair anymore.

War movie:  not really war but the best military movie is stripes.  War movie:  I really liked apocalypse now but I don’t ever want to see it again.

    Dead:  cremated and sprinkled

Hamburger:  don’t mess with it too much.  Patties should go straight from fridge to the grill, make a thumb dimple in the middle of the patty.   It keeps it from poofing up in the middle and you’ll get a nice flat surfaced burger.  As for toppings, I am a traditionalist.

  13. Avilyn

    Back to work today.

Oceans, lakes, or rivers (best bodies of water)? They’re all awesome.

How long does it take you to get ready to go out? Usually, between 10-30 minutes depending on whether I need to shower.  Every once in a great while, like for a wedding, 45min to an hour.

What is your favorite war movie?  Don’t watch war movies.

When you die, do you want to be buried or cremated?  Cremated

How do you make the perfect hamburger (or veggie burger)?  It involves organic grass-fed beef, a charcoal grill, bread & butter pickle slices, onion, ketchup, & mustard.  Mushrooms optional.
