Sunday All Day Check-in for the Herd: Greetings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least content.

On weekends (and holidays), you may find the check-in thread earlier or later than normal because … it is the weekend! Moosies need their beauty rest:

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Let the greetings begin!

  1. with thunderstorminess. It’s 49° rising all day to low 60s, with rain the whole time.

Tomorrow we’ll probably head out with rain but it’ll get sunny and HOT by the time we get to OK.

I bought a bunch of fabric yesterday while with my buddy Beth. The shop was one of my favorites. We’re lucky here to have several within about 30 miles.

Also puttered around, getting my quilting room back in usable order. I can’t actually DO anything until Son has vacated the rest of my space. Hopefully he’ll take care of that today, so when we get back, I can finish putting things back where they belong.

Potato soup for supper tonight. mmm!

I’m Up with Steve, drinkin’ coffee, thinkin’ about what to do today. Our pool opens this weekend, prolly tomorrow, but it will likely be too cold to sit out, let alone swim.

We painted or living room yesterday after removing all the old ugly trim from the windows and door and floors.  Today we are cutting and painting new trim.

We also took the kids to a BBQ festival here in town and let them ride some rides.  I rode the tilt-a-whirl with my five year old.  She loved it.  My husband rode the big swings with her, she loved it.  No fear in that one.

My job this morning is to take the kids to the park so hubby can go to get the wood and start cutting trim without little hands and feet in the way.  Plus, it’s gonna start raining this afternoon so we must strike while the iron is hot (or dry in this case).

My parents are coming down tomorrow.  Can’t wait to see them.  Hope the house is presentable by then.

    Have a great day!

so we took Grace outside to see it, she’s young enough that this is the first time it’s rained in her short life. Our cat had already ensconced herself on her favorite perch in the garage, I remember the first time she saw it rain-she was amazed. This drought has been going on for a few years already, guess we’ll have a whole generation of children who think you’re supposed to drop what you’re doing and go outside whenever it rains. Really, when it rains everyone in town will be standing on their porches admiring it. It’s the one thing that brings the community together.

I put annuals in the ground yesterday, so we’ll probably get one more freeze, but it’s starting to feel like summer. The deck is stained, the outdoor furniture is cleaned up and in place, and this year’s fox kits are starting to play in the sun.

Well, it’s afternoon for some of you. But I’m just waking up. Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday!

And it’s pouring rain. Our rural drive home yesterday was sunny and uneventful, and a rainy day is a good rest day…..which us all I’m going to do. After the intense focus of getting my MIL moved and settled into her assisted living space and the happily completed trip to Oregon I actually have a few weeks to just live my life and think about whatever I want to 🙂

The annual Ski To Sea race is underway in Bellingham today….a very wet day for outdoor events. When our kids were young they were often on a team, and usually out of their league. It’s nice not to have to worry about someone on the Nooksack River in a canoe, or at Mt Baker on skis or a bike, or on Bellingham Bay in a kayak.

  8. On a third round of antibiotics for this infection and still feeling awful. Been sleeping for the past three days and will probably sleep most of today.

We lost Mom 3 years ago today so she has been on my mind a lot.

Still workin on art but lying on the couch all day and watching cooking shows does sound good. This picture is called Eagles.

I am located just west of Mt. Sutro, the northernmost of a series of hills that divides the sunnier east side of San Francisco from the cooler and foggier west side. And so it happens often that the place where fog ends and blue sky begins is directly overhead. That’s what’s going on today. The sun is shining from the sunny eastern part of the sky, but there is a bank of fog in the western half.

Listening to some music by Bach, some sacred cantatas for festive occasions. This music always fills me to overflowing with happiness. 🙂

It’s a pretty nice day even though the fog hasn’t burnt off completely. Only a light breeze, and not cold.

Stopped at the co-op bakery for pecan rolls. I got two, one for right now and the other for tomorrow morning. (The bakery is closed on Mondays.) There were only about eight or nine people in line ahead of me, which is pretty light for a Sunday afternoon. And the neighborhood as a whole seems a little quiet today for some reason. Maybe no one’s trusting the weather not to turn bad or something. We may get rain tomorrow.

Went to church this morning, got a portobello wrap from my friendly neighborhood vegan food trailer — and haven’t moved from the couch all day. Been clearing out the vcr, since a lot of shows I like start up now or in May. Getting rid of everything but interviews with Bono, other U2 specials, and a couple of episodes of Austin City Limits. Thinking hard about erasing last year’s Ironman triathlon — I have seen it twice, but it is the kind of thing I watch more than once….. Anyway, that’s been my day.

but we are getting much closer to having the cooler in, this year’s choice of window involves some carpentry but it will be nice when it’s done. Right now it’s too hot to cook, I’ll get up early tomrrow and get my lemon meringue pie made while it’s still cool. Grace had a spectacular day, she’s getting over that aggressive puppy biting and really starting to be comfortable being part of the family. Our old dog is much relieved she’s not getting ambushed by a biting puppy so she’s starting to take an interest in teaching Grace. Her thing is making sure Grace knows where the puppy pads are and what they’re for. Today we had good results so I’m hopeful, considering she started from being traumatized I think she’s made good progress. This afternoon she climbed into my lap for a short nap, she was so relaxed too.
