Tuesday Morning Herd Check-in: Greetings and Grazings of the Moosekin

Make sure you let your peeps know where to find you!

If you are new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh.

– Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does.

– Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment thread gets longer, it takes a bit to reload and the comment may not display as quickly. Clicking the Post button twice posts the comment twice. (h/t Khloe)

– When creating a new diary, remember to choose the Draft option (near the bottom) while you are working on it. Choose the Public option when you want to publish it. (h/t Khloe)

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Here is a great link to have open in a tab: Motley Moose Recent Comments

33 degrees with an expected high of 24? Looks like winter hasn’t given up on me yet. 7 days left until spring!

55 degrees here in the Shenandoah Valley, with a high today of 55. Yep, it’s all downhill from here.

Had to be at work at 5:30 this morning. Grrr. I’m not super fond of my normal starting time of 7:00.

58 going to 70 today with rain.  At least it isn’t cold.  I get to be a nurse again today, hubby is having oral surgery.  Hope y’all have a great day!

I have no idea why we have a place called Peek-a-moose here in Ulster county though Wiki says “The name Peekamoose is possibly a corruption of an Algonquin word meaning ‘broken off smooth”.

    Hmmmm.

  5. Diana in NoVa

across the river from Washington, DC!  I don’t mind rain, considering we’ve been far below par for the past couple of years.

Nannyboz, hope your husband will be comfortable after the surgery.  My Dearly Beloved is coming down with a cold, which is not at all nice this late in the season.

Which part of the Moose grazing lands do we visit to upload a photo to a comment? A really important birthday is coming up next month so I’d love to know how to upload a photo at that time.

What’s a-moosing everyone today?  I’ve almost finished one short story, although the ending needs more work.  Today I’m going to start on my college granddaughter’s birthday story. I write one for her every year.

Everyone have a great, moist day!

  6. to about 33.

So yes, I got this cold, but taking zinc early and often might have helped. It doesn’t seem very bad so far. Of course, it could just be that it isn’t very bad SO FAR.

Lots of things on the list for today, and a big one is to wish a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Diana in NoVa!

Going up to 36 degrees today.  The sun may peek through later.  That would be awesome.  We are getting out today.  Don’t know where yet but being cooped up is driving us all crazy!

  8. Lots of things on the todo today list. Visit the bank, food pantry, donate platelets, get movie tickets, nap, feed son and FFDIL, go to movie.

I hope I make through unscathed. Wish me luck.

but this is the weather we pay for with our 100 degree summers. Lows in the upper 30s, highs around 70, heartbreakingly beautiful blue sky. Just what the Chamber of Commerce ordered up for all our visitors this week. With SXSW in full swing – film & interactive winding down, music about to start – plus the rodeo, and some sports things going on, Austin is crazier than usual.

Couldn’t get to sleep until after 11pm…. then didn’t want to wake up.  I hope I’m aclimated (however that’s spelled) by the end of the week.

Not much on my todo list… enjoy the week off.

    Right now:

    47°F

    Current: Cloudy

    Wind: W at 8 mph

    Humidity: 93%

Google predicts a high of 70°F, but it will be a couple of degrees cooler than that out where I live.

Hope everyone is doing well this Tuesday morning. I have company coming at 9AM, the nurse to draw blood. She’s going to catch me in my sweats, because I don’t intend to dress up for the occasion (and she was adamant about 9AM). ;-p

in the week.  Snow is all gone, farmers are happy and smiling because we got a couple of inches of rain on top of the 20 inches of snow.  No plans for today other than finishing a book and going to the library for more.  Maybe go back to the shelter for another hour of cat-petting.  There are less than a dozen feline residents at the moment but the annual kitten flood will soon be upon them.

and headed for a warm up. The winds should be done after today so we hope to get some more windows in this week. Winter isn’t over yet though because the mesquites are not budding even though the fruit trees are in full bloom. I think this will be another year without a fruit crop. Our last freeze often happens over easter weekend, so much so that no one particularly associates that holiday with outdoor activities.

…I can see out the back door that it’s quite foggy. Possibly enough to dampen expectations for a warm spring day out here in the fog belt — but it’s still early enough for it to burn off. And the current weather is mild and there’s no cold wind…

  15. JG in MD

Checking in from my neighbor’s computer. I’ll be offline for three days at home because my modem died and the new one won’t be here until Friday or Saturday. I can use this computer once a day or so and go to the library for an hour but still… isn’t sudden Internet withdrawal a known psychiatric condition? I’ll expect discontinuation systems between fixes.

Bright sunny day in the SF East Bay.

I’ve been outside anyway…cleaning up my container plantings, hunting slugs (icky pesky critters), planting more primroses, and making some tall branch arrangements for the front porch. I’m wet and muddy but feeling much happier than the grump I was when I finally woke up this morning.

  18. slksfca

…from spending nearly the entire day napping. Must have really needed it, because I normally only sleep an hour or two during daylight hours.

And it looks like I missed a spectacular day, because my back door is still open from this morning and it’s not a bit chilly at 6:30 PM.

Once I pull myself together I’ll ride the crutches down to the corner store for a frozen dinner and some juice — and maybe some ice cream for later.

Best wishes for a good evening and night to anyone who wanders by here this late in the day!
