Motley Monday Check in and Mooselaneous Musings

Good morning Motley Meese! Hope your weekend was lovely. Remember to let your peeps know where you are!

Here’s today’s Motley Monday Shot of the Week. Right now I’ll be throwing in some favorites from my archives, but once the weather warms I’ll post my week’s best shot.

Back story: I’m a bit of a dragonfly fiend; any bugs cool, dragonflies especially so. I was watching a female dragonfly lay her eggs in a pond near our home when I heard a plop and she was gone. A few minutes later, I caught sight of this guy out of the corner of my eye. He was a good 5 or 6 inches long, just huge.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

And now, on with the show…

  1. 32 degrees in Madison WI heading aaaalllll the way up to 35 degrees. Dense fog advisory for the next couple of hours.

So thanks to DST, the kids will walk to the bus in the fog and the dark. Thank you, Congress!!

Sending white light to Nurse Kelley’s diagnosticians this morning to help them find the cause of her discomfort. And coffee mojo energy to her because she hates starting her day without coffee. 😉

sick of the snow now… However, all the snow went to the west side of the state – 10-15 inches, actually closing roadways (not ‘travel not advised’, but closed).

Not much planned for today.  Need to work on the taxes….

Drinking my smoothie & playing on my computer. Ready for a super-short work week. It is chilly this morning, but should be gorgeous this afternoon. Perfect weather for all of our celebrity visitors. (I’m in Austin, where SXSW is happening. We’re the center of the entertainmnet universe right now)

Legs are sore from all the standing & stooping yesterday, putting the shelves together. But that’s ok. I have 2 new sets of shelves! And I like the spring forward — more time after work to be outside. In the morning, I’m in a tiny cubicle in a room on the top back corner of an office building, sunlight doesn’t mean anything to me till I get out of here.

My weird Rand Paul story: I’m sure I must have known him as a kid. We lived in Lake Jackson for a couple of years (1st-4th grades), Rand Paul is exactly 1 year older than me (like within a week or so), and LJ was tiny then. Like, I’d be surprised if there was more than 1 elementary school. Also, there was this all-ages swim club, my brothers were pretty good & I participated in the part for my age. Ron (yes, that Ron) was one of the parent coaches – pretty sure he coached the older kids. But Rand & I would have been in the same age group for the swim team.I don’t specifically remember either Ron or Rand, but I must have met them.

Happy Monday (which is also Thursday for me this week)

  4. I have a comet diary ready for later this morning. I hope we get one evening of clear sky this week.

Heading out to pick up our glasses this morning from the shop. They have auto tint for those sunny days. Sunny? What’s that?

Melanie is typing furiously across the table. I wonder what she has to say.

Have an unstressful day at school today since students in both classes will be watching films.

Rand Paul – just thinking about him upsets my stomach – but what makes me more upset is the cheering “progressives” applauding his filibuster.

Everyone slept late due to the time change.  It is 38 degrees going up to 40.  We had a lot of rain yesterday. Still cloudy today but the sun peeks through later this week.  Have a great day everyone.

…friendly and informative. Allowing lots of drive time to make the second in time–and someone else doing the driving.

Will catch up on exactly how they elect a pope: the NYT graphic has cute graphic but little detail –do they talk to each other? do they do Sistine Sleep overs? If not, are there Vatileaks? Is there a seat for the Divine Presence in case he attends?  and most important,

what site has the live blog 😉

What is my best, English language source?

    San Francisco right now:

    44°F

    Current: Partly Cloudy

    Wind: N at 0 mph

    Humidity: 73%

…with predicted high in the upper 60s. We’re enjoying a warming trend through Wednesday.

Had fun last night meeting up briefly with a group of SF Kossacks (some of whom, like Glen The Plumber and remembrance, are also Meese) who ventured into my neighborhood for a festive dinner. I didn’t stay to eat, but traded hugs and introduced the group to my old friend and walking companion, C. Afterwards C was blown away that I’d met such nice people from an internet site (she’s a liberal but doesn’t do blogs and stuff).

Came home tired but happy, had a pretty good night’s sleep, and am ready for what Monday brings (assuming it’s not TOO awful!).

and the wind seems to have died down to a steady breeze. There’s all kinds of prep work to do in the yard so it’s a good thing when the weather cooperates. We follow the extension service advice and don’t clean up beds until we’re ready to prep the beds for planting. All that dead stuff isn’t lovely but does do an admirable job keeping the dirt in place. Frankly no one who lives here has appearnace as a priority, we’re too busy looking at the sky.

After the clean up of my MIL’s house last week, I’m going to start digging into the forgotten corners of my own. I have to wake up, go to the pool, then have a rest first….we’ll see how much I get done 🙂

Chris Hayes is going to be here tomorrow signing his book. I’ll be at work. sob.

Also, I bought it, but in audio not print so even if I skipped out on work, I don’t have anything for him to sign. But — Chris Hayes!!!

    fyi…

Dr. Cara Barker is asking quilters to donate a quilt for Sandy Hook siblings of those slain.

Sara R at the orange site had a diary, Love Project Quilts for the Siblings of Sandy Hook Victims.

Here is Dr. Cara Barker’s site for more info. Contact Dr. Barker and she’ll assign you a specific child.

…by the phone ringing. It was the occupational therapist wanting to come by today. And a second phone call, this one from a social worker they want to send to check up on me. Hmmm.

I will be my courteous self, of course, but I was hoping to blissfully nap the afternoon away. I wake up feeling so GOOD from naps now.

It’s a good thing I’ve already gotten in a short walk today, so I don’t have that hanging over my head as well.

BTW, it’s a stunning day outside. Maybe the warmest yet this year!
