Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

The Daily F Bomb, Saturday 3/2/13

Good morning, Bombasticas! Did you sleep well? Grab some coffee and indulge my curiosity…

Interrogatories

Are you superstitious? Or are there any superstitions you can’t help but follow, in spite of not believing them? Do you believe in astrology, even just a little? Are you graceful or clumsy? Have you ever sued anybody? Have you ever been sued?

On This Day

In 1807, Congress outlawed the importation of slaves to the United States, effective the following year.

In 1836, Texas declared its independence from Mexico. Now the majority of Texans would not believe they were ever part of it.

In 1917, Puerto Ricans were granted U.S. citizenship with the passage of the Jones-Shafroth Act.

In 1956, Morocco gained its independence from France.

In 1959, Jazz trumpeter Miles Davis held the first of two recording sessions that yielded the album “Kind of Blue.”

In 1985, the federal government approved a screening test for AIDS that detected antibodies to the virus, allowing possibly contaminated blood to be excluded from the blood supply. They still won’t let you give blood if you’ve even thought of having sex with a gay man, though.

In 2008, Dmitry Medvedev, Vladimir Putin’s hand-picked successor, scored a crushing victory in Russia’s presidential election.

In 2011, the Supreme Court ruled 8-1 that members of the whackjob idiot wingnut fundamentalist Westboro Baptist Church had a First Amendment right to picket the funeral of a Marine.

  1. Looks like the lack of courage from Congress is not a recent thing:

In 1807, Congress outlawed the importation of slaves to the United States, effective the following year.

So essentially “Stock up on slaves day”. Sigh.

I see popes … lots of popes … it is really creepy.

Off to do some Old Stuff … have a great day, Floja Roja!!

(p.s. Don’t pick on President Obama for getting his Jedis and his Vulcans mixed up! I am sure it is from living in a constant and complete “cave”. 😉 )

  2. Waiting for the coffee to brew. Need to get laundry done today. That means of course Pixie will “help” me change the sheets, sort the clothes, etc. Don’t know how I ever managed to get things done without her help. 😉

Are you superstitious? A little. But then being almost half Irish I suppose that is genetics. 😉

Or are there any superstitions you can’t help but follow, in spite of not believing them? Can’t think of any right off hand.

Do you believe in astrology, even just a little? A little but then I’m fascinated by a lot of the paranormal. Something I inherited from Dad who was a scientist and had a huge collection of books we shared on ghosts, the Bermuda Triangle, UFOs, etc.

Are you graceful or clumsy? A bit of both with a little more towards the clumsy side because I move too fast.

Have you ever sued anybody? No but I am tempted to sue Virginia Foxx for her support of the sequester and other bonehead moves.

Have you ever been sued? No.

  3. Are you superstitious? Or are there any superstitions you can’t help but follow, in spite of not believing them? Do you believe in astrology, even just a little?

    Emphatic no to all 3

    Are you graceful or clumsy?

    CLUMSY. Hoo boy.

    Have you ever sued anybody?

Yes. I got hit by a cab. We sued and settled.

    Have you ever been sued?

    No

  4. Thanks for the Rory Gallagher tune.

Tried something different this morning. Melanie and I went to the mall for our walk. Hardly anyone there. Two circuits took 30 min for about 1.5 miles. We came home, made coffee, and had some Irish soda bread with butter and honey.

    Have an interesting day.

  5. blue jersey mom

than Russ Feingold. Hell, sometimes I think that I am older than dirt. The Scooter Store sent me a brochure yesterday. I walk 4 miles a day. And I am not yet old enough for Medicare. Aren’t the Scooter Store folk being sued by Medicare for fraud anyway?

    Here are a few answers:

    Are you superstitious? No

Or are there any superstitions you can’t help but follow, in spite of not believing them? I avoid sidewalk cracks occasionally, even though my mom is long gone. I think that black cats are lucky.

Do you believe in astrology, even just a little? No, I am a scientist.

Are you graceful or clumsy? Often clumsy, although I have some dance training, and I can be graceful if I have to.

Have you ever sued anybody? No

Have you ever been sued? No

  6. Heading downstairs soon to finish quilting the project I started yesterday. I saw, as I rolled it on the frame, that the tension on the back is mucked up. ::sigh…:: But either way it’ll be finished.

You have questions, I have answers:

Are you superstitious? Or are there any superstitions you can’t help but follow, in spite of not believing them?

Nope. Well, I always think of picking up the penny for good luck. I usually think about throwing salt over my left shoulder. I often notice the cracks in the sidewalk and consider stepping over them. But it doesn’t rule me.

Do you believe in astrology, even just a little?

    Nope.

    Are you graceful or clumsy?

    Clumsy.

Have you ever sued anybody? Have you ever been sued?

    Not so far.

  7. Gee

Jeff Beck is playing You Know, We Know, and I’m answering questions again!

Are you superstitious? Or are there any superstitions you can’t help but follow, in spite of not believing them? Do you believe in astrology, even just a little? Are you graceful or clumsy? Have you ever sued anybody? Have you ever been sued?

    Not superstitious.

However, I can’t shake the feeling that if I say that X has never happened, it is bound to happen immediately.  Sort of a variation of the “announcer’s curse.”  “Rory hasn’t made a bogey in the last 58 holes!  Oops!  There’s a bogey!  Sorry, Rory.”

    No.

I’m somewhere on a continuum between graceful and clumsy, if they are opposites.  Closer to graceful than clumsy, I think.

I have never sued anybody.  I was once sued by mistake.  A woman was on her way to her employment in our neighborhood as a maid.  It had snowed and she slipped and fell on the sidewalk.  Her employers sued me because she had given them the wrong address for the house she fell in front of.  As luck would have it, I was the one who saw her fall, and I rescued her.  Otherwise, I wouldn’t have known where she actually fell, and might have paid through the nose!

Oh, and I guess I was sued for divorce.

    Are you superstitious? no

Or are there any superstitions you can’t help but follow, in spite of not believing them? probably, but I can’t think of 1 just now

Do you believe in astrology, even just a little?  I could be stubborn because I’m a Capricorn, or because of my Irish ancestry, or just because. I always say it is because I’m a Texan of Irish ancestry.

Are you graceful or clumsy? klutz

Have you ever sued anybody? no

Have you ever been sued? no

  9. Floja Roja

yet I always throw the salt over my left shoulder if I spill any.

On the other hand, I agree with bjm that black cats are good luck. And I always open umbrellas inside (so they can dry out, duh). I once broke a mirror on Friday the 13th and the next 7 years were a blast. I’ll bet if the cat I was taking to the vet at the time was a black cat instead of Siamese, it would have been even better!

  10. Avilyn

Not much on the agenda today other than the usual bit of house cleaning and relaxing.  Made it to the farmers market last night so I have a nice bean soup with a ham hock in it simmering on the stove.  Yum.

Are you superstitious? Or are there any superstitions you can’t help but follow, in spite of not believing them?

I was going to say that I’m not superstitious, but then I started thinking about some of the little things I do – knocking on wood, throwing salt over the shoulder, etc., and I guess I’ve got to say at least somewhat, yes.

Do you believe in astrology, even just a little?  I did when I was in high school.  My best friend was big into figuring out people’s charts, etc.  I mostly just learned about the signs and stuff.  Don’t really think about it these days.

Are you graceful or clumsy?  Definitely on the clumsy side.

Have you ever sued anybody? Have you ever been sued?

No, and thankfully no.  Been in car accidents where the insurance companies have had to settle things, but there were never personal lawsuits.

  11. 1864 House

Cold and sunny on the west coast of Wisconsin today. I am reaching the point of the season where I am tired of all my clothes so I may venture out to shop, which is something I hate doing, but a new sweater might get me over the hump of March.

    Answers:

The one and only superstition I have is touching the outside of the plane as I am boarding. Do I follow others? Not really.

I believe in astrology to some extent. I think we are affected by the rhythms of the universe, even if we don’t admit it.

    Graceful or clumsy? Both, actually.

    Never sued or been sued.

  12. zenor

‘a Texan is a Mexican on his way to Oklahoma’

(He never elaborated beyond that, but lived exactly there, 40 yrs)

no i try hard not to be. but i am a practicing christian and i am sure an atheist would find me superstitious.

astrology: if two people were born on the same day/place would they have similar tracks?  it never made sense to me.

so clumsy.  i had a migraine thursday w/ some hangover friday, and i dropped my keys like 4 times.

yes, yes, in the scope of divorce/custody/arrest of ex, and also once i was served after a car accident although my insurance co took care of everything.
