Be sure that your peeps know where to find you.

I would like to welcome you if you are new to the Moose. Feel free to walk around and check out your new digs. Feel free to comment at any time or continue lurking as you will(I see you out there).  Kysen has left us all a Welcome Mat Part Duex to help us get around easier. If you are an established Moose, pull up a chair and a cuppa.

JanFab has written out some instructions to help.

The big stuff:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh.

The most important rule around here is

Be kind to each other… or else.

In other words, if you don’t want it said to you, then don’t say it to someone else. Respect is an important thing. If you feel the need to not respect, then step away and take a breath. Political debate can be both spirited and respectful.

If you are a new moose (or an old moose) looking for a second chance to make a first impression, you can start right here. Life doesn’t always offer second chances, so make the most of it.

For those of you lurking and being shy. No reason to be nervous. Drop us a comment and start making your Moose Tracks. No time like the present.

We are actually supposed to see some sun tomorrow, if the forecast can be believed. It’s hard to remember what that is like after what seems an endless stretch of cold, gray, gray and more gray weather, with intermittent snow (only a couple of inches at a time now and then). From Tuesday on LOTS warmer and sunnier – can’t wait!

Hope all you moozog have a good weekend ahead.

  2. I won’t stay too long. I haven’t been to bed yet. I wish everyone could send their clouds over here. NorCal has had the driest Jan and Feb ever recorded. I saw fog this morning for the first time in ages.

  3. It is supposed to get to 29 degrees. Mostly cold for the next few days then starting at the end of next week, we should see a warming trend.

I let myself sleep in today so I am still sipping my wake-up coffee (normally by now I have had 4 cups). So don’t say anything important that I might need to understand!!

Posting from my phone as I contemplate whether to drag my lazy rear out of bed. So far the meh vote is leading. Was going to start a load of laundry but someone (I love you anyway dear) left a load in the washer yesterday which must be rewashed. So no reason for getting up has yet presented itself.

    Motivation. I lack it.

Doug is up and painting the kitchen cabinets. He is also replacing the doors. I am slowly drinking coffee. It is just above freezing here in central NJ. Fingers crossed that we do not get a big snowstorm later in the week. We have a really busy week coming up at the office.

There is a covered lump in the middle of my bed, which I hope is Bullwinkle. Something else would be frightening!

34 degrees on Long Island but with the wind chill factor feels about 10 degrees less. Very cloudy too.

Must get motivated to do grocery shopping!

St Charles is grey again.  Dreary.  19 degrees going up to 30 today.  No real plans today.  Sloth time may be doable.

The motivating force turned out to be a warm bowl of old-fashioned oats, with a touch of sweetner and some cinnamon.

Shout out to Melanie in IA for inspiring us to make Irish soda bread, which I had never had before. We threw in a little sweetner, some cinnamon and raisins. It turned out wonderfully!

    Come on spring!

Good morning, all!  Tonight is Vegetarian Night at our house, so what to have for dinner? Perhaps I’ll make vegetarian chili.  Tomorrow is easy, a Red Meat Night, so we’ll have beef stew.

This morning I’ve got to walk around my neighborhood asking for signatures on a petition to get a candidate on the ballot for a June primary.  I’ve known the candidate for 10 years, ever since we worked on the Howard Dean campaign together.  I simply DREAD going door-to-door but have put this off until the last possible moment, so today is the day.

Yesterday I went to the next-door neighbors to ask them to sign and they talked my ear off.  In 45 minutes I heard their opinions on the Fairfax County educational system, immigration, the sequester, the Obamacare (they would like a single-payer system), paid maternity leave, and I can’t remember what else!  By the time I left I had the impression that talking to me had brightened their day.

Thank Goddess I had already made the chicken pot pie for dinner and left it in the fridge, so all I had to do was pop it into the oven.  I do hope people aren’t going to talk my ear off today.

Have a pleasant, slow-paced weekend, everyone!

  10. Yesterday afternoon in another spot I noted that today is National Unplug Day, or some such thing, and said I would go offline for 2 or 3 days.

Jim reminded me this morning that yesterday was National Pig Day, and I didn’t do anything special for it, so … here I am.

We’ve already been to the mall to walk around like old folks. It’s all of 8 degrees here, so it actually seems like a pretty rational thing the old folks do. Back for coffee and Irish soda bread.

Today I’ll finish quilting the project I started yesterday. I realized when half through that the tension is having problems and making a mess on the back. I spent the evening feeling sorry for myself, for that and other things.

But things usually look better in the morning, and so they do.

    Peace…

Where our severe weather outbreak resulted in buckets of snow.  Well, maybe two bucketsfull, spread over about five acres (sigh)  I had been so hopeful.

Eating breakfast, watching Chris Hayes & Melissa Harris Perry. Going to the Texas orange meet up this afternoon. Then a friend & her husband are going to see if they can help me put together some shelves.

I’m really tired, I think the above is all I’m doing today. Haven’t heard anything new about Mom. Guess all is the same as yesterday.

snow on Monday…..  Nothing real planned for the weekend.  Need to clean the house, but who cares?!?!?!

  14. I would have been able to change the sheets and make the bed in half the time without her “help” this morning.

I have a couple of leads on where to advertise my art so that I could get some sales. Been updating old pictures like crazy so everything on my website is of the best quality. Did these two the other day called Flames and Fly Away.

Somewhere in China, a fanged water deer wishes us well.

I am obsessed with fangs just now, considering that mine are malfunctioning. My bite’s way off (maybe because of two missing molars), and my TMJs haz a sad. But the fact that I can walk outside and get some sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy. Denver is headed for 56 today and 63 tomorrow. Wo0t1!!

Any word on when Silky will be shifted to rehab?

she took a turn & without extraordinary measures……

a cousin & aunt are there with my brother, I’ll get there in 4 hours

  18. I signed up for one of the weekend workshops at the Iowa Summer Writing Festival. University of Iowa, home of the famous Iowa Writers’ Workshop, also does a writing festival of weekend and week-long workshops, for folks like us. Last year I tried to sign up, but was much too late. This time the course offerings came out a WEEK ago, and STILL I was too late, for 2 of the 3 I wanted. But I did get one. I’m excited!

Also I finished quilting the thing I started yesterday. The back is sort of a mess. Half of it has bad tension (yesterday’s half.) Half is fine. At least I fixed it, but half-way too late.

It’s actually reassuring, though, to know I messed up and the machine is fine. I can fix what I did, but fixing the machine is a lot harder.

Sun is bright here today. Nice change. nchristine is right, though. We do have more snow in the forecast for Monday.

both my brother & I remember her saying she wanted to donate her body, so we’re doing that. One of my uncles was cremated & there’s a 2nd spot where he is, & his daughter says we can use that.

I’m ok. Sad but ok. This wasn’t unexpected, have been preparing for a while. Will talk to you guys later.
