I would like to welcome you if you are new to the Moose. Feel free to walk around and check out your new digs. Feel free to comment at any time or continue lurking as you will.  Kysen has left us all a Welcome Mat Part Duex to help us get around easier.

JanFab has written out some instructions to help.

The big stuff:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, or Meh. Just Meh.

The most important rule around here is

Be kind to each other… or else.

In other words, if you don’t want it said to you, then don’t say it to someone else. Respect is an important thing. If you feel the need to not respect, then step away and take a breath. Political debate can be both spirited and respectful.

19 degrees and we got 3 inches of snow yesterday. It looks so beautiful out. Almost like a snow globe.  How is your day going?

    A morning earworm for you.

it snowed last night. I am not a big fan of snow. It is also 14 degrees outside. Frankly, I don’t like winter, Bring on the spring. the good news is that the builders made good progress on my house this week. The roof has been fixed, and the sheet rock has been replaced in the bedroom.

  3. I also haz 8 degrees in Madison WI. Winter storm watch tomorrow through Monday morning bringing rain sleet snow and gloom of night.

currently 19&deg here in the Shenandoah Valley, with an expected high of 34. I raided Kidlet’s chocolate chip Leggo waffles, and have the first cup of my pot of coffee in hand. We got somewhere between 1/2 and 1″ of snow last night. Not enough to plow, but enough to cause irritation, so I’ll run a salt spreader this morning on my two hour Saturday shift. We alternate Saturdays, and this is my turn.

We may make a run to Lumber Liquidators today to look at what they have to offer. We were looking at flooring for the house last weekend when we bought the workshop, and we discovered that bamboo flooring is around the same price as a mid-grade laminate. We want to see what they offer. There will be no carpet when we build the house. An occasional area rug, perhaps, but no carpet.

Time to go spread salt. Be back in a couple hours. Question for the masses – contemplating a photo diary this weekend. Good idea or not, and if so, when would be the best time?

sixteen degree NYC with an inch of snow most places. Guess I have to hunt up my boots before going out to do Saturday morning chores

the spring!  Visiting Sadie at the vet today, she’ll likely have surgery Monday.  I think we’re finally getting to the bottom of this, looks like some kind of mass is pressing on nerves that support bowel and bladder.

19 here, headed above freezing if barely so. trs is out salting the dusting on our roads.

Still shaking the last vestiges of headache day 4. Better today but still there in the background. This afternoon we may head out so I can see the land since the excavator is done. trs has seen it but I haven’t. Then maybe some dream-shopping for the house that isn’t built yet and won’t be for a couple of years. We like to wander in home places, furniture places, etc. and get ideas.

Actually, we are mootant moose since we form a herd, hehe. The 4-legged ones don’t, I read somewhere on the intertubes. Early afternoon, still cold, but the farmers here say the weather often changes with the full moon, which is tomorrow, and right on time the weather forecast next week is for milder temperatures: hi 40s – lo 50s during the day. A welcome change from the 20s we’ve been having for the last couple of weeks.

It’s gray hazy foggy dreary icky for about the four thousandth day here in the DFW metroplex….well at least the last couple of days anyway.

I’m off to train professional aviators. After nearly three years out of work it’s wonderful to get to go to my job.

    Be good.

    Mmmooooo

  12. wordsinthewind

we have clearing skies here but did indeed see a nice shower yesterday afternoon. We’ll be out digging in the dirt as soon as it warms up today.

  13. It is currently 25 and icy. We got a dusting of snow. Hoping things warm up enough in the next couple of hours as I have to go get the front headlight fixed on my car.

Merlin had a rough night and I am currently cleaning up hairballs all over the house. Sigh.

  14. pittiepat

the same forecast for tomorrow with a 70% chance of rain — fingers crossed!  Lordy, I love a rainy day and we haven’t had one in months.

  15. Nurse Kelley

Mornin’, Kat and all y’all Moosies. I’m about to drop my AM antibiotics, so I’ll be feeling urpy pretty soon. Send me some snow, k?

  16. princesspat

The PNW seems very dark this winter, but 43° and morning rain is normal winter weather.

    Good morning everyone!

  17. Khloe

So I’m going to step out for a few hours. I’ll be back in the evening. Please have fun today and make a whole lot of mischief.

  18. slksfca

I bring greetings from the coast, where it’s sunny and mild today (better weather than we often get in midsummer).

Do mornings around here really begin at 2AM? I can’t keep up with you folks. ;-p

  19. Abra Crabcakeya

we did not get rain for about 5 days in a row , and where now I might walk in the yard without sinking into it.Tsula (my Lord & Mistress , 7 YO Corgi for the dozen of us who are not migrants from…) is sitting in the sun on back porch and carefully observing the passage of time and chipmunks. It’s really nice to see the names of so many correspondents once again , after a year or more hiding in GUS.

  20. cassandracarolina

meeses, and come hang out in my Houston area back yard until things improve.

    Back Yard Summer 2010

It’s not quite this lush in the winter, but I am heading over to the quirky nursery near my house to pick up some flowers to plant. Maybe something PURPLE to celebrate my happy new cyber-home!

  21. LabWitch

or at least off the net.  i need to finish mr. l’s sleepytime cap and fashion some socks for my daily foot paraffin treatments, the ones that they sell at the beauty supply stores would fit bigfoot!  and just sort of putter around doing these things.  maybe a little calligraphy practice if i have some time.  still having some slight discomfort from my infection, but, it’s getting better.  loose clothing helps and it’s a bit cool outside so, i’ll be indoors doing the things i’ve been putting off for a while.

everyone have a great day … i’ll come back later this pm and drop mojo in the diaries.  stay safe everyone, have some fun!

  22. LabWitch

good to see ya here!  always great to know you’re around the net, and of course, always happy to converse by phone withya!

give the tailless one some tummy skritchies from her aunty labby!  you just get to hear my voice on the phone, no tummy skritchies ROFLOL.  HUGS dear Bam!

disembodied online hearts and spirits , in many cases for several years now . Many scream names are recognizd , and a coule more i’m getting to think are OldFolks From Home now that I’m picking up on your writing voices and locations around the country. Hi , Yaw! BTW , if BJM doesn’t read this comment , someone please mention to her that I recently , like early last week , read “Cherokee Prehistory”. A neat presentation of archaeological site analyses possibly linking Mississipian , Appalachian Summit , and Cherokee peoples in a somewhat tenuous fashion – and written on a grad student & pro reference level for a distinctly welcome change . I get tired of reading chirren’s books ’bout Injuns acquired via poor descriptions at B&N , etc.

And I say Injuns ’cause I am.

The temps are dropping somewhat in the South Bay (SF Bay Area), presently 56 with some rain drops coming and going.

I don’t want to scare you off but the GOP posted an online survey that is worth a look. No depth, just asking what they should talk about, however on the last screen it gives you an opportunity to write down your thoughts. I couldn’t resist.

    http://growthopp.gop.com/defau

Your party is one of hatred, discrimination and prejudice. While my contact information is bogus, the answers I have provided to you are true. I hope you will consider them because the damage your party, (Romney would have done to our country is frightening) and your current policies generate is  grave. They hurt hard working people, those in poverty, the poor, lower and middle class individuals and families. Your party is one of doing for oneself and not helping your fellow citizens. Your party consistently construes data and facts that mislead people, you prey on fear, racial hatred. You have done a grave disservice to those who believe in you, who are people who truly care about fellow humans, their environment and want to see people lifted out of poverty. You have hurt them because you have lied to them and invoked a mistrust and hatred of our president. If you continue as is, you will fail. There are good people in your party and I pray they will not allow you to gerrymander the presidency and inhibit democratic voters from exercising their right to vote.

It really felt good, this rant I bestowed. Don’t let Reince (sp) scare you off in the initial video, just skip it and click to take the survey and do share.

but I thought I’d say hello to anyone who might still be reading this!

And wow!!! Look at all the familiar names!! And how did I get TU status here without posting a comment?

Nice to see so many ofmy old favorites again! It took me a while to figure out where you all went!

And if anyone is interested, we’re still in Gizo in the Solomon Islands enjoying very nice weather for what is supposed to be cyclone season. But this part of the Solomons doesn’t see much in the way of cyclones.
