Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

A need to vent my anger

At first I just wrote this as a comment in the diary about DWS.  Then I decided it deserved a diary.  My anger right now is fierce, is deep and I wonder if people will ever wake up to the greed, the hate, the narrow visioned, bigoted view of the tea party.

This is the time for those on the left to speak loud, speak clear and not back down.  Democracy is about compromise.  Obama wants to compromise. But enough is enough.   One cannot compromise with those who do not believe in compromise.

This is why I believe in strong unions, in strong advocacy groups.  NOW is the time to speak out.

And this is one of many reasons why I like DWS.  When she talked about having breast cancer, she acknowledged that despite the scare, the trauma, she was lucky.  She had access to health care.

I identified with her.  I have been lucky because for most of my life I have been able to work in a job where I could buy health care as a part of a group and my premiums monthly were doable.  I have always been able to get pap smears, mammograms, screenings for my colon etc.

After I retired, I had to pay the full premiums for a five years.  It was not easy paying over $4000 a year for premiums and co pays for many tests…some over $500.  One ER visit was $1800 out of pocket on top of a premium.  Thankfully I was able to do it.  It was not easy and at 65 I still work to make sure I meet all bills.   But as one of those overpaid teachers I suspect some think I live a gravy train life.  Finally I made it to Medicare which took much worry off me.   When I had open heart surgery I was not in Medicare and my out-of-pocket was close to $3000.  Again, doable for me. Not easy but doable.

But many women struggle to make ends meet and live with the fear of losing everything if they or a child get sick.  Access to preventative care is with things like PP.  Yet the tea party is ready and willing to take away basic services from poor women.

As I write this, I am steaming in anger at the right. I want Obama and the left to stand strong.

I have had said it before…I am no centrist and I acknowledge that I am frustrated with the president over unions, over public education, over the wars and Gitmo.

I still stand by him and will vote/work for him, but dammit if President Obama and the left do not get it now, I don’t know when they will.

Democracy is about compromise and while I admire that the president has worked hard to do so, at some point he and his team need to acknowledge the truth..this right wing, the tea party mentality is not about democracy.

I hope DWS brings her fighting spirit to this.  Women especially will be punished by the tea party mentality.  THEY, the pathetic tea party people, have to be stopped.  They are anti women, anti science, anti fair.

NEEDED to vent.

One cannot compromise with those who do not believe in compromise.

While true, the end result of that is one cannot govern, which I suspect is the tea party’s whole agenda, to make the country ungovernable so people will blame Obama…they’ve been fairly good at making that work.

In the end, our system of government was created so that all parties have power, even when they lose. I don’t think our Founding Fathers ever thought it would come to this…this isn’t a system I think works, but it’s the one we have…maybe one day we’ll realize that and change it in some way. I doubt it.

On a final note, I think it’s suicide for the President to threaten to veto a CR that would restore military pay, no matter what’s in it. The military is the sacred cow of the country and it’s really dangerous for Democrats specifically to fuck with it.

And it’s not like anyone on the left who doesn’t always stands by Obama is going to give Obama credit anyway.

going anywhere with this president and this Senate.  Zero.  I would bet my next however many paychecks.  Just as there is zero chance the Senate or the president will allow funding for Title X to dry up.  Zero.

Politically, morally, and in every way this is a winning issue for Democrats and even they aren’t stupid enough to screw this up.

When I see the repeated steps Republicans, and some Dems, are making against minorities, the poor, and women it pisses me off.  Particularly at the state level ~ Idaho just passed a provision preventing abortions after 20 weeks that did not include a rape/incest exclusion because … get this … we shouldn’t punish the unborn child for being the product of a rape or incest.  Never mind the woman ~ it’s all about the child.

This kind of crap just makes me want to hit someone…really hard.

The agenda of the right is becoming less nuanced and so blatant that I like to think the middle of the country will wake up. The Tea Party is leading (and being led) into a nation of Lords and Serfs. A group of middle to old aged white americans are being manuvered into turning america into a society built on greed and social Darwinism.

While I often differ with you (Jjc) on paticulars of education and unions, I agree that its time to make a stand. Across the country GOP govoners are trying to gut public education and social programs for the poor and working class. The Koch’s of this world don’t really care if my kids or your kids get a equal shot at prosperity, their only goal is maintaining their position and everything they do is a means to that one end.

budget battle is now in truce mode. I think something needs to be said.

The left is complaining wildly that Obama has caved yet again.

Now drift over to Red State or Fox Nation and start reading the comments from the far right and the Tea Party types (one in the same?) And they are in full melt down.  They didn’t get PP defunded, The EPA still exists, the didn’t get the $100 billion in cuts as promised.

I am of a mind that when both sides are miserable with a deal the deal was about the best either side was going to get.

Now I will admit I am a bit gleeful that the right ain’t happy 🙂

There once was a man named ‘Boner’.

It’s said he is quite the loner.

He spent so much time in a tanning machine,

His face took on an incredible sheen

eased only by a bit of toner.

If you read his books you can tell he’s all about working things out and finding middle ground. I know you’re angry and I’m pretty pissed myself (never expected him to be so gung ho on military action) but it is what it has always been. 2 years in I think many who criticize things he didn’t do (which he never was going to do) should not be surprised and shocked by what’s going on. He’s pretty much been the POTUS this country needed at this moment. After seeing how out of touch the “mainstream liberals” are I understand why most of this country is in the middle. I am a liberal/progressive or whatevs peeps want to call (don’t give a fuck what people think I am actually) it but many dream about unattainable things and then complain when it’s not done. Meh. Baby steps. Obama has moved the Overton Window on many things. The public option is a great example of this. Most of America has no fucking clue what that is and they’ve only heard it from Obama. There was no way it was doable. No way! Yet a small fringe believes that their 10% is more important than the rest of the 90%. We live in a democracy and that means majority wins. This is the real world and most people on blogs are clueless and hang out on blogs precisely because it’s the only place their ideas will not be laughed at. They think that for some reason their idea are better and more teh awesome and fuck what everybody else thinks.

We’ve only got 2 options right now and keeping the Republicans out of power is a lot more important than anything this POTUS does or doesn’t do.

But then again most of the so called “libs” (cuz if I criticize them it means I’m not liberal enough or so they say) complaining don’t have to worry about where they will get the money to feed their families.

Oh noez I’m trashing liberals! Or people who pretend to think they know what a fucking liberal is.

    Meh.
