Selling Fear and Ignorance – GOTV.

I admit I am out of the loop and as such this diary won’t include clever analysis or biting arguments. Real-life obligations and exhaustion are my excuse. I don’t know the intricacies of the upcoming midterm elections or other particulars.

Here’s what I do know: This is one of the most important elections of my lifetime. Here’s Rob Reiner on Real Time with Bill Maher with the first fitting Godwin I have ever seen.

Selling fear and ignorance!

(h/t fogiv)

The batshit crazy has grabbed onto the Republican Party and for the life of me I don’t understand why this is resonating with Americans. GOTV my American friends, family and fellow humans, GOTV.

I usually hesitate with things Godwin – but in this case I agree.

We will see Tuesday night/Wednesday morning how many Americans actually vote for the brownshirts and brainless who are on tickets across America.

    GOTV!!!

It occurred to me this morning that the Republicans have had to go full on crazy to squeeze votes from the fringes of the fringes of right wingers.  They’ve had to pander to the Nazis, the religious fanatics, the John Birchers, the Libertarians, the birthers and other tin-foil hat groups.

Whatever happens today, this is the best it gets for the Republicans.  They have no other groups to pander to and they’ve sold their souls to get whatever votes they could to take back JUST ONE of the houses of Congress.  They’ve got no bench left.

Democrats, on the other hand, will have a pretty good turnout for a midterm.  We’ll meet or beat 2006 levels and still have untapped voters who only vote in Presidential years.  And we’ve got new voters turning 18 every year.  Not only that, one of the prices the Republicans will pay to get their crazies to vote will be the loss of some more of their moderate sane members.

My point is, greed is shortsighted.  The Republicans want to win THIS election so much they are willing to risk future elections to do it.
