In 1963, Medgar Evers, a young civil rights activist, was shot and killed outside his home in Jackson, Missisippi by KKK member Byron De La Beckwith.
In 1964, South African activist Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life in prison.
In 1967, the Supreme Court ruled in Loving v. Virginia that laws against interracial marriage were unconstitutional.
