  1. Are you usually early, late, or right on time?

I was 7 weeks early being born and I’ve been early ever since.

What is your favorite epithet that would not get you fined if you said it on TV?

I sometimes curse with made-up syllables, but of epithets in English…. I like “Balderdash” a lot.

If you could make up your own coat of arms, what would be on it?

Oh man…. I don’t know. I know nothing about coats of arms. Are they supposed to be about a family’s history? So, we could have people crossing the Atlantic in steerage?

Do you still have all your marbles?

    I was born missing some.

Who is the best teacher you ever had?

I have to list more than one (considering how much school I’ve had!)

    Early years:

Grace Kumar, who taught 5 and 6 year old kids at Gateway. I still remember a) Her hair (it was almost to the floor if unbraided) and b) Her saying “be gentle. That’s a person” whenever we were too rough (verbally or physically).

    Teens:

Malcolm Spaull, who taught me math at York Prep. He willingly let me skip several years in 10 minutes.

Helen Lambeth who taught social studies and taught me to look at a book’s author, index and bibliography.

    Grad school:

Herman Friedman taught me how to think statistically. He had lots of sayings like “If you’re not surprised, you haven’t learned anything” and (people who do research and stats will get this one) “stop p-ing on the research!”

What is your favorite bread or bread-type product?

Well, there are some REALLY GOOD chocolate croissants out there. Even the bad ones are pretty good.

    What is your favorite sandwich?

Sandwich names tend to vary geographically, but in NYC my favorite is often called “An Italian hero” – ham, coppa, salami, etc. with lettuce and onions and hot peppers, oil and vinegar on a hero roll.

Pan bagnat is also wonderful if made right.  It’s properly made with good canned tuna packed in olive oil. In some bizarre attempt to make it more authentic, some places round here make it with chunks of grilled tuna. Oy. Also, it needs good olives, not the junky black olives that come from a can and taste like nothing at all.

Are you usually early, late, or right on time? Like a wizard, I am always PRECISELY on time.

What is your favorite epithet that would not get you fined if you said it on TV? Are you fuckin’ kidding me?

If you could make up your own coat of arms, what would be on it? Knowing me, a few food stains.

Do you still have all your marbles? A few cat’s eyes

Who is the best teacher you ever had?  Ken Deutsch, a poli-sci prof I took six times in college.

What is your favorite bread or bread-type product? Olive Sourdough

    What is your favorite sandwich?

Late, early, on time:  I am early.  It is genetic

Epithet:  Jesus Christ!  I say it all the time.  My two year old has said it.  Among other things.

Coat of arms:  some knitting needles and a big bottle of wine

    Marbles:  mostly

Best teacher:  Mr. Moser, I took two years of chemistry in high school and he was my man.  He nudged me toward biochem and that was my college major before going off to vet school.  Such a great teacher.  There were lots of great teachers at my high school in Alaska but he was so awesome and Ioved the subject matter so he wins.

Favorite bread:  I make French bread.  It is yummy with a little butter and some good soup.

Sandwich:  BLT. Totally.  Our traditional family birthday dinner is BLTs and champagne.  ðŸ™‚

I have to work really hard to be patient enough to not arrive too early.

OK, now, this is like being on Inside the Actors Studio, and you’re all ready for the Bernard Pivot questions, and Lipton asks you about your favorite non curse word?  I’m not ready!  Durn yore hide.

A book and some sort of musical design.

I was going to ask which kind of marbles, but it doesn’t matter.  Of course not.

I would have said Mr. Stevens my 9th grade algebra teacher, but that was before he punched that kid at the pep rally.  So maybe Mrs. O’Neil from senior English.  She was a bit odd, but I now realize that that is a good thing in an English teacher.  Oh, wait!  Scratch all that.  It’s Mrs. Fretz, the French teacher.  Very fun she was.

Favorite bread product would have to be something sweet.  Pumpkin bread.  Banana bread.

    A Reuben!!!!!!!

  11. raina

re: Vanderbilt? I admit to owning several pairs. The ones I’ve bought seem more geared to curves, not stick figures, and I like them.

I couldn’t sleep last night, so I watched TV. I caught a movie on TMC called The Smiling Lieutenant. They’re doing 31 days of Oscars. It was a delightful movie, and I was amazed they had a song called Jazz Up Your Lingerie in 1931!

    ****

    Almost always on time.

My epithets are so ordinary. LOL. One of the first ones I learned as a kid was “shit ass.” No one says that anymore.

Do you still have all your marbles? Literally or figuratively?

    Cinnamon rolls.

BLT, no contest. Whoever invented that was a genius.

  12. slksfca

…about a coat of arms, but I do have a tattoo that’s a heraldic device: the Thistle of Scotland. It reflects both my Scots heritage and my given name, so I thought it was an appropriate bit of body art. 🙂

  13. JG in MD

Are you usually early, late, or right on time? Yes.

What is your favorite epithet that would not get you fined if you said it on TV? Oh, frick!

If you could make up your own coat of arms, what would be on it? A book, a quill pen, a cat and a typewriter.

Do you still have all your marbles? No, but I have pretzel M&Ms in my candy dish that look like them.

Who is the best teacher you ever had? Earliest best was Mr. Gaub, 7th or 8th grade geography. There were later bests too.

What is your favorite bread or bread-type product? ::Jill lets out her favorite string of words you can’t say on TV:: I tried to photograph the amazing unsliced chewy harvest grain bread I eat every day and my camera died. Even good batteries won’t light it up any more.

    What is your favorite sandwich?
If I have good farmers-market tomatoes, that.

    1. Was once usually early – now have almost no schedule and haven’t worn a watch in years.I’ll get to vet appointment tomorrow likely a few minutes early by setting cell phone alarm.

    2. Been on a campaign of cleaning my sewer mouth up for a couple years now – but those left are non PC and refer to my x in most unflattering ways that are all deadly accurate.

    3. No coat of arms. Just not me , not at all.

    4. I’ve thrown some away , discerning that they were slag , after all.

    5. Dr. Michael Nielsen ,of Geology at University Of Alabama at Birmingham. Taught me some important things about life and being a person as well as the damned rocks.

6.Anything but white goo – bread.

    7. My favorite sandwich is one eaten with company eating their sandwich. So , most recently that would be a McNasty’s double 1/4 pounder w/cheese , shared with Tsula. Generally that is emergency food only – but the comapany made the food good. Her enthusiasm made the day good – as it makes the years liveable.
