    Here are a few answers:

Did you ever have braces? No, all of us at Casa Blue Jersey have straight teeth.

Do you need glasses (don’t we all)? Hell yes, while straight teeth may be in our gene pool, good eyesight is not.

Do you ride horses at all? Dad and I were on a horse once. We took a ride when we were on Maui a couple of years ago.

When was the last time you rode a bike? My initial reaction was some time in the Kennedy administration, but I have ridden a few times since then.

What odd little treasures did you collect as a child? Coins and stamps.

Have you experienced any earthquakes? Yes, there was a 3.2 earthquake when I was a grad student in Philly back in 1972. Tornadoes? No. Hurricanes? Yes, lots of them. the first one I really remember is Hurricane Donna back in about 1960.

Queries: Did you ever have braces? Do you need glasses (don’t we all)? Do you ride horses at all? When was the last time you rode a bike? What odd little treasures did you collect as a child? Have you experienced any earthquakes? Tornadoes? Hurricanes? Who’s the leader of the club that’s made for you and me?

    Braces, no.

Glasses, yes, but not until my mid 40s.  The crossword puzzle clues tipped me off.

I have ridden a horse, once.

Probably last rode a bike in the ’80s.  I used to ride one to work sometimes.  Also, the beach has bike rentals.

Odd treasures… not showing up in my memory banks.

Very small earthquakes in California; one rather large one centered in VA.  Many hurricanes.  Matter of fact, when we had the earthquake, we had a hurricane the same week, which made us feel very special, indeed.  No tornadoes, thank goodness.  They scare me more than anything.

    M-o-t-l-e-y M-o-o-s-e!

Seriously? I can’t wear white t-shirts. OK, technically I can wear white t-shirts but only for about 15 minutes after which they are inevitably no longer white t-shirts.

    I love this:

Maybe we don’t need high capacity magazines. If you think you’re out of bullets, try cleaning your gun. Many people find an extra that way.

    – David Waldman (@KagroX) February 10, 2013

For those who don’t follow David, he has been tweeting gun deaths and/or accidents for the last few months and it is amazing how many ‘oops, shot self or family member while cleaning gun’ accidents he has recorded.

Did you ever have braces? Yep. I had braces on when I graduated college. Of course, I was 37 at the time (a little slow, I am it).

Do you need glasses (don’t we all)? Yep again. Needed distance glasses from childhood, had laser vision correction. Now need reading glasses.

Do you ride horses at all? Nope. Until I had my weight loss surgery a couple of years ago I was over 300 lbs. Never felt it was fair to the horse.

When was the last time you rode a bike? A couple of weeks ago. I got a new bike for Christmas (physically got it mid-January) but it has only been warm enough to ride it once since I picked it up.

What odd little treasures did you collect as a child? Pretty rocks.

Have you experienced any earthquakes? Tornadoes? Hurricanes?

Hurricanes, yes. Tornadoes, no. Earthquakes? Well I’m actually a little miffed about that. We had a small one here a couple years ago (the one that damaged the Washington Monument) but I was on the shipping yard slab at the time and didn’t feel it. Folks in the building I work in did, but me…nuthin’.

  4. pittiepat

died down. The wind came up after the rain left and we had gusts up to 45 mph.

Did you ever have braces?  Yes, as an adult.  Got ’em in my mid 30s.

Do you need glasses (don’t we all)? I’ve worn glasses since I was 18 months old, so that means I’ve worn them for about 70 years.

Do you ride horses at all? Not since 1982.  We were in Scotland and the owner of our wonderful hotel outside Inverness accommodated our horse riding requests by booking us for 2 hours — on an English saddle.  We ate dinner standing up.

When was the last time you rode a bike? Not since leaving junior high school in the 1950s.

What odd little treasures did you collect as a child?  Can’t think of anything.  Too busy keeping my nose in a book to think about collecting stuff.

Have you experienced any earthquakes? All three.  Earthquake while still living in St. Louis (New Madrid fault), a number of tornado near misses in both Missouri and Texas, and Hurricane Alicia (1980?) while living in Houston.

  5. Its the Supreme Court Stupid

recognizing the independence of Vatican City, the German Pope announces his resignation.  Coincidence?  I think NOT!

Meanwhile, in a different part of Gotham:

Did you ever have braces? Yup.

Do you need glasses (don’t we all)? Just call me four eyes

Do you ride horses at all? Yup.  Taught horseback riding at a summer camp as a teen.

When was the last time you rode a bike? About 1 1/2 years ago

What odd little treasures did you collect as a child? Baseball cards

Have you experienced any earthquakes? Tornadoes? Hurricanes?  No tornadoes (unlesss of beef), but

    and

  6. Jk2003

Braces:  yes, and headgear and teeth pulled cause they just didn’t fit in my damn mouth.  I still have a permanent retainer cemented to my bottom teeth.  It’s been there for 22 years.

Glasses:  yep, but my prescription hasn’t changed i three years, now I wait for the need for bifocals

Horses:  not a big fan of horses.  Took riding as a kid.  In vet school I came to dislike both horses and their money obsessed owners ( we saw a lot of racing quarter horses). Not people I enjoyed, to say the least.

Bike riding:  last summer with the kids. Our daughter leaned on a balance bike and that got her on a two wheeler at four.  My son will start on the balance bike this summer.  I love riding bikes.

Kid collection:  not much, we moved a lot so we didn’t have stuff.  It has carried through to adulthood.

Earthquake:  yep, a couple in Alaska and two here in Illinois

Tornado:  I have lived in OK for a total of 11 years of my life.  Plenty of tornadoes.  Including the big one though I was far enough away for it not to affect me, except to distract me from studying.  It was finals week dammit!

Hurricane:  when I was very young we lived in West Point New York and had a hurricane.  My mom remembers it vividly.  I got nothin.

Blizzards, draughts, heat waves, yep, yep, yep. I like weather

  7. Did you ever have braces?

    Yes.

Do you need glasses (don’t we all)?

    Yes. Since age 3.

Do you ride horses at all?

    No.

When was the last time you rode a bike?

What odd little treasures did you collect as a child?

    Baseball cards.

Also, for a while around age 13 I was collecting offerings from “massage parlors”

    Have you experienced any earthquakes?

There was a tiny one in NYC a few years ago.

    Tornadoes?

    No

    Hurricanes?

Closest was Sandy which wasn’t quite a hurricane, but almost, when it hit us.

  8. Floja Roja

    with the Pope’s resignation.

Lots of applications for the job:

*@ColbertforSC*: Reporting for duty, Vatican City!

*@Wolfrum*: They need a new Pope? I’m still officially Catholic, you knw. And I look good in costumes.

*@AndrewGatto*: I’d make an excellent Pope.

Or people making guesses about the next one:

*@PastorDan* GOP working on voter suppression scheme to get Abp. Chaput elected pope.

    And warnings about that:

*@emptywheel*: Remember, whoever replaces Benedict controls 6 votes on SCOTUS.

    Or suggesting new Post-Pontiff gigs:

*@cliffschecter*: Remember, with Palin & Morris gone, open spot for #Pope as FoxNews contributor.

  9. Did you ever have braces?

    – no, but could still use a bit on the lower deck.

Do you need glasses (don’t we all)?

    – since age 12. Need to cross the bridge to bifocals soon (now) but impotently resisting.

Do you ride horses at all?

    – a bit. As a scout in Colorado went riding and went back to the same place a lot on my own. After a few times the owners let me take a huge, white, saucy stallion named Snowball out and he became “my” horse. Charging along with Snowball was incredibly liberating and exhilarating, and probably helped me stand up to the bullies in the end.

When was the last time you rode a bike?

    – the fall.

What odd little treasures did you collect as a child?

    – lead soldiers

    Have you experienced any earthquakes?

    – one that I noticed, in Tokyo. The streetlight outside the window of an American bar (where locals came to practice English) started swaying and I thought it had been hit.

    Tornadoes?

    – a couple near misses. Watched an inverted pyramid rotate over my head from the roof of our house in West Chicago in 1978. Rode the dock in front of Donna’s family cottage tucked like a ski racer until the moment before it and all others were wiped out, a tornado touched down a few miles away just then.

    Hurricanes?

    – brushes. Slept in a hammock on my brother’s porch in Key West as one banded over. Hugo took out massive chunks of tree in our yard in Greer, SC but veered and hammered Charlotte. Had the canal swell and fill our yard on Siesta Key, Fla once to the edge of the porch.

  10. Avilyn

Went out last night to clear snow off the cars in advance of work Monday morning; fell on the ice and crunched my ankle underneath me.  Hurts like the blazes, and I might be going to urgent care for an xray later.

Did you ever have braces? Do you need glasses (don’t we all)? Do you ride horses at all? When was the last time you rode a bike? What odd little treasures did you collect as a child? Have you experienced any earthquakes? Tornadoes? Hurricanes?

    Had braces

Verily on the glasses (can’t see more than two inches in front of my face without them), although sometimes I go with contacts instead

Have ridden horses occasionally; last time was maybe 5 years or so ago.  Nothing formal, just trail rides.

Collecting as a child?  Umm…  stuffed animals, books?

Had that minor earthquake a couple of years ago; the one that started in Virginia and was felt up to like Boston.  No tornadoes.  Hurricanes, yes – first I remember was Hurricane Gloria in 1985 I think it was.  Most recently superstorm Sandy.

Cantor: “Obama proposed the sequester because he didn’t believe the GOP would destroy the economy on purpose. So if we do, it’s his fault”

Certain democrats think like that, too, just saying.

    ***

I wore braces about 20 years ago.

Glasses and/or contact lenses since I was 13.

I had a friend who lived on a farm and went horseback riding a number of times, but not since then.

Been a few years since I rode a bike.

    I don’t think I collected anything as a child.

Hurricanes- though they didn’t hit our areas directly over the years, we did experience the effects a number of times, most notably Charley in 2005 when we lived in Naples, FL, about 1.5 hours south of where Charley made landfall and lost power for 5 days. Tornadoes, ditto. Earthquake- there was one last year about 30 miles from here, but I didn’t notice it.

  12. slksfca

It started with a toy steam engine from the early 20th century that made real steam, which my mother bought me from a thrift store. Then my great-uncle from Idaho sent me some arrowheads and a gold nugget. On a trip to California’s gold country, my parents bought me a pair of 19th-century gold-rimmed spectacles which I treasured for years. Then in high school Mom used to take me to rummage sales with her and at one I bought a 1934 Philco floor radio for $2.00. I bought it in 1970 and it sits in my living room today.

  13. JG in MD

Braces? Yes, and I’m grateful to my parents. My teeth didn’t fit my mouth.

Glasses? From the time I was five or six. Mother realized I couldn’t see, took me to the optometrist and when he put the letters up (I could read), I’m told, I said “Puppies?” I couldn’t hear either. Wax. Poor Mother. I can only imagine how she felt.

I’ve loved the few times I’ve ridden horses. Once was on the beach at Santa Barbara about 1970. Sigh.

Bicycle? No, I’m afraid of them. My legs are so short I can’t ride a normal bike.

Odd treasures? I inherited an uncle’s stamp collection when I was a kid. “Magyar Posta” has a poetic ring to it. I learned some geography too.

Weather? I remember that little earthquake Here Near DC, and the hurricane the same week. Lots of hurricanes over the years. I once saw a tornado in the distance in Virginia.

  14. Floja Roja

    Did you ever have braces?

Boy did I! 4 years. Because I was a vain little tween and refused to wear my headgear (mine went across the neck AND over the head) so they actually had to wire it on for a while to get me to comply. Then a dentist when I was an adult removed my built in retainer on the lower teeth and my bite went to hell, so now I have Invisaligns.

Do you need glasses (don’t we all)?

I got my first ones in 2nd grade, cute litte aqua cat-eyes with little rhinestones in the corners. I never wore them. Too vain (I had nothing to be vain about until I was about 17). When I was finally able to get contacts in my teens it was wonderful. Suddenly I could see all my friends! So, that’s what they looked like!  Now I only wear the contacts outside (so I can wear sunglasses on sunny days or not get my lenses rained on on rainy days) and wear glasses in the office or at home. I have reading glasses and distance glasses, but I really should get the combo. My eyes are so bad that I like tiny lenses because the bigger ones weigh too much.

Do you ride horses at all?

I rode my then BFF’s horse bareback a couple of times, then visited friends who had a farm much later and rode on a saddle (Western) once. It felt odd to me being on the saddle, like I wasn’t part of the horse. Bareback I felt part of the horse and it felt much more secure.

When was the last time you rode a bike?

Maybe 20 years? A friend offered me hers during the last bus strike, but that would have required riding over a considerable hill, so I declined. I can walk hills, but the muscles for riding bikes up them are not there.

What odd little treasures did you collect as a child?

    Rocks. Miniature things. Shells.

    Have you experienced any earthquakes?

Loads! My current batch of cats hasn’t been through one yet, I am not looking forward to that.

Tornadoes? I missed the one that hit the L.A. Convention Center, and got to experience a warning while attending a Mad Men party at kirbybruno’s place outside of Chicago.

    Hurricanes?

Just the drink. The Pacific here isn’t warm enough, yet.

  15. cassandracarolina

Braces? Yes, thanks Mom & Dad. My teeth were nearly perpendicular to one another in my diminutive jaw rather than the usual parallel, so 4 were extracted, the rest responded to painful but necessary orthodontics.

Glasses? Yeah, for reading, computer, crosswords, etc. I selected a set of frames that the woman at the optometrist’s office said were all wrong for my face, and I get many compliments on them. So there!

Horses? My mother rode, and her mother was an expert rider. My Uncle and cousins on dad’s side ride and have kept horses even through challenging economic times. But moi? Horses kinda freak me out, other than to watch them.

Last time I rode a bike? Before my osteoporosis diagnosis. I have the hips of an elderly person, and I now visualize them disintegrating as I fall off my bike.

Odd little treasures? Beach glass, which I have collected for most of my life now.

Earthquakes? Tornadoes? Hurricanes? YES! An earthquake in Massachusetts in the 1990s – I was sitting in a restaurant and people remarked that it felt like a train going by. While living in NH, a microburst tornado took out a bit of my roof and shrubbery. I have been through hurricanes in MA, NH, NC, and TX.

  16. ILS 27L

Did you ever have braces? No,but I wanted them. May get’em one day

Do you need glasses (don’t we all)?Had 20/15 til I hit 40 then needed cheaters, by 50 had trifocals…which need updating…again!

Do you ride horses at all? I LOVE hawsies, but mostly like big dogs…I like to be around them, clean feed pet walk etc.etc. and I have ridden them, been thrown, and gotten back on, but mostly I just like to be around them.

When was the last time you rode a bike? I think Lincoln was…. Late 90’s I think

What odd little treasures did you collect as a child? Grandmama was a teller and got me new coins when they appeared..Eisenhower half and Kennedy whole dollar coins sealed in plastic..Post Marked two dollar bill on first day of issue.

Have you experienced any earthquakes? Several, the biggest was a 6.7 in Seattle around 2002. The building shook for more than two minutes, the news said the quake was 40 seconds…both are true. Turns out the fiftyish story building, I was on the 13th floor, is built on shock absorbers…who knew?

Tornadoes? Yep…wiped out houses 500 meters away and left me unscathed.

Hurricanes? Not only experienced them, I’ve flown in two, the trick is to avoid the thunderstorms. We had St. Elmo’s fire all over the windshield and tip tanks…It was really cool, but when we opened the door we were completely soaked to the bone in seconds.

    Back to unpacking

    Mmmoooooo
