set off the usual chain of pleasant associations for me. I never hear his name without thinking of The Kermess,

    Photobucket

and I never think of the painting without thinking of William Carlos Williams’ poem “The Dance,” an excellent example of translating a painting into words.

The Dance ~ William Carlos Williams

In Brueghel’s great picture, The Kermess,

the dancers go round, they go round and

around, the squeal and the blare and the

tweedle of bagpipes, a bugle and fiddles

tipping their bellies (round as the thick-

sided glasses whose wash they impound)

their hips and their bellies off balance

to turn them. Kicking and rolling

about the Fair Grounds, swinging their butts, those

shanks must be sound to bear up under such

rollicking measures, prance as they dance

in Brueghel’s great picture, The Kermess.

They were the house band at the Dom where I worked as a waitress (downstairs from the Electric Circus)

    Those were interesting times. ๐Ÿ™‚

Eggs: over medium; Pancakes: thin; Waffles: syrup; Coffee: when I’m in the mood, I guess tan to whiteish. Potatoes: depends on the mood, I like both. Either Bacon or sausage.

Cooking bacon and biscuits with gravy right now, making omelet for mr. r.

  11. bubbanomics

Eggs: scrambled with sauteed peppers and onions

Pancakes: thin with bits of sausage cooked right in.

    Waffles: Syrup

    Juice: Cran

    Coffee: Black

Potatoes: sliced thin almost like potato chips, pan fried. Bacon, Sausage, and country ham.

  12. DeniseVelez

    Eggs: scrambled

    Pancakes: Fat

    Waffles: Syrup

    Juice: none

    Coffee: Bustelo

Potatoes: home fries (made in a cast iron pan)

    Bacon – thick

but I don’t see anyone talking about biscuits and grits ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Eggs: Over easy, medium, or well? over easy

Pancakes: Fat or thin? Thin? Crepes darn it. I’m married to a Frenchman

Waffles: Syrup, fruit, or what? Real maple syrup, but fruit is best with crepes.

Juice: OJ, Bloody Mary, or Mimosa? Yes, but not for breakfast

Coffee: Black or tan or white? Black – no sugar

Potatoes: Hash browns or home fries? Home fries w/ mayo

Bacon, Sausage, or fake stuff made to resemble meat? Yes to all.

Left off the list. My normal breakfast (when I bother) is bacon, scrambled eggs, and refried beans in a tortilla with enough hot sauce to make me cry and not that vinegar infused stuff out of a bottle either. It’s gotta be fresh made fresh.

Hope everyone has had a relaxing weekend. We finally got the last of Christmas packed up and hauled up into the attic. I love Rubbermaid boxes…so much easier to contend with (as opposed to cardboard boxes with torn flaps and saggy bottoms).

    Some Answers?

soda and violence? It’s not brand new, but I just stumbled upon it today. Interesting read:

    Soda and Violence Study

ALREADY IMPLICATED in the obesity and diabetes epidemics, soda may be linked to violence in young people, new research suggests. In a study of 1,878 students at Boston public high schools, heavy soda drinkers were much more prone to violent behavior than other teens.

Does this surprise anyone? Do you have personal experience with this phenomenon?
