I get it: they lost (again) and they’re pissed. HCR is now the law of the land, but this is nothing less than terrorism:
Federal and local authorities are investigating a severed gas line at the home of U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello’s brother, discovered the day after Tea Party activists posted the address online so opponents could “drop by” and “express their thanks” for Perriello’s vote in favor of health care reform.
The gas line to the home’s propane tank was slashed, according to sources who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The incident is being viewed as an attempted threat to a member of congress, sources said….
Danville Tea Party leader Nigel Coleman was one of the activists who posted the home’s address online Monday.
Yet another escalation in the ever growing pattern of racially charged imagery, violent rhetoric, and paranoid conspiracy theories born of the GOP’s so-called ‘grassroots’ supporters. If these are grassroots, this nation needs a healthy fucking dose of Round-Up.
But the Teabagger is stunned, I say, stunned:
Coleman said he is “shocked” and “almost speechless” at the possibility that someone would sever the propane line to Perriello’s brother’s house.
“I obviously condemn these actions,” he said. “I would hope that people aren’t thinking about doing anything crazy. We just wanted people to get close to the congressman and have their voices heard. Violence is not going to answer anything. I’m a little shocked and amazed.”
Coleman added that he is not certain that the incident is related to the posting of the home’s address. “Of course, we don’t know this is a related event,” he said.
Yeah, right. Bullshit:
To recap, a blog run by Lynchburg tea party organizer Mike Troxel published the home address of Perriello’s brother (thinking, incorrectly, that it was the congressman’s address) encouraging teabaggers to “drop by and say hi and express their thanks regarding his vote for health care.” In case you missed it, that’s teabagger “humor,” since Periello voted for reform.
Shocked alright. So much so, he adds:
When Coleman learned the address was actually Perriello’s brother’s – Politico reported he and his wife have four young children – Coleman commented on another blog that the mistake was “collateral damage.”
“Do you mean I posted his brother’s address on my Facebook?” Coleman wrote. “Oh well, collateral damage.”
This event comes on the heels of other violence tinged asshattery from the likes of Sarah Palin:
Sarah Palin is targeting — yes, with gun sights — House Democrats facing tough reelection fights who voted for health care reform.
Palin’s Facebook page now carries a map featuring 20 gun sights, one for each of the Democrats targeted this year by her political action committee SarahPAC. Three of the gun sights, those where incumbent Democrats have already announced their retirement, are colored red.
Palin directed Agrosaurs to Facebook (her megaphone of choice) via Twitter.
The Facebook post reads:
We’ll aim for these races and many others. This is just the first salvo in a fight to elect people across the nation who will bring common sense to Washington. Please go to sarahpac.com and join me in the fight.
Emphasis: Aim. Salvo. Fight. Fight.
Republican leaders and officials have actively courted this nutzoid element with their fear-mongering, coded racism, talk of tyranny, treason, and Armageddon. The GOP must face down this monster they have helped make, before they are lost forever, mired in the fever swamp. Should violence befall the innocent at the hands of some cretin inspired by by the GOP’s onslaught of supercharged bullshit, may all those that have contributed to such senseless rage be held culpable.
