Today, I answer ALL the interrogatories, something I almost never do. 🙂

After you have pried your eyes open, what is the first thing you do when you wake up?

Stumble to kitchen, where I turn on the gas flame under the steamkettle. Get that coffee into production tout de suite!

    Are you frugal or profligate?

Becoming quite frugal in my old age, though still not entirely immune to the blandishments of silly impulse purchases.

What is the earliest memory from your childhood?

Traumatic, I’m afraid. Lying in a hospital crib, crying, after having undergone emergency tonsillectomy at 18 months or so.

What did you want to grow up to be when you were little?

For awhile it was secret agent. This was in the early ’60s.

Do you sing in the shower, and if so, what do you sing?

I don’t, anymore. But nearly EVERY morning I wake up from humming some snippet of melody as soundtrack to dreams. Weird.

  2. After you have pried your eyes open, what is the first thing you do when you wake up? Make the bed so I won’t be tempted to go back in it.

Are you frugal or profligate? In between

What is the earliest memory from your childhood? Breaking my little finger when I was three.

What did you want to grow up to be when you were little? An actress

Do you sing in the shower, and if so, what do you sing? Sometimes. Lately it is what is on Josh Groban’s new album.

My St. Patrick’s Day picture for this year is Irish Clouds

After you have pried your eyes open, what is the first thing you do when you wake up? Are you frugal or profligate? What is the earliest memory from your childhood? What did you want to grow up to be when you were little? Do you sing in the shower, and if so, what do you sing?

First thing:  try to pretend I don’t have to get up.

    Frugal or profligate:  frugal

Earliest memory:  a red and white checked tablecloth at a pizza place near West Point, New York when I was three.

Wanted to be a dancer and a lawyer.  Weird.

Do you sing in the shower:  yep, yesterday it was depeche mode.  Today it will be something from les miz because the anniversary concert was on PBS yesterday afternoon and I can’t get those damn songs out of my head.

  4. As to getting stuff done, there’s plenty on my list. Good luck with your own list.

After you have pried your eyes open, what is the first thing you do when you wake up?

Either reach for Jim or head for the bathroom.

    Are you frugal or profligate?

Frugal primarily, but I’ve been working on being more moderate. Hedonism is an attractive idea in some ways.

What is the earliest memory from your childhood?

Assassination of JFK. I’d just turned 3.

What did you want to grow up to be when you were little?

Not sure about when I was little, but when I was in high school I thought it would be the coolest thing to be a pilot. Funny, now that Son is heading for his pilot training in May.

Do you sing in the shower, and if so, what do you sing?

    I do not sing.

After you have pried your eyes open, what is the first thing you do when you wake up? Walk directly to the coffee machine and get a cup of coffee.

Are you frugal or profligate? frugal

What is the earliest memory from your childhood? A willow tree in our backyard.

What did you want to grow up to be when you were little? A quarterback for the Chicago Bears. Crazy!!

Do you sing in the shower, and if so, what do you sing? Nope, n/a.

After you have pried your eyes open, what is the first thing you do when you wake up? Remove cat claw from face.

Are you frugal or profligate? Very frugal but not extreme like some I’ve met. I think being a skinflint when you’re rich is an insult to the poor. I once knew a successful businesswoman who… but you get the idea.

What is the earliest memory from your childhood? I can no longer tell the memories from the photographs and family stories.

What did you want to grow up to be when you were little? I hate to say this, but… a secretary. I didn’t know any better. In those days it was help wanted men and help wanted women.

Do you sing in the shower, and if so, what do you sing? “You’ve got to be carefully taught.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v

(Would someone embed this for me? It’s an important song for our times and a tuneful one, easy to sing. Kthxbai.)

After you have pried your eyes open, what is the first thing you do when you wake up?  During the week?  Get out of bed, turn off the beeping alarm clock, turn on the radio, and then get back in bed.  Weekends?  Eh, half the time I roll over & go back to sleep; the other times I come downstairs in search of caffeine.

Are you frugal or profligate?  In the middle.  Depends on how big a purchase it is.

What is the earliest memory from your childhood?  Being at a rodeo with my family, with my brother having his leg in a cast propped up on the bleachers.

What did you want to grow up to be when you were little?  An astronaut, a vet, a mommy, and Princess Leia.

Do you sing in the shower, and if so, what do you sing? Nope.

  8. After you have pried your eyes open, what is the first thing you do when you wake up?

Look at the clock to see how early I’ve woken up and whether to get out of bed.

    Are you frugal or profligate?

Depends on what I am buying/doing with my money.

What is the earliest memory from your childhood?

I vaguely remember jumping up and down on the cot during nap time at pre-school.

What did you want to grow up to be when you were little?

It varied. I remember thinking that Supreme Court Justice would be a good job – can’t be fired, lots of time off and you get to do interesting stuff a lot. Later on I wanted to be a mathematician. I don’t remember what I wanted to be when I was very little.

OTOH, I asked my younger son what he wanted to be when he grew up – nowadays he says artist, but once he said “big”.

Do you sing in the shower, and if so, what do you sing?

    No

    Here are a few answers:

After you have pried your eyes open, what is the first thing you do when you wake up? Look for coffee. I am not human without it.

Are you frugal or profligate? A bit of both. I live a pretty frugal life. My car is over 10 years old, and my house (aka falling down acres) is paid for. I have spent money on a few things. I have a few nice pieces of jewelry, including three made by aji’s husband, Wings, and I have some nice ceramics. Even with substantial financial aid, it has cost me a lot to send my three kids to college.

What is the earliest memory from your childhood? Hitting my head on the faucet in the bathtub. My dad was trying to take pictures of my in the tub. UGH. This is one of the reasons that there are very few photos of me as an adult. I hate being photographed.

What did you want to grow up to be when you were little? An archaeologist, actually.

Do you sing in the shower, and if so, what do you sing? No, I don’t sing anywhere. I have the worst voice in the universe. I am not kidding about this.

After you have pried your eyes open, what is the first thing you do when you wake up? Make coffee

Are you frugal or profligate? frugal but married to a profligite 🙂

which is why I’m in charge of the bank accountd.

What is the earliest memory from your childhood? My dump truck that I played with in the sandbox

What did you want to grow up to be when you were little? an archaeologist – we used to walk (my mom and I) to the Brooklyn museum each week, and I fell in love with things ancient.

Do you sing in the shower, and if so, what do you sing? Yup.  Mostly do-wops, but also folk songs.

One of my favorites is in Gaelic – though the subject matter is sad I love belting this out

  11. anotherdemocrat

After you have pried your eyes open, what is the first thing you do when you wake up? turn off the alarm, then the CD player that plays an ocean waves cd overnight (to cover parking lot & upstairs neighbor noise)

Are you frugal or profligate?  Yes. Starts & stops on being financially responsible.

What is the earliest memory from your childhood? The neighbors we had in Nederland (age 3 to the middle of 1st grade) had really mean Siamese cats. The girls across the street ironing their hair & telling me how lucky I was that my hair was so straight.

What did you want to grow up to be when you were little? an astronaut (too bad I can’t do math)

Do you sing in the shower, and if so, what do you sing? No, but I sing in the car all the time. Lots of U2, also Michael Franti, Snow Patrol, Black Keys, Depeche Mode….

Happy Sunday, Bombadillos! I am going to try to get something done today (outside of diaries). Wish me luck, willya?

My plan for the weekend was to do my taxes, but I see that dream slipping away.  I did make it to the gym, though!

After you have pried your eyes open, what is the first thing you do when you wake up? Are you frugal or profligate? What is the earliest memory from your childhood? What did you want to grow up to be when you were little? Do you sing in the shower, and if so, what do you sing?

I look at the clock and hope it’s Saturday or Sunday.

I don’t go to extremes either way, but I think I’m a little on the profligate side.

I have a few from when I was about three.  One is that it had snowed, and that I was disappointed that my dad had to go to work instead of playing with me.  Another is of playing with a weird kid named Ross.  We were crawling around in the yard, pretending we were goats (or something), and Ross butted his head through the basement window.  I don’t think he cut himself, but I distinctly remember his mother picking shards of glass out of his hair.

I wanted to be a missionary, and run a hospital in Africa, like Albert Schweitzer.

I don’t sing in the shower.  Perhaps I oughta.

Good morning…..The Corrs music is new to me, so I’ve got lots to listen to. This song is my kind of “Irish Music” for St. Patrick’s Day.

  14. cassandracarolina

First thing in the morning? Check e-mail and news on iPad and look longingly at the web cams at my Carolina house.

Frugal or profligate? Frugal! It’s that discipline that allowed us to build the Carolina house and move there later this year. When you have a financial plan, every little bit of economizing suddenly makes much more sense, and does not seem like a sacrifice.

Earliest childhood memory? Cutting my hand on a metal garden chair, and my mother calling down from the upstairs window, “is it bleeding”? Hey, I was a kid! I didn’t know what “bleeding” meant. All I knew was that it hurt and red stuff was coming out.

Wanted to be while growing up? Marine biologist. I loved loved loved dolphins, but realized that with my luck, I’d end up studying sea cucumbers or some other hideous invertebrates. However, in 1995, I dragged Mr. Carolina to the Florida Keys where we swam with dolphins which was my life-long dream and it was absolutely awesome!

Sing in the shower? Oh, indeed, and dance along, usually to some tune I just heard on TV or some upbeat oldie.
