In 1693, A charter was granted for the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA.

In 1865, Delaware voters rejected the Thirteenth Amendment, and voted to continue the practice of slavery. (They finally ratified the amendment on February 12, 1901.)

    Now all I can think about is the many traits I DID inherit from one parent or the other. A day late, a dollar short. ;-p

    My favorite birds to watch are penquins, hands down. I’ve stared at various penguin cams for hours on end, utterly fascinated.

    I have never been anyone but me in any (alleged) past life. But I had a boyfriend who was born days after Marilyn Monroe died, and he was convinced that he was her reincarnation. Well, doubtful – though he certainly had a smouldering sensuality about him. 😉

    This one is, which traits did you NOT inherit – one that you are glad you didn’t inherit and one that you wish you had inherited?  I am not sure that it is heritable, but I did not inherit my dad’s right-wing politics. My dad was a real wingnut. I wish I had inherited my mom’s grace. She was a better person that I ever will be.

    Were you someone famous in a past life? If yes, who, and if not, make up a good one. I don’t have a good answer for this one. My initial thought was Marie Curie, but I would not want to die the way she did.

    Where are you on the scale between fastidious and sloppy? Fairly sloppy in my private life, but quite fastidious in my professional life.

    What is your favorite bird to watch? I love watching the cardinals at the bird feeder.

    What epitaph would you like on your headstone? “Nothing bad will happen is I go to Egypt for only two weeks.” Explanation–the first year I went to work in Egypt my mom broke her hip which led to her ultimate demise. The second year we saw the start of the Arab spring and our crew had to be evacuated shortly after dad and I left.

    This one is, which traits did you NOT inherit – one that you are glad you didn’t inherit and one that you wish you had inherited?  I am hoping (against hope) not to have inherited my father’s baldness.  I wish I had inherited the truly blonde hair my mother had (as for me, I’m a dirty blonde.  Meh.)

    Were you someone famous in a past life? If yes, who, and if not, make up a good one.  I was Shirely McLain, of course.

    Where are you on the scale between fastidious and sloppy?  In the middle.  Call me Sloppidious

    What is your favorite bird to watch? Turkey (roasting)

    What epitaph would you like on your headstone?

    I like Ken Kesey’s: “No Left Turn Unstoned”

    To rat lack uh suthunuh; which, f u mus know, ah am entitled tuh dew, based on mah axe yule brother’s flawda low cation. Howevah, ah naow reel eyes it may be too tarsome faw antibody to enjaw. Sew ah will naught contin ya to rat thayat whey n e maw. F eye ken helpit.

    As to these recurring traits of heredity and carryings on of that nature, or its absence, I’m urged to note a few foibles.

    My Mother could fall asleep at any time of day or night whenever she felt like it, and drink a cup of coffee and then take a nap. Even at 11 o’clock at night she’d drink a cup of coffee and go out like a light.

    My Father slept about 4 hrs a night for ever.

    People in a school wanted me to personify as rembrandt; which I dismissed but didn’t forget and later on saw a glimpse of what they were imagining. I don’t have any past lives anecdotes. There was a young, unusually shy with most people child who said she knew me in a previous life one time. I never mentioned that to her family. They thought she was slow. In fact, she was extremely sensitive and intelligent and merely overwhelmed with the impressions she was processing while watching so many bigger people all around her. I told her Father not to worry, and suggested that nobody should push her faster than she wanted to go. What a great little girl! Nothin was wrong with her.

    What didn’t I inherit from my parents? I didn’t inherit Mom’s prejudice. I wish I had inherited Dad’s scientific mind so I could be working in the aerospace industry. Past life? Oscar Wilde just so I could be totally outrageous. Pretty far on the fastidious side mainly because of allergies to house dust and mold. I plan on being cremated with my ashes strewn over the ocean but if I had an epitaph it would be “I did it my way.”

    If I come back I want to come back as Pixie who has now taken over the quilt and unicorn.

    It would have been nice to get some of my father’s ambition. I am glad I didn’t inherit my mother’s…. well LOTS of things.

    Were you someone famous in a past life?

    One life per person.

    If yes, who, and if not, make up a good one.

    I think being Bertrand Russell would have been cool, but he died after I was born. How many people managed to protest against WW I and Vietnam war?  But, for someone long dead, Euler. One of history’s greatest mathematicians, and, at the same time, a loving husband and father and (from all accounts) a nice and normal guy.

    Where are you on the scale between fastidious and sloppy?

    Sloppy.  But I don’t leave food lying around.

    What is your favorite bird to watch?

    There are different birds???? Kidding. But, living in NYC and being nearsighted are not traits conducive to birdwatching. I’m also impatient.

    Here Peter Flom’s corpse will lie

    If, perchance, he should someday die.

    Good morning…..I’ve been enjoying the eTown channel on YouTube, and the eTown website is interesting as well….

    My dad’s baldness, I guess. LOL. I got my thick hair from my mom. Wish I got? Can’t think of anything because I got a little from both.

    Well, I’m not a neat freak, but when the house starts getting cluttered up with this and that, like dog toys all over the house, stuff mr. r. leaves on every available surface, etc, it starts to bug me.

    Hummingbirds. We get a LOT here. The hummer warz are entertaining, when they start to claim a feeder for themselves- we have several- and no one else can use it.

    Boys Scout Day…If they were hoping to lay low after all the hoopla, I think it’s a case of guess again!

    Q&A….These did some serious thought stirring in the gray matter…

    Traits: I’m thankful I didn’t inherited my father’s absolutism. He was a solid military man, one vision, one way to do things and by golly that’s the way it was. Thankfully my mother managed to soften that a bit when it came to my siblings and me.

    I wish I had inherited my mother’s easy way with people. That woman could walk into a room of strangers and in hour she would be able to tell you something about everyone in there. Social graces–she had them, in spades!

    On being famous and who I would want to be: Nope. No one famous just me. Who would I want to be? My first thought was Jane Austen, but honestly women were so tightly controlled then, so my next thought was a fictional character–The Madwoman of Chaillot…Raging against social demands and constraints at time when women were relegated to specific roles and stayed in the roles come what may. Think the first Red Hat Lady :o)

    Birds: I enjoy watching the hummingbirds every spring and summer. But I also enjoy watching my chickens when I’m on the porch and they make for great confidants, never have divulged a single rant I’ve shared with them.

    Sloppy or Fastidious: I’m not sloppy, but I’m not a neatnik either…My housekeeping philosophy: Clean enough to keep it healthy, messy enough to be comfortable and presentable enough that I’m never worried about inviting someone into my home.

    Epitaph: Laugh,live,Love, she did all three. (Yes, it’s dime novel mushy, but it’s heart felt.)

    I did not inherit the religion gene.  Keep in mind that my mother was very devout, and the church was her life, and that I went to church and Sunday school and youth groups and retreats until I was about 17.  So now I’m thinking that environment doesn’t do it alone!  Anyhow, an exposure to college allowed me to discover my scientific, skeptical self (which was already in evidence, but not fully formed).  Take that, Rick Santorum!

    One that I wish I had inherited?  Nah, I think I got enough.
