Since 2008 – Progress Through Politics

Tuesday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

64 and raining here in Saugerties NY.

Drinking coffee, scanning the news…then will hunker down to finish up my Tuesday writing.

Hope the rest of you have better weather 🙂

  2. What the heck is going on there???

On Monday, Sen. Phillip Puckett (D) resigned abruptly, flipping the majority to the GOP by a 20-19 margin. The Washington Post reported Sunday that his decision to step down would get him a job with the GOP-led tobacco commission and that his daughter would be approved for a judgeship. But in a twist, the news about Puckett’s intentions led to a firestorm of controversy that reportedly caused him to withdraw his name from consideration and motivated the commission to cancel its meeting this week to discuss the possibility of hiring him.

I guess that Medicaid expansion was a longshot anyway (400,000 Virginians would have benefited from it … I hope they vote) but now it is impossible. Legalized bribery?

Last night was really fun. Seriously, if you have any geekish tendencies at all, if Pat Rothfuss is doing an appearance near you, go. Even if you haven’t read his books. He’s funny & talks about all kinds of things. Find him on Goodreads & read his review of a Roald Dahl book– this will tell you what kind of person he is.

Sleepy but at least not painfully so. I took a muscle relaxer, 10 mg of melatonin and some herbal thing last night. That’s what it takes for actual sleep. Plus the rain cd, a/c turned down to (what seems ridiculously extravagant) 70. Sigh. And it even was raining last night.

I’m either going to the gym or walking in my neighborhood this evening. Probably the latter. I need to water my plants – they are under the cover of the walkway so they didn’t get rained on. But maybe exercise will help with the not sleeping thing.

My plans to be outdoors yesterday were disrupted by computer woes. An email from Comcast re a possible bot in our system sent me to Justin, who gave me the link to a scanning program and two of the six computers in the house were “infected.” All the computers are now scanned, updated, cookies cleaned, etc but just in case I’ll take the two suspect laptops to him today for further inspection.

So my afternoon was no fun at all and how did we acquire so many computers anyway!

and definitely soggier than the “new normal”.  I’m happy to take it, if not to be out in it, though – our lakes aren’t as low as points west, but they aren’t full either.

Probably last word on Grey yesterday afternoon – he was still under the effects of the tranquilizer so not sure how long this will last, but they put him in the “get acquainted” cage inside the colony enclosure and he was just laying back and taking in the scenery.  Both the colony matriarchs (according to Alita this colony is basically run by two “old girls who don’t take guff off nobody”) were right there – one snuggled next to and one on top of the cage itself – checking him out, with no adverse reactions from anybody.  So I can relax.  It was the right thing to do.

Charlie and Cloud are getting back to normal – they’d gone “off their feed” while Grey was around – and once I get the Nature’s Miracle to get rid of the “pee wars” smell and get Grey’s medical records mailed off to Alita (and pay the credit card bills) it will almost be as if he was never here.  A weird 2 weeks.  My phone stopped working the day he walked into my porch.  All my QC committee meetings were canceled.  I handed him off to Alita the day after it was fixed.  A pocket in the time/space continuum.

Enjoy the day in Moosylvania.  {{{HUGS}}} for all your support.

methinks. Probably not fun to live through, but interesting to read about. 🙂

Hope you have a good, peaceful day.

Oh, what a morning! Slept later than usual–had to rush Miss Pink Cheeks through breakfast before driving her down the road to summer day camp at Frying Pan Farm–the dog escaped–hubby went off to do an errand for Pink Cheeks’ father, completely forgetting he was supposed to take the dog to the doggy hospital for his checkup.

Alles is now gut. Going to see whether I can get some work done before lunch. Life is just too frantic, sometimes.

Now that Fairfax County doesn’t allow political signs to be put up, I completely forgot that it’s primary day all over Virginia, not just in Alexandria, Va. I think John Foust, the Democratic nominee for the 10th district of the House of Reps, is running unopposed in the primary. We’ll vote later today. Our Congressman for umpteen years has been Frank Wolf, who vowed to serve only six terms but served 15 terms. Such are the uses of power. He’s a Rethug, so it would be great to get a Dem in his seat.

The Rethug who will run for Wolf’s seat in the fall against Foust is a dismal old b*tch who voted in favor of transvaginal probes for women seeking abortions in Virginia. Hope we can put paid to her ambitions in November.

The sun has come out, a la Little Orphan Annie–everyone have a good day!
