Thursday Morning Herd Check-in

Make sure you let your peeps

  know where to find you!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary

Fierces on the Weather Critter Comment are obligatory welcome.

The morning check-in is an open thread posted to give you a place to visit with the meeses. Feel free to chat about your weather, share a bit of your life, grump (if you must), rave (if you can). The diarist du jour sometimes posts and runs, other times sticks around for a bit, often returns throughout the day and always cares that meeses are happy … or at least contented.

For those new to the Moose, Kysen left a Moose Welcome Mat (Part Deux) so, please, wipe your feet before you walk in the front door start posting.

The important stuff to get you started:

– Comments do not Auto-refresh. Click the refresh/reload on your tab to see new ones. Only click Post once for comments. When a diary’s comment threads grow, the page takes longer to refresh and the comment may not display right away.

– To check for replies to your comments, click the “My Comments” link in the right-hand column (or go to “My Moose”). Comments will be listed and a link to Recent Replies will be shown. (Note: Tending comments builds community)

– Ratings: Fierce means Thumbs Up, Fail means Thumbs Down, Meh means one of three things: I am unFailing you but I can’t Fierce you, I am unFiercing after a mistaken Fierce, … or Meh. Just Meh. (p.s. Ratings don’t bestow mojo, online behaviour does).

– The Recommended list has a prominent place on the Front Page because it reflects the interests of the Moose. When people drive-by, we want them to see what we are talking about: news, politics, science, history, personal stories, culture. The list is based on number of recs and days on the list. Per Kysen: “The best way to control Rec List content is to ONLY rec diaries you WANT to see ON the list.

– Finally, the posting rules for a new diary: “Be excellent to each other… or else

(Some other commenting/posting/tending notes for newbies can be found in this past check-in and, of course, consult Meese Mehta for all your questions on meesely decorum.)

Eating breakfast, drinking tea. There’s very light rain – I swiped the windshield wipers maybe 3 times in my 15 minute drive here. Supposed to be thunderstorms this afternoon. But east, not west where we need it for the lakes.

I’m rec’ing diaries about Nigeria, but avoiding actually reading anything because it is literally giving me nightmares. The only way to rescue these girls is if the world pays attention, so I do my little part to shout, but again – actual, literal nightmares, so I read as little as I can, headlines only.

Ok, turning up music in my head – I have my U2/Snow Patrol cd playing in my car so Snow Patrol You Are My Joy

was just looking at this good news

U.S. Women Saved $483 Million On Their Birth Control Pills Last Year

Women in the United States saved an estimated $483 million on their out-of-pocket costs for the birth control pill, according to new data from the IMS Institute on Healthcare Informatics. The health care data company found that Obamacare has “dramatically reduced” women’s out-of-pocket costs now that insurers are required to cover preventative care without charging an additional co-pay.

Compared to the data from 2012, about 24 million more birth control pill prescriptions were filled without a co-pay in 2013. That means each of the women filling those prescriptions ended up saving an average of $269. Those savings can make all the difference for women who are struggling to afford the reproductive care they need. According to the IMS Institute’s data, there was 4.6 percent increase in prescriptions for birth control between 2012 and 2013.

which I am going to pass along to women’s studies profs 🙂

today through the weekend and we’re supposed to get some rain which I will believe when I feel.  On the other hand, my yard needs mowing, my best friend who is a harpist has an outdoor wedding Saturday, and I’m doing laundry Sunday so… 🙂

Still working on summer payroll.  The amount of tracking down it takes to get the information for each person added to the time it takes to get each step through the approval chain – and did I tell you our HR system is a real-l-l-ly old program?  Like a DOS-based program?  Sigh.  Hope everybody’s Thursday is good with rain falling where it’s needed and not where it’s not.

The week and my long list are just slipping away….all I have to do is change the date and try again!

Tonight will be fun with barbecue and live music at the small tavern down town. I can go wearing my slippers and no on will notice or even care!

It’s already hazy and humid. Niece and great-nephew have just left, as it was my turn to host Morning Coffee this week. Took Pink Cheeks to the dentist yesterday and she behaved perfectly! The dentist was thrilled to hear that Granddaughter uses dental floss, even though she’s only five.

Hubby still under the weather…I’m hoping to scrape up enough energy to plant the zinnias and the rosemary today…what else…have not been writing at all because I’ve just had no energy.

Hope everyone has a nice Thor’s Day, with thunder only for those willing and ready for rain.  ðŸ™‚

in Massachusetts. It looks as though I can go to visit her in South Hadley pretty much any time after school’s out. She works for UMass Amherst; she’ll be carrying a banner for the Dept of Educ in the graduation ceremony tomorrow.

Train fare from DC to Springfield is pretty cheap for seniors. There’s a direct route, only 7 hrs, about 8 am to 3 pm. All I have to do is decide on a date.

    I’m getting excited!

I’ve been busier than a one-armed paper hanger getting all those plants I ordered in the ground.  Got the apple trees yesterday (and they are about four feet tall; much bigger than I thought they’d be) and have them in the ground but need to mulch.  Went out this am and found black mulch, I like the subtlety of it more than the other colors, so I can pile some more on top of the bit I had.

I have the last of the ordered plants due tomorrow: a tea rose, wisteria, and lavender.  I have no idea where I’m putting that lavender or why I only bought one (probably price) but I wanted lavender soooo bad and it is usually not hardy enough for my zone but I found one.

Anyway, between gardening, housework, and work (and work) I’ve been running full-out.  Have a whole day off on Sunday, though.  First since mid-March.
