Wednesday Watering Hole: Check In & Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind.

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The common Moose, Alces alces, unlike other members of the deer family, is a solitary animal that doesn’t form herds. Not so its rarer but nearest relative, Alces purplius, the Motley Moose. Though sometimes solitary, the Motley Moose herds in ever shifting groups at the local watering hole to exchange news and just pass the time.

The morning check-in is an open thread and general social hour.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

They say it’s only supposed to go to 84 but I have a suspicion it’ll get hotter. We’ve beat our predicted highs a lot recently.

Meetings today at work. I hate meetings.

  2. It is 66 degrees here on its way up to 70. Showers expected later in the day.

The castratin’ braggin’ woman won the Iowa Republican Senate primary!! And she is being called “The Sarah Palin of Iowa”!!! Bring popcorn.

And lookie here: “Establishment Republicans Take Back Control of Party from Tea Party Insurgents” is only a one-week meme. From the party that has rejected science and history, and their own statements of a couple of years ago last month, it turns out that they were a bit premature. Mississippi Senate Primary: Neo-confederate Teapartier McDaniel 49.6 Establishment Republican Cochran 48.9. It will go to a runoff.

I feel a news post coming on. See all y’alls in a bit!

    for winter.

Cochran in a run off! Wow! Worried that the Iowa Palin will win. Worry that I have a lot of laundry to do. Maybe it’s time for coffee.

thunderstorms. Need to get out and start weeding this morning. Pink Cheeks and I have a coffee date later with my niece and great-nephew, whom PC refers to as “my boyfriend.”

Finally got back to writing after a month-long break! Now up to scene 4 in my Litha story, “Out of the Sea.”

As usual, Monty Beagle woke us up far too early. Went out and picked a few strawberries for Miss PC’s breakfast. She’s now working on her letters and has just asked me how to write a lower-case “q.”

We’ve decided to keep her with us until the weekend because poor Mummy, who had a C-section last Friday, finds it very painful to lie down, sit up, and move around. Daddy is telecommuting for the next few weeks to help with the baby.

We visited them after tea yesterday. Mr. Baby woke up, gave us a sleepy, toothless smile, then went back to sleep again. Mummy reports that he’s as different from his big sister as night from day. She woke up every hour, apparently.

Everyone have a good day in Mooseland, and let’s hope the thunderstorms are short-lived and nonviolent.

Sleepy. Must eat breakfast so I can have tea. Though the apple I had was really big.

I just checked my church’s web page and there’s no funeral information yet (the executive director of Annie’s List was killed in a car accident, she went to my church). I’m sure it will be this weekend. I already was going to skip my triathlon Sunday, because I just haven’t been training. I don’t know why, I just haven’t. Anyway, the farewell party for our retiring ministers is Sunday afternoon & I really want to be at that. My friend Susan has been an associate pastor for the past several years & is retiring, though I’m sure she’ll still attend this church (we have the reputation for being the retired pastors church — there are a lot of them)

earworm is once again the poppy version of Just Say Yes, but I need poppy music in my head when I’m this sleepy so that’s ok, even if the acoustic versions are better

am still reading comments in the Reparations forum we hosted – very excellent ones – though very small turnout.  Stayed up late to celebrate hubby’s birthday yesterday – and just announced Rev Barber as keynote speaker at NN over at orange – I am so excited about it.

1st attempt at introducing Grey to Charlie and Cloud unsuccessful.  Sigh.  I let Grey in the room and it started OK – he headed around the outside of the room rather than straight for the other boys and they stayed put until he disappeared behind the couch.  Then Cloud walked over to the end of the couch to see what he was doing.  I followed with the broom.  At first they just looked at each other.  Then Grey started making nasty noises and Cloud started hissing.  Cloud crouched but “stood his ground”, Grey moved slowly towards him with the nasty noises escalating.  My timing was off.  Just as I was about to put the broom between them to “de-escalate”, Grey jumped Cloud.  Using the broom I got them separated and herded Grey back into the other room, shut the door, checked Cloud (just fur flying, no damage) and petted him a bit.  But I’m afraid that having let it escalate to actual fighting I may have blown the slim opportunity to get these guys integrated.  Oh well.  We shall see what we shall see.

JanF – thanks for the link in yesterday’s diary.  I haven’t had a chance to check it out yet but I will.  (I’d really like to get my landline back and figure out something else for my internet but I may not have a choice.) Appreciate your help, as usual.

Yesterday’s round of Dr. visits lead to a long nap and then avoidance set in so my to do list is growing like Jack’s bean stock!

My coumadin level is fluctuating again so I’m back on weekly testing, my pesky toe is healing slow because BCH damaged the circulation in my leg and foot, and my skin has recovered enough to remove some unsightly and suspicion spots…..so now I have unsightly blisters!

Some days just being me feels like a full time job. I’m going to edit that annoying list and find some fun today.
