Friday Coffee Hour: Check In and Hangout for the Herd

Good morning, Moosekind. TGIF!

PLEASE Do Not Recommend the check-in diary!

Recs on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

Friday Coffee Hour and check-in is an open thread and general social hour.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right?

My cat Lydia only chewed me out a little for my absence, which is a miracle itself.

Springy weather here, high near 60. Tomorrow even warmer, then winter makes an uninvited return. If this keeps up we’re on track to have our first month with ‘below average’ temps in like 20 years.

    TGIF. In a big way!

  2. 27 degrees in Madison this morning with an expected high of 55 degrees. Tomorrow the cold weather comes back and the high won’t get above 35 for the next week.

I will try to stop working long enough to get outside and enjoy the 55 degrees. I have to set up my work for the weekend today and it will be a challenge because I had several emergency projects and my to-do list is a mess. So that is priority number one.

Actually, priority number two. First … need moar coffee …

Have a great day, all y’alls!

  3. Here is a link to Charlie Pierce’s blog post (John Lewis Makes Us Happy By Dancing To “Happy”)… chosen because of his comment at the end:

The contest for Greatest Living American is now a 317-million-way tie for second place.

John Lewis: “Nothing can bring me down”

On March 7, 1965 – a day that would become known as “Bloody Sunday” – Lewis and fellow activist Hosea Williams led over 600 marchers across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama. At the end of the bridge, they were met by Alabama State Troopers who ordered them to disperse. When the marchers stopped to pray, the police discharged tear gas and mounted troopers charged the demonstrators, beating them with night sticks. Lewis’ skull was fractured, but he escaped across the bridge, to a church in Selma. Before he could be taken to the hospital, John Lewis appeared before the television cameras calling on President Johnson to intervene in Alabama. On his head, Lewis bears scars that are still visible today.

Sigh. Tired, drinking tea, eating frittata. Since the diary method of fundraising is a bust, I’m going to have to come up with energy to send out e-mail today before I leave at 3 to get my legs squished.

It’s warm, going to be rainy — which will be interesting with the wrappings.

At least it’s Friday. And if I work out with a group tomorrow, it’s at the relatively sane hour of 8 (saner than 7). Though if I work out at all, it’ll likely be by myself & later. And maybe I’ll get vegan summer rolls for dinner. I need something to cheer me up.

and possible sprinkles on our wrinkles today. In a few hours I’m bringing lunch over to a friend’s house. She’s recovering from surgery.

Woke up this morning to find that hubby is more ill than ever, with a temperature of 100.3. Poor man!  He feels awful. Gave him some tea, buttered toast with honey, and some pear sauce. He’s had a ‘flu shot but this just hit out of the blue yesterday.

And I woke up to a bright red itchy face. Have taken a Zyrtec and smeared the ointment across my cheeks. If it’s an allergy, why is it starting already? There’s no grass to speak of and the trees are still mostly asleep, although a few are waking up slowly.

Miss Pink Cheeks herself was under the weather yesterday, so her weekend visit here has been postponed. I’ll spend the weekend writing fiction and nonfiction, the latter in the form of thank-you notes.

Hope everyone will have a good day!

Our grand girls are with us today so the house is already busy. I’ll pass on the pool this morning so my energy will last until we take them to ballet at 4:00 this afternoon.

coming in overnight – and overcast.  Soloing in the office today which makes it hard to get a minute to check in.  The QC meeting last night was a prime example of why I’m not running for re-election.  The renegade Dem with 2 gormless and 1 trouble-making R stopped the Comptroller from closing the books on 2013 until they get “an explanation of why budgets were overdrawn” – except nobody’s budget was overdrawn.  What we needed to approve were the end-of-year line adjustments within the operating budgets (the “bought more toner but did less travel” sorts of things that come up when you close the books).  Which has been explained to the QC every year and until this group decided to be jerks (and I blame the renegade Dem since she’s the ringleader on this), we’ve always approved the line adjustments and closed the books.  OK – nothing I can do about it so I guess I’ll get back to work.  Have a good weekend and {{{HUGS}}} to those in Moosylvania.
