Motley Monday Check-in and Mooselaneous Musings

Good (in a relative way) Morning, Monday!!

 photo Monday2_zps83ab71bd.jpg

PLEASE Don’t Recommend the check-in diary!

Fierces on the weather jar comment are still welcome.

The check-in is an open thread and general social hour. Come back when time allows through the day – the conversation continues.

It’s traditional but not obligatory to give us a weather check where you are and let us know what’s new, interesting, challenging or even routine in your life lately. Nothing is particularly obligatory here except:

Always remember the Moose Golden (Purple?) Rule:

Be kind to each other… or else.

What could be simpler than that, right??

but I tend to be a night owl. 37&deg and falling, currently raining with snow on the way – a predicted 3 to 6″ of the stuff.

Gaffer sez this is what I should be doing right now…

    Gaffer sleeping 3 reduced

  2. -4 in Madison right now with an expected high of 21 degrees. Pretty much normal daytime highs for this time of year. Hey! It’s winter!!

Well, we made it to February. There is no denying that January is done (and I know no one name “FebF” so there is also that bit of sadness). It was a long difficult month and one whose bills have not yet come due, in many ways. Those of us who live in the northern climates are holding our collective breaths waiting for the January heating bills to arrive in the mail.

Scanning the news sites that I open each morning, the opinion headlines seem a bit less sure about The End of the Obama Presidency and The Demise of Obamacare. I wonder if they are finally waking up to the fact that the voices they are hearing in agreement with their opinions are actually their own voices echoing back. In the meantime, out in the real world, there is income equality and there are people who the “recovery” has left behind and who desperately need jobs … and now food and shelter as the unemployment checks have been stopped for a month and the last bit of savings is gone. I am not sure what happened to the empathy gene in certain people who appear to be of the human species. For example, “We don’t need safety nets because I am just fine as a multi-millionaire who never had to worry about where my next meal would come from.” … another member of the lucky-sperm club:

“Why do you support the GOP?” [Fox News host Mike] Wallace wondered.

“Well, it goes to what my beliefs are,” [Denver Broncos executive John} Elway explained. “I believe that we’re giving the opportunity to succeed or not succeed.”

“I don’t believe in safety nets,” he continued.

Safety nets are what caring humans provide for people who are struggling to succeed, many who can’t succeed because they have not been given the opportunity that white males have as their birthright.

a bit of snow on the weather map.  Getting my self in gear to head off to school.

First class is cultural anthro – so think I will play the Coca Cola super bowl commercial to the students and get their responses, since a twitterstorm of hate and xenophobia has erupted about it.

Coca-Cola’s “It’s Beautiful” Super Bowl Ad Brings Out Some Ugly Americans

Amazing how many people are angry that “they” are singing our “national anthem” in languages other than English.

Morans are clearly not aware that our anthem is the Star Spangled Banner – but let’s not let facts get in the way.

It’s raining, 36° and likely to be rainy cold bit of sleety bit of snowy icky all day.

And yet, I think the Seniors in Action will show up for my cardmaking workshop anyway. A stalwart group, we are.

Let’s see – it was lovely & warm Saturday, cold all day yesterday, merely chilly this morning & will be almost warm this afternoon, but by Thursday, it’ll be back to really, really cold — oh, and there might be precipitation with that. We have years where we skip winter entirely. It has been years since we’ve had even 1 snow day. And then there’s this year.

Diary got very little notice, I’m bummed. I love the song though. I’m drinking tea & eating breakfast. I didn’t pack my gym bag yesterday, didn’t think about it this morning. Maybe I’ll walk after I water my plants this evening.

headed out for the paper. When I went to check for news online the first stories were about the Super Bowl, I didn’t see it; I went to a viola da gamba concert instead. Sigh, guess my patriotism is on the line, Hope it’s a good day for all with lots of healing for those ailing.

The sky is the classic PNW pinky blue, my windows have a wintery ring of frost, and a light breeze is moving the lichen covered branches on my old maple trees. A nice morning scene.

We had fun watching the Super Bowl, Yay Seahawks! I don’t usually watch the whole thing but following along on twitter was most entertaining.

And Ron surprised me…..when I woke up from a nap he had started dinner 🙂

about the coke commercial- I have a woman in the class who was in the Navy 20 years ago – and she said loud and clear – “I served to protect this country and everyone in it and people are all different colors and cultures and speak a lot of different languages”.

She shook her head and said “This is 2014…unbelievable that people would object to a pretty commercial like that one”

here in Northern Virginia. No snow yet and we’re probably not going to get any. We usually don’t get it when they forecast it and do get it when they don’t. The weather peeps did note on morning TV that if the rain were snow, we’d have two feet on the ground.

After I took Miss Pink Cheeks to day care, returned home to begin another busy day. Writing a letter and sending a V-day card to my brother-in-law in Ireland. His son, daughter-in-law, and grandson live round the corner from me, so I’m enclosing photos in the letter. Took them on Saturday when Miss PC and I went over there for a birthday tea. Also need to work on income taxes, make Crockpot Chicken Soup for tonight, and get more stories ready to send the desktop publisher. It’s a good day to stay in rather than go to the gym, even though I can feel myself gaining weight with every breath I take.

Let me add to Portlaw’s wish that the ailing recover nicely and for everyone to have a good day!

I’m back to feeling social again.

It’s snowing big flakes that look like feathers. Hope we don’t have much accumulation.

    Everyone stay safe and warm.
